I am learning so much from you! Although I’m in a different phase of life-my kids are all grown and I didn’t homeschool them. But I’m the kind of person who needs routine and consistency. A situation like the one you’re currently in would completely throw me for a loop. But you manage to see it as a blessing and an opportunity. You are amazing, and I want to be more like you!

When i was unschooling years ago, we did themes. The kids chose a topic, and everything revoled around it for a week or so. Food, colors, shapes, environment, community, books, people, histoy, present time and the connection to history, habitat if the is one. Crafts, exploration. The sky is the limit. When kids love learning because it's fun. ❤❤❤ Love what you share about homeschooling unschooling.

Neisha , Momma bear Thanks for sharing another video ❤..Our daughter has always been homeschooled and loves it . Our school systems are kinda messed up around in the beliefs department. If our daughter wants to read the Bible and Pray she can and there is no one here to tell her she can't. My Great nephew actually got into trouble at school one day cause he pulled his bible out at break time one day to read it and then he was praying before he started to eat his lunch and the staff told him that was not aloud and sent him to the office . (He's now being homeschooled as well aling with his siblings by my Niece and Nephew.) It's getting ridiculous when you can't even pray if you want . Our kids get to do so much more hands on stuff by being homeschooled then they would get in public school and the one on one time is amazing, you can focus on what they actually need to improve on , they are not being rushed and can learn at there own speed. And the field trips are a plus also, we can take them as offen as we want for a great learning experience, the museum is a wonderful place. One of our next field trips will be to the Ark hopefully soon..there is lots of amazing learning that goes on there .And Your doing a Amazing job momma bear 🐻 . Your one amazing go-getter of a mom 😊..Your kids are so blessed and very smart . And we also love reading books as well . Thrifting is a big thing around here, We find so many books , And we love the library as well . Thanks for sharing and there is lots of great educational videos on youtube as well if someone wants to explore them ❤. PRAYERS FOR YOU ALL 🙏

Your kids are lucky to learn the way they do. I was a teacher and now I homeschool. I do buy textbooks from thrifty books. I use them as a reference for what they need to learn, sort of an outline. Then I find videos, movies, crafts, and hands-on activities that they can use to learn the same material. I love field trips, libraries and museums.

Another comment: Do any of your children like acting out what they're learning? Some of them could write a short historical play; others could dress up and act it out. If they get into it, they could draw/paint a backdrop on paper or cardboard (opened boxes).

One way you could get in some science is to bring the children to the Museum of Medical History and Innovation.
“The museum has three levels of displays, artifacts and photographs.
Visit our main gallery, Putnam Gallery and the beautiful rooftop garden.”
Note: I don’t quite understand the hours open during what months so you may want to verify it before you go.
“The museum is open Tuesdays through Fridays 10 am to 2 pm year-round and Saturdays 11 am to 4 pm April through October. It's free and open to the public.”

You are so right that learning can take place anywhere in so many different forms. I was thinking of you as I took my grandaughters to a heritage Museum today that is like a small village. They must have spent an hour facinated by a black smith who took them through every step of turning a straight rod into a heart and then gave it to them. They will remember it for so long as they could ask questions and he was so patient explaining it to them. You do an amazing job and I am sure your children are learning very well, things they will remember for years.

My focus in our homeschool is to learn how to find information. Learn how to figure things out. We currently are doing long division in math. I showed her the process of how to do it on paper and she practiced a few but now I’m teaching her how to use the calculator to find these answers. No adult is taking out paper and pencil to do long division if the need arises but she will need to know how to analyze the information and use a calculator to find the answer.

Supposedly we learn a lot of physical science (ie physics) and the theorems of trigonometry through natural play during our pre-K years. I say "supposedly". You might see if your older kids can teach your younger kids, or hands on explore with your younger kids, Actual little lesson plans.
For example, you can learn shapes gut also go through the rules/ definitions of those shapes. Ie triangle has three sides, 3 points, amd three angles while fe.ling amd touching a triangular shape. You can go on to explore all sorts of trig type things from there.
For example, when at/oin a seee saw you can go on to identify it as a fulcrum, the point, what different weights do, what leverage is all about, a d in and in. Of course, flipping a pea across the room off a spoon is much the same but ...
For the older kids, teaching something learned is considered a different level of learning. BUT organizing a lesson plan is a whole different skill set of multiple skills which is actually useful when wearing different hats through life.

Bostonnis known for some great music (more classical type) both vocal and instrumental. This is also the season of Cnristmas in which a lot of churches do great music. Where there is great music, schools with great music, and troops there are also practices, auditions, and recitals which sometimes you can get into for free. Typically the "free" is a rather dress- down affair in the form of a practice, an audtion, or a senior performance for proffs.

What kind of thing do you use for maths? Or is that something you include within the other work they’re doing? I know some homeschool families use online curriculum and others print off or books?
ETA at my daughter’s school here there’s a big push on reading this year(she’s in a secondary school). So for lunch they have 30 minutes free time to eat, relax etc and 30 minutes tutor time or 2 out of 5 days they have year assembly. The other 3 out of 5 days is purely for quiet reading of any book (within reason) of their choice. She also reads each night before sleep so gets through quite a few books. I know next week from Monday she’s going to be reading a book about Chernobyl that she’s asked me to get for her so I know she’s not just reading fiction. X

I hear you on schools! And if there is no better reason to homeschool, just look what happened during the shutdown - after 4 years, they are STILL BLAMING it for why kids aren't learning. No - we have known kids were likely to "remote learn" for over 60-70 years, just watch some of the old tv programs - and they NEVER made adjustments for that. I am wondering though, if since you have been in Boston for so long, if you need to follow their guidelines for Homeschooling, or if you can continue to use those of Maine??

What are you doing about their math, their English skills? Their spelling and vocabulary? Science? I began homeschooling in the '80s when homeschooling began so homeschooling is familiar to me. Have they been tested? You can only stretch yourself so thin. It would truly be a shame if they missed important skills they needed. Mine wasn't perfect either, but I was always aware where my kids were academically.

You are so amazing. I just can’t imagine going through as much as you have and are able to make sure everyone is safe and happy and healthy and still be staying at the hospital and not getting much sleep. God bless you and your family . I am a avid reader. Love, hugs and prayers to your whole family.

I’m just trying definitely not perfect. Hoping the Lord will forgive and guide me when I fail.
