Hey there driver. Thanks for stopping by to check out todays video. I hat have your experiences been? You been scammed by a company? Love to hear your experience.
Changed to smooth bore tanker, enjoying it, decent miles, decent pay
I am a licensed truck driver 18yrs exp. Don't plan on driving again. If you look around hard enough there are thousands of us. Driver's know there is no shortage of us, just shortage of great jobs.
Truckers not being paid hourly with overtime is clearly the biggest scam. If OTR drivers were paid both, they would easily clear 100k yearly
I’ve been trucking 41 years now. EVERYTHING this guy says is true. I’m hourly now and get home home nightly and make decent money. I’m glad I’ll be retiring next year.
The last several years I started refusing to sit for free and I pissed off a few companies. I refused to listen to them tell me about somebody that called in on me and other nonsense. l’d just get up and walk out of the office. When I had a problem and the dispatcher would ignore me I’d just park the truck and sit there till the next day. I didn’t care if I got fired.
Before YOU do that make sure you have a good savings account and a perfect driving record so you can go somewhere else. Many of those companies were 50 trucks or less and they later went broke . Don’t put up with the disrespect and don’t ever get so far in debt that you can’t tell your company to kiss your donkey. Do your job well and earn your respect and make them respect you too.👍
🎯 I have the same mindset as you with companies. I keep my license clean for that exact reason. I don't take any of their crap.
Another scam I’ve experienced is paying the miles from one zip code to another zip code and not the real running miles. I’ve seen differences of more than 30 miles per trip that you run for free every day with that method.
The biggest scam is the prices charged at truck stops ( fuel not included) food of any kind is double compared to other store's..
Lease purchase programs should be outlawed completely in all 50 states and Canada.
I first drove over the road in 1971, the trucking industry was crooked then and nothing has changed.
Was so crushed to see CH Robinson had to layoff 1200 parasites, I mean workers
I'm so glad I'm local. I get paid for everything including wait time, from the second I start waiting.
I watch a lot of trucking videos. The one thing that always stands out to me is the lack of respect afforded to the driver.Almost all of the customers receiving the loads treat the driver like shit. Mike the Greek
There is times where the lumpers make 500 to unload it and company drivers make less to haul it
Everything in our whole life is a scam..we just chose to allow it to happen
Our industry would be better off if we all joined forces and boycotted the entire industry.
I wouldn’t say it’s evil I would say it is absolutely satanic.
I quit after 4 months…working 70 hours a week ….no personal life when you work 14 hours a day and 1 day off…n when you divide the money its way below minimum wage
All of these scams that you mentioned are quite true. I had to deal with lumpers quite a bit at the grocery warehouses. Fortunately, the company that I was leased to always paid the lumper fees. The independent guys, however, were constantly being reamed. Scam-O-Rama! I’ve been fortunate enough with the carriers that I’ve been leased to over the years to avoid these scams, but I have definitely heard the horror stories from other drivers. There’s a special place in hell for these deceptive people.
Yes, trucking can be dirty for sure at times.
Truckstops get my vote for biggest scams, especially their rewards or loyalty programs.
This is like listening to a rundown of my nightmares. Dear God, I'm happy I got out of that rat race when I did!
Don’t forget the “damaged product” scam! Deluka Bros. Winnipeg got me for about 2K on a load of wine grapes circa 1985! A few (less than 5) crates had started to collapse…..”Two damaged pallets”! Nothing wrong with the grapes!!! Don’t they squash ‘em anyway to make wine?
The last lumper I had was $600. I was like god damn!!! give me a forklift, or even a pallet jack, I will be more than happy to unload this truck for even half that!
Smart trucking should be a text book for truckers, especially for newcomers
Here in the UK the hauliers have started boycotting companies that systematically force drivers to unload the goods.
This was pushed by the drivers themselves within certain companies as a collective.
Your opening statements are the absolute hard truth. I’m ready to form this trucker union when you’re ready. I’ve been in the industry for 20years it’s time.
These are the exact reasons I stopped trucking. Got so used to getting shit on, I wouldn't notice when I'd gotten any on my finger.
Amen brother. You're the only one that has the balls to say the truth. I love your videos and thank you for standing up for the drivers that keep America moving!!
Trucking industry is getting out of hand and everything you said is true very true.
Very good video all of these scams happen to us because we won’t stand together we’re all to busy fighting and trying to undercut each other for a nickel a mile the person paying the freight bill loves it they’re getting things moved for as cheap as possible and the government is never going to step in they live us all fighting with each other so we can’t band together and get the problems in the trucking industry fixed
Went local as a gas hauler and never looked back. I don't know how ANYONE drives OTR. Just a giant crap sandwich between weeks away, little home time, customers, and parking.
My fav is when you deliver to WalMart letssay after delivery you are told to leave it right away. HOS? Not our problem
BRAVO BRAVO BRAVO!!! This deserves a standing ovation from every driver in America. You sir should be the voice for OOIDA. The VOICE of every driver out here that gets screwed by mega carriers and receivers. I would give this video more then one thumbs up if I could. Keep up the good work you and your wife do making these videos.
You nailed them all👏🏽👏🏽
You should touch on what's happening these days referred to as double brokering
Smart trucking has been and still is a shining light in this industry and way of life we call trucking.
Thank you for your experience, intelligence and most of all your frankness when you share it with others.
43 years experience driving with years of experience under a truck before that and I'm still learning.
Drivers listen to this man and Lord willing you'll come out on top.
God bless. R. G. Patton Sr.
They should at least pay minimum wage hourly on top of mileage and stop pay
What about the companies that get kick backs for saying you need a CPAP and you don't have underlying conditions? ...will the DOJ investigate?
30 year vet here...clean CDL..going to the yard...why...too many accidents....its Nascar out here..companies refusing to pay u right...companies not doing maintenance...it was fun..drive safe
A scam I've seen for Company Drivers is charging a monthly pet fee for "insurance" with your fur buddy on board. I understand paying for damages to Company trucks but it's just skimming off the drivers.
this video was, by far, the most valuable contribution you have made, thank you. Please keep this up.
I don't do favors anymore and I'm looking to get out soon
Had a broker try to take over half the pay from me and tell me it was a partial. If I had known where he was I would have gone there and killed the pig. Wasted a whole day because I had to drop it off after I saw how much the business I was loading at was putting in. Had a broker double book a load on me recently as well and waste 5 hours of my time. I get there and some other driver has my fucking load. It's hard to stay mentally together out here sometimes. Broke my hand a couple weeks ago punching the dash stupidly because I just broke.
What goes around comes around...
We had a driver over here pull out the engine out of one of the company trucks and sold it... A big ol Cummins engine gone... Sold on the black market....
Damn this guy nailed it... I'm about to toss the towel. This is BS
I've been to 3 grocery chain's where I had to pay a lumper fees when I was driving for Western Express, & I told my DM don't send to those places again, so beware of FOOD LION, PUBLIX, & a couple other grocery chains that do the stupid lumper thing
You made a real good point about lumpers. It's THEIR stuff. Why would we pay THEM to unload THEIR freight? We get paid to get the freight to them, not to unload it.
You are spot on Dave !
The trucking companies try to hide behind FMCSA safety regs HOURS OF SERVICE
to try and avoid paying drivers the Dept Of Labor Minimum Wage
Truck drivers ARE NOT EXEMPT FROM MINIMUM WAGE !
THE FMCSA EXEMPTION FOR TRUCK DRIVERS ARE ONLY EXEMPT FROM DRAWING OVERTIME PAY AFTER 40 HOURS
Drivers should be paid hourly for all responsibilities assigned to them by their employer
Bonuses , Detention time pay , lLay over pay , Break down pay is almost never paid to the driver because it is descretionary by management
Management can simply say
Not approved
You got this 100% on POINT with the exception of adding the DEF and getting paid Zip code to zip code mileage instead of what you actually drove. I’m sitting here making a delivery in San Antonio Tx to the Circle K DC and they are charging $2224.00 for their Lumper fee 😮. It seem everyone is cashing in on the price gouging in the trucking industry except the truckers
I got a good chuckle soon as you said Lumpers 🤣, I recommend GP Transco as well even though I don't work for them anymore, was not a good fit bcuz of my medical needs. The company I currently work for Legends Transportation is a much better fit closer to home and easier to make my doctors appointments 🙃. I'm currently on medical leave bcuz of dizziness issues and instead of having to go on COBRA they are continuing to pay their share of medical insurance just as if I was on road, they also offered private disability insurance so I have that going and just have to pay my weekly contribution less than a 💯 💶, that right there is worth real money hundreds 💯 of dollars per month 😀:)
I had to pay a lumper fee on Arizona. Wanted me to unload it and break it down and sort it on different pallets. I paid the $70 and went to the next stop. Id rather lose $70 then lose the whole $1400 doing minimum wage work. That's what you hire capstone personnel for.
You guys need to get organized. No matter what you think about the teamsters they would not have allowed this to happen. It's all worker harassment nothing less.
I drove for Warner ent. Got tired of dispatch and people in general. I will never drive or deliver products for these ungrateful people in this country ever again.
I am a Dispatcher. What are some things a good dispatcher should be doing to protect the interests of our drivers in these situations? What's the fastest way to spot double-brokering?
Just respect ✊ for this guy, I been driving for 15 years and thinking off Quitting love trucking but everyone is ripping us $$$ wise. Younger generation open your eyes and be smarter!
Thank you for making this video. I been driving 25yrs now I got to sale my truck. Because I'm being black ball from other companies I've have work for in the past 1000% put me out of business this year wow. Salute to all drivers and stay safe. Blessed 🙌.
The whole paid by the mile , dead heading ( driving for free to pick up a load ) , not getting paid for reset , not getting paid for waiting to get loaded & unloaded are all union busting tactics
This man speaks the truth.
The scam haulers make it hard for the good legit carriers to compete
Over 21 years now retired, lots of good complaints but will never be fixed as truckers are not organized
I remember Midwestern Trucking. Buy a truck for a buck this was in the late 70s early '80s. My understanding is those people went on to create Prime Trucking.
Thank you for shining light on the scams. I'd love to know how to clean this mess up. I'd also love to see people stand together against unethical treatment.
One of the scams that you missed is the 150$ “truck order not used”, and you have to start your hours , and drive all the way to you pickup location.
The only reason why the lease programs are still happening, is because there is a market for them. Drivers aren't doing the math themselves, and asking the tough questions, before they get into these deals.
Wait time and down time are the biggest scams in my opinion, don’t ever work for a company that isn’t straight forward with wait time.
I have a little tip for you flatbed drivers. Have you ever had to throw your straps in a mud filled pot hole lot. When you toss your straps you throw them over n there a plop or a splash. Fold your straps in half during the winter. Keeps your hands warm n dry and it's half the rolling time.
A TRUE TRUCKER - Sharing The Truth!
... THX FOR SHARING ...
THANK YOU FOR THIS VIDEO!! IT IS HIGHLY APPRECIATED!
They call it Straight miles basically they calculate the distance in miles from one Place directly to the other but not the miles traveled on the road to get there smh they used to kill me with that scam …. You load dispatch says 250 miles but the gps says 320 mi 😖😖😖
I really appreciate you bring all this on the table.
Love the info. I always learn something in your video. Keep up the great work
New sub and driver for 2yrs. Love the content!
Thank you for your time and devotion. Very well put.
Extremely valuable information. Thanks, Big Guy!!! 👍🏾
And thank you for always giving great advice for us
Wow buddy you hit the nail on the head with everything your saying… great video keep making them
Excellent Video Sir.
Very Informative!
Brother this video has hit the nail smack dab on the head. Beautifully said video.
great video, keep em coming, how about a video of some of the good sides of trucking.
Thank you for your video. I have been a professional o/o truck driver for 20 years or so. I've see and heard stories as your video is telling. The driver is the bottom of this bad list of facts, and that makes the driver the victim of all of that. The government who closes an eye on such scams is the one to be accountable for all this corruption. By doing so, the government is complice of all these legal robbers. It is a sad reality. What can we do???
Great informative video...again! So glad I left OTR trucking and the corruption evident at nearly every turn. No more issues with over weight loads and being placed out-of-service and the big fines that come with selective enforcement. Dealing with careless refugee and poorly-trained amateurs running into my cab at crowded truck stops I don't miss either. Keep telling the truth!
This video is 💯 percent ACCURATE........ NO LIES TOLD.
Great video and so true!👍👍
Everything you talked about in this video is correct, but it still falls on deaf ears with most of these todays drivers. We appreciate your information. Thanks.
Hello, I am luckenson. I can say you are speaking to truth, I am a truck driver 1 year experience unfortunately these people rob me a lot.
Great video and so true!!!!!!
Yeah ! Good segment! Should always run farthest miles!
Preach on brother!
Thanks Bud
Liked the video. Your info is spot on. However, what can be done to change these problems!!!!????
Absolutely agree with all five and there is couple more, like millage stolen etc......hope so someday will luck turn on driver side, huge and strong syndicate is what need truckers......and you for leader !
SUBSCRIBED! EXCELLENT!
Price of diesel and cut throat freight rates killed off a lot of owner operator drivers here in Aus, with a lot of companies now struggling to find drivers or any type, so they rely on international drivers with zero experience or practical knowledge and can barely make it from depot to depot. Lumping isn’t a thing as they wouldn’t even know what the business end of a forklift looks like.
Fudging the books for driving hours and overloaded trailers happens all the time ‘just this once’
The never ever lease plan
Ok this is going to make me take a look at my miles and make sure they’re adding up to the correct distance. I did the lease purchase program and it’s a total pimpers paradise.
I'm new in trucking and this is all true of what I was thinking. Expecelly the lumper pay. I was thinking, "isn't this their stuff they're unloading? Don't make sense."
You, sir, should be running FMCSA!
Great informational video as usual!!
I'll see ya on the back-haul!
Deal!
Ima Starr using "utter nonsense" over "total bullsh*t." Come of so wholesome. All these are facts, appreciate you pointing it out! First time I ran into a lumper was mind blowing. Still is. 400$ + to drop off your freight??? Just dumb
Good stuff!
Thank you for saying what needs to be said. I ran US 48 and regional NE. In game 10 years mostly mom pops but your right. 💯 NC now fingers crossed 🤞 might get my own but pop says don't. 3rd generation. Mostly a Pete and Mack driver. Leaned to shift standing between the seats 80's Superliner and international 9000 444 13 with milk on back. Great times.
100% you absolutely right!👍
😅🤣😂 @ don't get discouraged. I'm about to get my CLP and then enter a trucking school program trying to get off Disability. I haven't read one positive comment on this video. With zero experience behind the wheel, I'll be forced to take whatever rip-off scam im offered. Especially living in Redding Ca. I'm studying for every endorsement, so I have some options. This is definitely my favorite Trucking channel. Thanks for the knowledge and the heads-up.
Exactly why after working on and off for 4 years driving and evaluating the trucking industry, I quit and went back to the office... 37 hour weeks, all holidays paid and off, normal 9 to 5, weekends off, sleep @ home every night, .. Worst Company I worked for here in the USA was Day & Ross out of York PA..
