I’ve always done day 26 and 27 with no issues except once I had a doe give birth on day 25 on the wire floor and she made a nest but she was so early and a first time mom we could have never suspected it. She had 6 and we got 4 to adulthood. Great momma
You mentioned wanting a good soft hay, living Japan I've found that Hokaido 3rd cutting is really soft and curly, almost like moss is. I don't know if you could find it over there, but I think it could be a great option for nesting boxes. Also, good job Camilla!!!
I made a really big nest box, with a lot of paper on the bottom and warm plastic on the outside! Then we put a lot of wood in small peaces, she's due in to week!
Hi thank you so much for making this video, it helped me out a lot. My Holland Lop doe is going to have her first kit on May 11 and I was freaking out on what to do for her. If you have any other tips for me that would help out a lot too. Thanks again and have a beautiful day :)
i found it unusual for one of my does to make a nest, and pull fur, 2 days after she was bred. she was a first time mom and took wonderful care of her babies, and she ended up fostering another litter after her litter was 2 weeks. i placed her 2 week babies with another mom(first time mom's mother) with 2 week babies.
Story Time: My friend had a goat that had a litter of four kids (which is a lot!) Anyway when she was in labor, she pushed about three times, and one baby came out, then she pushed once per baby after that. (How weird is that?! One push per baby!) By the way, this was very helpful!
I’m not sure if you done one before but I’ve looked everywhere and can’t seem to find a good video/series on breeding Holland’s. I’ve been interested in possibly breeding lops and see how successful your Rabbitry is and I would love to learn more. I was wondering if you would be interested in doing some sort of series on the full process of breeding for beginner breeders alike?! p.s. I love your vids!!🐰🐰
Hello! I have a question: my breeder sold me a rabbit a while ago that she said was a male, but long story short she did not check the sex before selling me the rabbit which she confessed, and we discovered that the buck is actually a doe. She's been living for the past 2 months with my other bunny, who is a male, because I had no clue she was a female otherwise I would've separated them. They're now inseparable, cuddled up all the time, and they do hump every so often. The buck is a few days over 4 months old, and the doe is almost 4 months old. Can she be pregnant? I have no way of knowing. Also, if she's pregnant how do you care for the newborns? Or do you just leave it all up to the doe? I'm extremely disappointed in the breeder for making such a careless mistake like that, and not offering much advice. Thanks!!!
It's possible but not very probable that she's pregnant that young. If your buck's testicles haven't dropped (aren't visible), then she wouldn't likely be pregnant. I would definitely separate them immediately and get the buck neutered as soon as your vet says the surgery can be performed (likely around 5 months). If the doe did have babies, they may not survive, and she could have difficulty kindling them because she's so small/young. If they are born live, she should care for them. You just have to make sure they stay warm.
Awww....loved watching Camilla build her nest box. I have been following your rabbitry for a while now, and I always get so excited when I hear one of your does is pregnant (you should have seen me with Hazel's past litter- I was checking every few hours to see if she has kindled, and constantly talking about her 😂)! Anyway, since I have been following your rabbitry, I remembered that Camilla was Cora's mom. Is that baby Cora, or was she from a different litter? Sorry for the long comment! 😀
Appreciate your support and enthusiasm! :) You are correct, that is the litter Cora was a part of; I actually had forgotten that I had videos of baby Cora. Here is another: ruclips.net/video/NNRN4Qmuww4/видео.html.
My rabbit made her nest in her litter box. Is it safe to move the contents of the nest to a different box or should I leave it alone and give her a new litter box?
I just got another rex! She is (9) weeks old and i hold her all the time. Is this ok. I did not bond with my other rabbit bc i never held him. What is a good amount of time to hold a rabbit?
Hook's Hollands - Ohio Holland Lops why doesn’t my mini lop like to held? He doesn’t scratch or bite me when I try, but he just doesn’t let me hold him at all.
I always think nesting boxes are too small so I use a wooden rabbit house and my mini Rex took to it really well she’s about 11 days in to her second pregnancy and digging and starting to nest already
I'm thinking about starting to breed rabbits and I was wondering if it's worth it to get a single doe. (I have three bucks and one is neutered). Will one doe produce its money worth or will the bunnies not be enough money to cover the overall expenses?
First, it's important to consider that you probably won't make much or any money selling the babies. With the amount spent on the care of the parents and babies and your time, it is very difficult to make a profit. If you have prospective homes for the babies and enjoy what you do, then it might be worthwhile to try. Whether your doe kindles successfully and how many babies she might have is extremely variable and unpredictable. I stop breeding does around age 3/4 when their litters are fewer in between or just single babies. Bucks can often breed for 5, 6, 7+ years.
For does, usually 6-8 months of age is good. If she's really small, waiting until 8-9 months is usually best. I never recommend breeding a doe over 12 months old for the first time, as it could be fatal to her. Their skeletal system needs flexibility to accommodate birthing kits, and after twelve months, their frame is less fluid. Bucks can usually start breeding about 5.5 months old (when their testicles have dropped).
Hey I have a question. How do you remove the knots of your fluffy Hollands? I have one and she had huge knots with poop mixed in on her butt and between her legs, and I just CAN NOT remove them. She really smells and it's just awful because I can't remove them. She won't sit still and just goes everywhere. Do you have any advice, I really need it. If so, thanks in advance.
If the nest is soiled, I do clean it by removing the bottom soiled layer and replacing it, but it doesn't always need cleaned. Just make sure to keep as much of the fur as possible, as the babies need it to stay warm and will want to leave if it doesn't still smell like their old nest area.
There's not much to do other than check them daily to make sure they have fat tummies and are warm. You can hold them to the mother for extra nursing if needed, but that usually is tough to do.
when we found out our rabbit was pregnant, we separated the male and female, we moved the female back into her hutch which has a little box room at the top. would this be ok to use as a nest box instead of buying another one?
The babies just need a small space to keep them contained and warm. As long as your space does that, I would think it's fine. Just be careful that the babies can't fall down to the first floor. :)
My bunny is due the 20th of December and I am giving her a box with some hay and bedding but I feel like the box is too big. What do I do? She’s a first time mom and this was an accident
I never recommend pine shavings if the bunny comes in contact with them. The oils can irritate them. Aspen shavings and/or shredded cardboard (Carefresh Naturals) and hay is a better option.
What do i do if a doe that is a couple years old is pregnant for the first time? Is there anything that could make it easier for her. Im scared we might lose her.
If she's a dwarf breed, it could be really rough for her. I'm not sure there's anything you can do other than maybe some Tums and kale a few days prior to her due date to help with labor.
@@HooksHollands I have a regulat lop and I was watching over my friends mini lop. I never saw anything happen between especially since mine outgrew her mini. But she ended up have a single baby the other day. She kind of just bunches up thd blanket and bedding fluff I gave her all in the middle of her cage.
Your videos are so well made and entertaining and informative. Anyone watching can see you put a lot of thought into them
I appreciate that; thanks!

Since this channel's main focus is information for pet owners, I am not sure a video about breeding rabbits would be welcomed by the majority.
I understand your point. thanks for responding!
that hay Thing, it reminds me Of my Rabbit when It Used to Sling hay All over The place.....

Usually, the more you hold them, the better. Take cues from her. If she feels hot or struggles after being held a while, give her a break.
Will do and thank you:-)

That seller doesn't appear to be offering nest boxes any longer. :(

If you are unable to keep up with them frequently, you might have to cut them out gently and give her a bottom bath. Have someone help you hold her.
Tundra Ponies my jersey wooly gets knots between her ears and i use nail clippers to cut them. just be careful not to cut the rabbit
Was that Cora as a baby?
Do you have the clean the nest after a few days after the baby’s are born or do u not have to clean it at all?

OH MY GAWD!! IT’S A WITTLE BABEEEEEE!!!!!
hi. my doe is on day 31 and hasnt started nesting or pulling fur. what should i do?
It could very well be that she isn't pregnant. If she is, she will most likely deliver by day 32.
Can u please make a video about how to take care of newborn baby bunnies plz

Bigger is better than too small. Unless you have something closer to her body size, go with what you have.
Are pine shavings toxic or can I use them for the nesting box? On day 26🐰
I never recommend pine shavings if the bunny comes in contact with them. The oils can irritate them. Aspen shavings and/or shredded cardboard (Carefresh Naturals) and hay is a better option.
Hook's Hollands - Ohio Holland Lops thank you. What should I do if they eat it? I'm a beginner
I've never had issues with the bunnies eating the shavings, just the hay, which is fine.

Aw ur rabbit looks like mine
How many times a year so you breed your rabbits?
Usually about 2-3 times a year per doe.
Ok, and thanks for replying so quick!
Does the rabbit need to have a nesting box? Would she still take care of the rabbit without a nesting box?
They need a nest area where they can gather nest materials and place fur...like in the wild. A nest box just keeps things more tidy.
