Hey there Driver. Thanks for dropping by to watch today's video. What are your feelings about this program where immigrant drivers are given the absolute minimum training and then they hit the road? Love to hear your thoughts.

What's going on right now? Looks like there are too many drivers looking for work. Is this because of the Union stuff, Yellow going under, or just a slow economy? If I take a job now, I will have to take about a 10 cent/mile dip and I don't want to take a short term job. Do you have any feeling about how things will go in the near future?
Another thing I am seeing that I have never seen before: all the solo positions at 60 cents plus are 1099 and want me to pay for my own insurance. What is going on?

There should be zero immigrant drivers. They drive down wages, increase accidents, and don't respect or know the laws because of insufficient training. These mega companies have zero care about public safety.

Not to mention proficiency with the English language. This seems to be overlooked quite a bit. Not long ago I witnessed a semi blocking the BNSF double track mainline while waiting for a red light at US 10. The light changed, the truck rolled. A train came through less than two minutes later. A nearby Minnesota trooper completely ignored that situation.

A Megacarrier (I won't name) had me licensed in two weeks and driving Team at night. I had no idea the bad situation really was. Apparently the truck wasn't a big as I felt it was. I was lucky. then Started with another Carrier (JRayl Good Company) and he asked me how tall the trailer was and I thought it was 15feet. he Joked " Well, Hell, If think that then you'll never hit a bridge." I got real training from them from 5 different veteran drivers.

Makes sense. The corporations have bought the governments (people underestimate how much $100 billion really is) and that's why the government allows it.
When undocumented immigrants get busted working jobs in the US, they get deported but the business that hires them almost never faces consequences despite it being their job to check the employees background. When a corporation gets caught hiring undocumented immigrants or having dangerous working conditions, they just blame a supervisor low on the ladder. The companies need held accountable

As a former OTR driver trainer, driving instructor and skid pad instructor, I can attest to the fact that the majority of driving schools here in Canada are nothing more than puppy mills.
The good drivers on the road were either already proficient through farming, the military or were blessed to have an instructor that didn’t just train to pass the 10 - 15 mile practical road test. I personally had excellent instructors. I passed their sound knowledge onto my candidates. They were trained to succeed, stay alive, and make a few bucks, to ensure they returned home safe to their families. Moreover, they were taught that trucking isn’t just another “job” - it was a lifestyle.

Your correct on everything you state, including the ATA. I think it is imperative to get the word out on the incestuous relationship between the ATA and the carriers they represent, including the "office mining" that has been going on with the FMSCA. ATA doed not get what the carriers want suddenly there is an administrative vacancy and another transplant to fill that office. We need real drivers in those jobs not "word smothers".

I've had a few close calls with inexperienced drivers. Today for example, WY hwy 18 between lusk and Douglas, guy trying to pass me on a hill with no line of sight to see the 4 wheeler coming up the other side. Luckily he wasn't far enough into it and was able to tuck back in behind me. I've been in the game for 18 years and still learning. Best advice I can give with my limited experience is always make double sure you can execute the maneuver safely before attempting anything

It is irresponsible to allow any driver who has not had adequate testing for proficiency to drive a truck and trailer. A lot of it too, was when I drove, the hourly rate for a dump truck was inadequate and the new driver’s skimped on maintenance and this definitely caused some serious accidents. I remember on one job a guy pulling a pony trailer, and when he arrived at his destination he was coming to a stop slowly, and the tie rod dropped to the pavement. Just imagine if the truck was going at a higher speed.

It's not only truck drivers that are a mortal menace on Canadian roads. You see this homicidal lunacy from virtually every driver here (and by "Canada" I mean the Greater Toronto Area of Ontario, for I've never travelled out of the province yet).
I always feel privileged to have earned my licence (and it was only the equivalent of a "G", to be clear) in the UK, where I can honestly say the driving standards are incomparably higher than here, whatever other issues they have there. What I see here may be summed up in 3 words: aggression, impatience, recklessness. For example, no one ever looks over their shoulder (or indeed, at the mirror) before changing lanes here, which scares the living daylights out of me. I also notice that discourteousness if the norm, so much so that on many occasions, people have looked puzzled when I stopped to let someone in (and I mean those I stopped for). Plus, people don't seem to have any use for their brakes: all they do is hoot angrily and accelerate really hard, whatever the situation.
No, I'm no shrinking violet on the roads. You're reading from someone who used to enjoy competing with powerful Porches and Audis on the German autobahns (which you can't do in Britain thanks to over-restrictive rules). But in Canada, I only drive if absolutely necessary, for fear of killing someone - or being killed.

They drive because theyre willing to work for these pennies per mile some of these carriers offer. Then send the money back to their home countries. But to play devils advocate, I havent seen any immigrant drivers leaving piss jugs around or having messy pig-sty rigs in the 9 yrs ive been rolling out here. 🤷‍♂️

You’re right the school don’t prepare the immigrants or either the Americans. So I think is pointless to blame the drivers.
You can’t take your cdl and go do OTR with no experience
