I wish I had the restraint only to buy for a project but like many of us we buy what we like and make something later. I keep saying quit with the fabric already. But like crayons I can’t. It’s an addiction that apparently I will never break.
There are so many pretty fabrics to purchase!
Me too!!!
My friend wanted me to start quilting many yrs ago. I kept resisting and could not understand why she had so much fabric in totes. I relented and made a quilt with her teaching . Now , I am a fabric Addic and have so much fabric , I could open up a store! Ha ha on me!!!
You’re not alone!! I keep saying sew what you have!!! But I keep buying.
@@CorianderQuiltsyes Corey there are and you are not helping with the gorgeous colour palette you use all the time, they are just too tempting ❤
Buying just for the project that you're making is very controlled and admirable, but when we had a pandemic I was happy that I had a huge stash. Some of my fabrics dated back nearly 30 years and they got used because I was finally making quilts faster than I was buying new fabric.
It really is handy to be able to pull some fabrics from your stash when you want to start a project!
I can't imagine buying fabric only for one project at a time! Half (no 99%) of the fun of quilting is finding new treasures! And since I found Moda designers online........oh my! My husband sometimes frowns when I come in with another package. Love seeing that you're "my kind" of person, too.😉
There are always just so many pretty fabric lines!
Oh me too !! My daughter calls it Christmas again Mom!!!
Oh my goodness I have a closet overflowing and shelves full of fabric. I love to look at it and dream of what it could be!!
It's so much fun to think of the possibilities!
I'm excited for my mom in law and me to visit Plaid Sheep. Such an awesome shop. 😍
It's the cutest shop!
One of the most charming scrappy bindings I ever made was on a 30’s repro quilt. I used 2.5 inch squares. Yes, lots of seams, but my goodness, cutest thing!!!
That would be adorable!
I love the barn star pattern. Thank you for all of the information you provide for us. 😊❤
You are so welcome!...thank you so much!
I’m usually good and will almost only buy a collection if I’m nearly finishing a quilt, as I don’t ever want to run out of fabrics (as if!) , but even with this way of buying fabric, I’ve got two collections already for future quilts and I could easily make a couple of quilts from the leftovers as well, so I can see how easy it is to gather fabric. And in a few weeks, for the first time I’m going to the festival of quilts in Birmingham, UK, so I know I’m going to go wild and buy loads even with the best will in the world, fabrics bring me so much joy, enjoy your stashes ladies, it’s a great way to be creative and gift quilts to loved ones too❤
I buy entirely too much fabric! I started quilting two years ago. My first goal was to make a Christmas quilt for my 12 grandchildren. So far I have finished 10 and will finished the last two before Christmas; I hope! In my stash are two charm packs of Beautiful Day fabric. Such pretty colors in this fabric line. And I love the Barn Star patterns!
How fun...they are all going to appreciate their quilts. My grandma did the same...quilts for all of the grandchildren and then afghans for the great-grandkids. =)
I have 2 FQ bundles that I can’t seem to cut into. I just admire them on my shelf. Corey’s Apricot and Ash and a Basic Grey Christmas collection.
It's so fun to have those bundles just waiting on the right project. =)
Yay! It seems I'm not alone. I have SO much fabric and absolutely no idea what I want to do with most of it. I am an impulse buyer when it comes to fabric. "Oooooo. That's so pretty. I want 3 yards and at least 3 coordinates to go with it." Yep, that's me. Currently I'm trying to get some UFO's done. And I have 3 new sew-alongs I haven't even started!
Good Morning. I spent some nice relaxing time yesterday sewing my tree block for the Cuddle Up Sampler QAL. Including an Ohio Star in the block added a lovely touch, and I truly love the little star prints in the Starberry line. My Coriander Colors bundle arrived the other day. The color palette is gorgeous. The bundle is sitting on my dining room table and every time I pass by I stop, smile and give it a little pat❣
I can't wait to see what you decide to do with Coriander Colors...it's so fun on it's own or hold on to it and mix it in with other collections.
Thank you for offering your $5 patterns each month! I am hoarding some Apricot and Ash! Among some other Corey Yoder fabrics.
You are so welcome!
Someone gave me -FREE- a page tote FULL of wool fabrics. There had to be $1,000.00 worth of wools in that tote. I drooled. I love working with wool and I have a lot of patterns for wool projects. I am definitely going to use those fabrics. 👋👋👋👋👋
What a wonderful gift!
I am a new quilter, but I planned to start quilting a couple of years ago and signed up for the Fat Quarter Shop Sew Sampler box. I kept it going for about 8 months and accumulated a nice stash of fabric bundles. I finally made a quilt this year and now I am working on a set of placemats. It’s fun going through my stash to see what I can make. I definitely don’t want boxes of fabric in my space, but I like having some coordinated bundles to work with.
The Sew Sampler boxes are such a fun way to sample different notions and fabrics. =)
QUESTION. Hello Corey all the way from Australia. Love your fabric, patterns & tutorials. Thanks for all of those. I think my least favourite thing about the quilting process is building/putting together the quilt sandwich. I would be grateful for any tips or tricks that you have to share. Thanks again.
Tracey
Thanks so much for leaving a question!
I see fabric ( yardage or pre cuts) if I like it I buy it. I very seldom buy fabric for a specific project. I do buy background fabric by the bolt.
It's nice to have those background fabrics on hand. =)
I love all your Barn Star quilts and have collected them all. Now, just need to make them. I have purchased StarBerry for a couple of other projects, maybe I will have enough left over for a Barn Star. I am definitely a quilter that buys fabric just because it is pretty and quilt patterns/ books just to look at and dream.
Make sure to pop by my blog today...I mocked up some pretty Barn Star 3s using Starberry. =)
Me too!
Love the quilt pattern of the month for July! I might have to get it :)! I just bought Purry Stars last month. I am definitely a buyer of all the pretty and interesting fabrics. I am trying to hold back, but I have failed at being frugal. I do plan to use all, or most, in my lifetime. I sew A LOT.
There are always so many pretty fabrics and projects to make!
I'm sort of in between. I have a stash, but I don't very often add to it anymore except to buy fabric for specific projects. Right now, I have quite a few layer cakes and jelly rolls that I need to find projects for. I do love using up my stash.
It's fun to be able to pull from the stash to make a project. =)
Love the quilting on the Barn Star!
Isn't that fun!
I buy both! For a project and just because!!
Perfect!
Hello Corey! On one of Pat Sloan's videos said this: 'some of us quilt, some of us collect fabric and most of us are somewhere in the middle'😁 I am paraphrasing, but this sums me up. I LOVE fabric!
I recently was in Europe and I made it into a few quilt shops. I bought fabric almost solely for my collection.
With this years All Ohio Shop Hop, I am hoping to get to Plaid Sheep. My husband suggested I go to the areas of Ohio I wasn't able to get to last year. Thanks for your fun videos 🙂
Hi Maria!...that's probably pretty accurate, isn't it! =) If you do get to our neck of the woods, we have so many great quilt shops to visit!
I’ve only been making quilts about a year and a half now so because of my inexperience I only buy for the specific pattern I want to make. But I have several projects all lined up and ready to go as soon as I finish one quilt I can immediately start another! I have 5 project bins with everything I need tucked in and ready to go, yea!
How fun!
I just bought 6-half yards of a line that I thought was pretty and have no idea what I am going to do with them. I love buying fabric that catches my eye.
There are always so many eye catching fabrics, aren't there!
A few pieces? I have sew many bundles, jelly rolls, charm packs, mini charm packs, layer cakes, boxed quilt kits,……….. the list goes on! I could open my own fabric store!! Love your videos ❤
LOL!...I think you are in good company here. =) Many of us love fabric!
I was in my sewing room yesterday and cutting material for my pattern. I am not the best at cutting material, even with a ruler and rotary cutter, but I try. I love that barnstar 3. It is big. I love big.
I like the size of the Barn Stars too...it makes them sew together so quickly. =)
Love that barn star! I made the Proposal quilt hanging to your right as a wedding gift for a sweet young woman in our church. I added another column to make it queen size and I used yellow (her favorite color) and teal. She loves Boho style and I think the finished quilt looks Boho. She loved it!
What a wonderful gift!
I have already ordered Starberry fabric from the Plaid Sheep. Great customer service! I recently found some Cozy Up fabric at my local quilt shop on sale and promptly bought several yards. That is the most recent addition to my stash.
It's fun to find some of those older lines in a quilt shop!
Cozy up is amazing, perfect for autumn, loved that collection
Great bundles, I also have a half bundle of cotton velveteen in various shades of oranges & reds. They look hand dyed, so they are beautiful! My sister gave them to me. I have no idea what to make with them other than some small projects, such as pin cushions or some type of ornaments.
Oh how fun!
That barn star could be a baby adult. Love it.
It makes a great baby quilt!
Corey the placement of colors in the barn star look so good. I really like the solid colors in the quilt over your left shoulder. Looks like a easy and fun quilt.
Thanks so much Kathy!
Loved the question.
Watching while cross stitching and drinking coffee😊
Love that!
Hahahahahaha little bits of fabric!!!!!!!!!! I have enough to open a store as I have been quilting since the late 1990's xxxxxx
LOL!...I think you are in good company. =)
I love to buy fabric that i really like, am always going to be a quilter and am sure ill use what i love. I also buy fabric to just collect and look for a project to use them on when it comes up… and also purchase a pattern and the fabric all in one trip too. Love your videos and look forward them regularly! Thank you for making videos for us.
There are just always so many pretty fabrics to choose from!
Yay!!!! Love the barn stars! I need to look and see if I already have this one! Your colored versions in the different Starberry colors were nice, too! I also loved the red, white, and blue one. This pattern looks great, regardless of color!
It was so much fun mocking up those different versions. =)
Good morning, love the barn star quilts! So much fabric and so many projects!!!!!! I buy fabric to go with the project as well as other little bundles that I don’t know what I’m going to do with. I have several fat quarter bundles and I don’t know what to make with six fat quarters… in the meantime I love looking at all the pretty fabrics.
Sometimes a pretty little bundle just catches your eye!
I’m a fabric tucker! I spot a pattern or color I like or a pattern I could see as a backing and I add to my collection. I’ve been tucking for about 30 years and have started quilting a year and a half ago. So glad I was able to start a stash. I do actually purchase for specific projects also. When it’s time to do the scrappy quilts I shall be ready. Have a crafty day!
This is so fun!
Love the term fabric tucker ❤
Morning Corey, I really love that star pattern, just made the purchase. I also received your Coriander Colors fabric and thinking of using that fabric for the pattern. I love those quilts in the background, they are beautiful. Love the wool fabric also. I have plenty of fabric bundles in my stash from various designers including a variety of your collections , It's really getting ridiculous. I'm starting to become a fabric collector. 😄Great video as always. thanks for sharing.
Good morning! I think Barn Star 3 would be very pretty in Coriander Colors. =)
Sometimes those fabric bundles are just so eye catching, aren't they!
I have quite a collection, but truth be told, it all started during the pandemic. I like most others had been laid off, but i was surprised to receive unemployment - first time in over 30+ years. I was only working part time at the time, but had decades of full time work and now was making more staying at home, so online stash building became my new occupation.
There were so many quilters introduced to quilt making at that time!
I have a layer cake of Garden Gems by Clothworks; some of the prints look like impressionist art and I love the colors. I also have a patriotic mini charm pack. Yes, I'm waiting for the right patterns.
It's fun to decide on just the right pattern, isn't it!
For scrappy binding I sometimes break in to fat quarter bundles I have, grabbing a strip off ends (18 inch each) so that I can use fabric I love and still have a big chunk left for future projects!
Great suggestion!
Scrappy binding is awesome, one of my favourite ways to use up leftover fabrics
Thank you for the great information.
You're so welcome!...thank you for watching!
I too had the same questions about scrappy binding. Thanks for sharing. ☀️
You are so welcome!
Love the quilting design on the barn star quilt😊
Isn't it pretty!
Morning! Love the star quilts! I really love the quilt on your right in those earth tones. So pretty.
Good morning!...those are Tilda fabrics in that quilt. =)
QUESTION: what are your thoughts on borders? What do you prefer? Do you use WOF or length of fabric. If your using WOF do you join strips across or diagonally? I can do any of these, but find WOF easier and more economical. I wonder if joining strips is noticed once a quilt is long armed. There is so much going on in the end that maybe border seems are hardly visible. I think that this question would be of interest to many quilters. You are by far my favorite teacher!!!❤
Thanks so much for your kind comment and for leaving such a great question!
WOF for me as very often the length I’d need to purchase if I wanted to cut the borders LOF would be way more , I’ve never noticed the joint once it’s quilted, and I join the strips stitching them straight, not diagonally as then it might be more visible . I only join diagonally for strips that are for the binding
I love the two quilts on the far left and far right in your background. Because the internet is a seductive place, the book containing their patterns is now winging its way to me. 😆
Thank you so much!...it's so easy to find so many pretty things on the internet, isn't it!
I just got this pattern!! And the purry stars as well!!❤❤❤
Thank you!
I just got my half yard bundle of Coriander colors this week and love love love it. Makes me happy just looking at it.
Yay!...It'll be fun to what you want to use it for!
Until recently, I was the quilter who only bought for each project! I have been building my stash while I am out of work recovering from surgery. It's nice to have a little bit of a stash for scrappy projects. 🙂
It is nice to be able to pull from your stash. =)
I just got home from Canada, and I picked up a blueberry 🫐 print fabric that I love. I could probably buy it anywhere, but it seems like so much fun buying it in the environment that I most associate with blueberries.
Anyone else do this, or is it strange to you?
It's fun to pick up a little souvenir fabric when you are traveling. =)
Thank you so much Corey for answering my question about scrappy binding. I really appreciate your taking the time to help me out. Much appreciated. See you next time.
You are so welcome!
Perfect timing with this question. I was just thinking about this today as I am making some placemats and thought scrappy binding would be cute. Thinking for placemats I might need to lean shorter, like 6 to 8 inches.
@@Sewmena918I think that’s a great idea. Perfect timing for you for Corey to answer my question.
When i first started making quilts I would shop with my sister and she would invariably buy something she just could not leave in the shop, then when she decided on how to use it, she would not have enough to complete the project and then she would be searching and frustrated when she couldn’t find it…..so the project was stalled. Back then the internet was not quite as good as it is now where you can find almost anything doing a search. During those days I would do the same and many of those chunks of fabrics I still have in my stash having no idea how to incorporate them into a project. So i began to just buy what I needed for a project. That’s not to say that I don’t have way more fabric than I have intended projects, but that’s my plan mostly.
I can see how that could be problematic. =) When I buy fabrics in advance I often buy smaller amounts...often a precut. And I'll usually skip purchasing for borders/background/backing because I know I can often find something that coordinates down the road even if it's not from the same collection.
Noooooo!!! How can it be July already…😮
Thanks for the little $5 pattern boost, tho…it’s a good way to transition into the next month 😜
And yes, diagonal binding is my go to as well.
This summer is flying by!
I wish…and so does my credit card 😂…the type of person that could only buy for one project at a time. And even with the stash of fabric that I have it is inevitable that I purchase the backing fabric and sometimes even a particular color fabric for the quilt top. All the pretty new fabric lines it’s hard to control what is going to fill my shelves.
There are always so many new fabric lines coming out!
I just got this pattern!! It's beautiful and I got Purry Stars!!!
Thank you so much!
Corey, mix wool Applique. With flannel al AMS looks great.
It sure does!
I'm piecing Calliope today, and I love it! I'm using a FQB that I have held on to for months!
Yay!...have fun!
My star berry fabric just arrived!
Yay!
I'm getting in trouble buying all the gorgeous fabric! My problem being, I'm not sewing much. Going to approach with a positive attitude. Thank you for your Beauty!🙂💕🇱🇷
There are always so many pretty fabrics!
Good morning y'all
Good morning!
Good morning!
Good morning!
thx
You're welcome!
Just noticed the quilts behind I have ya book that they're ion love it 😊
Thank you so much!
I just buy fabric! It’s pretty and want to make more than I have time for. Hopefully I’ll live unto retirement and can sew everything I want! 😂
There are always so many pretty fabrics to buy!
Hi Corey 💐
Good morning Tess!
I have a small bundle of silks I found at a show that I'm scared to cut 😅 Love the barn star❤
That sounds like a fun project to dream about!
Love my Corey time, you have such a calm and friendly way of speaking ❤. Unrelated to this video, can I ask my online quilting friends if instead of using small scissors to cut almost to the stitch line of an appliqué shape, that’s then turned right side , ( previously stitched wrong side on interface), can I use pinking shears instead? Will that allow the fabric once turned not to pucker at curves? I love my little yellow , super sharp omnigrid scissors, they are perfect for that but unfortunately my muscles in my hands hurt after I do a few of these, and they hurt for days at times, which then means I have to wait for a few days until I can do that again… .i think it’s the repetitive small movements I do with the scissors that cause my muscles to hurt, so if the pinking shears would do the same job then I’m happy to invest in a pair, and any recommendations regarding shears that don’t hurt hands would be great 😊
LOL I only buy for a project I’m going to make…. Someday 😅
LOL...you crack me up!
@@CorianderQuilts 😂🤣😅
Love Saturday’s with you ❣️‼️
Happy Saturday! Corey is here.😃 As you were showing us your gorgeous wool bundle, I thought what about making a barn star with the wool? You have a new Barn Star pattern, would the wool work? Do you need to adjust cutting and seam allowance to accommodate the thickness of it? Just a question. I love your Saturday videos so much! Thank you for everything you do!❤️
Happy Saturday! I would be more inclined to use the wools for applique of some sort within a quilt...I'm just not sure on the design. Something like this: store.figtreeandcompany.com/product_p/woolbom_ret.htm
Thank you for answering my question and for the link. ❤️
Hi Corey! Thanks for being such a bright spot on my Saturday morning ❤️. I loved your field trip. I went to the plaid sheep for the first time this spring during a retreat in Berlin. I ❤️ that shop!!! @honeybunnyquilting
It's always so much fun to chat on Saturday mornings. =) Isn't Plaid Sheep fun!
QUESTION: Sometimes I will buy a Layer Cake that just speaks to me, but then struggle with funding the right pattern. My current is Moda Land of Enchantment and no clue where to use it and the prints are so bright and happy. The struggle is real! 😊
Thank you so much for leaving a question!
Maybe a simple five inch patchwork to show off the lovely pattern, or a heart appliqué with these fabrics on neutral background?
I’m constantly sewing but I still can’t keep up with the projects in my stash. There are just too many projects I want to make, it’s not easy to stop buying more fabrics!
There are always so many fun projects!
Scrappy binding - I Love it, nut it stresses me a bit. #1 - I do not want to end with the same print I started around the quilt. #2 - I do not want the seam between one print to the next to get caught on the corner. #3 - You need random lengths so you do not end up with everything being the same until the last fabric being stitched down. Am I the only one thinking about these things when doing scrappy binding?
I always think when you are are the one working on the project, you should approach it in a way that makes you happy. If you want to make sure and plan things out then you should!
I used to worry about scrappy binding , if the joint would end up on the corner, but as I join them diagonally, I found out that when these happened, it was actually not a problem at all, but I agree with Corey, you can always quickly assess where they’ll land, and maybe try and have longer strips joined together so less chances of that happening
I love the turtle quilt behind you. Where can I find the pattern?
Hi Corey, what is the quilt on your right and the fabric collection? It looks stunning.
QUESTION: Might you have any "heads up" as to how to pre-treat homespuns (wovens) before you sew with them? As I can recall from my Ohio days (Hartville) we pre-washed them and then spray-starched and ironed them. I am totally unsure of this though. Thanks. Love the barn star pattern and fabrics you just showed.
Thank you for leaving a question!
I can't buy just for the project I'm making. I like to buy fabric on sale and sometimes, I'm making 2 to 5 quilts at one time. I admire people who can show restraint but I also know it wouldn't work for me. lol
There are always so many pretty fabrics!
I have a little stash of liberty of London fabric that I have and know I want the project to be epp ! But Iam not sure which pattern I want so I keep putting off starting !
That'll be fun to work on when you decide!
blog post, block is the center block of my planned Blockheads quilt layout. It is the center of my Barn Star 7 quilt pattern. is there a video on how put it together??
There is no video for the Barn Star 7 pattern.
QUESTION. I know the fashion industry can influence many current things like patterned paper, wallpaper, paint color trends in interior design. Is there something you keep up with that helps you stay up to date with current trends?
Thank you for leaving a question!
Oh one more thing. Sorry I am so talkative today. Will you ever have very light gray fabric with light pink fabric ? I love those two colors together. It could be medium gray, light gray, and then light pink. And.... peach. I love different shades of peach.
I did have shades of peach along with light gray in my Peachy Keen fabric line....but that might not have been the right color pink/peach you were thinking.
Well I have a secret stash of Corey but I do have bundles of Tilda I love and can’t seem to cut into. 😊😊😊😊
I was just looking at some new Tilda yesterday...they are such pretty fabrics!
Where is your pattern for the turtle quilt behind you? I wasn't able to find it on your etsy site. Thank you
It's in my book, Oh Happy Day. I have the book linked in the description box below the video.
I just posted a quilt that is scrap but I used strips from the same jelly roll.
It was the Sunny Patches quilt, wasn't it!...I saw it over in the Coriander Quilts Facebook group---so pretty!
Yes it was
What is the beautiful brown quilt to your right with the rings? 😍 I love it
Thank you! It’s called Proposal from my book Oh Happy Day. The link to the book is in the description box below the video.
@@CorianderQuiltsit’s gorgeous
Love the snowball/link quilt over your right shoulder. What's the name? Thanks.
Thank you!...Proposal from my book Oh Happy Day. It's linked in the description box below the video.
QUESTION: Cory when I buy a precut of a designer from Moda I often want to use some Moda solids with a pattern. Since colors are distorted somewhat on a computer/laptop where can I go to find out which Moda Bella Solids "match" the fabric precut I have bought?
Sometimes the designers will state which solids are coordinating with their collection, I’m pretty sure Corey also gives solid colour suggestions, it’s very helpful. Otherwise maybe invest in a Moda Bella solids chart? Not sure if they have a version of it with actual fabric samples though, good luck in your quilt
Question: When making a quilt, would you mix different types of fabrics, like flannel with quilting cotton? I have a flannel layer cake and am wondering if I make quilt with the flannel and use quilting cotton for the background would it look okay.
Thank you for leaving this question!
What is name of pattern behind you with turtles on it? So cute.
Thank you! It's called Slow Down and is my book Oh Happy Day. I have the book linked in the description box below the video. =)
I have a FQ stack of Adele in Summer just waiting for time and inspiration to collide.
That sounds so fun!
Would you identify the quilt pattern and fabric line for the quilt hanging in the background to your right?
On my right in the beiges/mauves is Proposal. The pattern can be found in my book Oh Happy Day which is linked in the description box below the video (you can always find the quilts in my backdrop info there). The fabrics used are a mix of Tildas.
Thank you! Always look forward to your videos.
Corey, do you have a tutorial on cutting fabric ? I have four 3 yards material and when I put the selvages together, the material is crooked. Can you help ?
I don't have one Jeni!
What is the fabric you used for the 9 patch quilt over your left shoulder. I am buying your book but would also like help colorful fabric. Thanks.
It's a mix of Moda Bella solids. The border fabric is from my Sunnyside Up line and I matched solids to the border.
Is there a material list for the sew along that will be in 2025
Yes...you'll find it in this blog post: corianderquilts.com/cali-co-2025-mystery-bom/
Does anyone know where to purchase the turtle pattern quilt behind Corey in this video. Thank you
It is in my book Oh, Happy Day. You will find a link to the book in the description box below the video. =)
Hello Corey, John the Quilter here. I have Barn Star 6 and Peachy Keen fabric waiting to sew. I also have the pattern for #8. I was thinking of getting #3 plus one more to make an 80” square quilt . Would this work and should all the fabric be Peachy Keen or could I mix in other lines? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
John
Hey John!...Yes, they all mix together beautifully. If you happen to pop by my Etsy shop, I have a listing for the 1st four and the photo for that listing shows all of them mocked up together using one fabric line...If you kind of want to get an idea of how they might look. You'd be looking at a different mix of four but that still might be helpful. You could definitely mix in other fabric lines but I'd probably mix in fabrics that coordinate with Peachy Keen just to keep things cohesive.
Thanks Corey but which coordinate with Peachy Keen? I know you have a new line to go block 8. When is #9 due to come out? Maybe I’ll wait for it!
Thanks, John!

would you use wool in a quilt??
Yes I would. It is very pretty when hand appliqued.
