I've been on both a "Kanban" team that just set up status swimlanes and got going on the work, and a Kanban team coached by a professional that helped us understand the actual Kanban model, with WIP limits and techniques like mobbing (or is it called swarming?) to push "stuck" items forward. The feeling of teamwork was night and day.
