Identical twin sisters Lisa and Lora learned to sew as children, but they never quilted. So how did they become top quilt designers?
It all began when Lisa signed up for a Block of the Month with a friend named Ingrid.
1000 miles away, at the exact same time, Lora also joined her first Block of the Month…with a friend named Inger!
“It’s a twin thing,” they say.
We’ve loved Material Girlfriends patterns for years. (Remember the Wallah quilt?) And this week, Jenny is stitching another of their designs, Bundles and Bows.
This quilt comes together quickly with the Hey Boo Halloween layer cake by Lella Boutique for Moda Fabrics. (Don’t miss that cute striped binding!)

I made this quilt last year in Fig Tree Christmas fabric. It's a beautiful quilt.
This is such a cute quilt! I have some layer cakes that are just hanging out waiting for the right pattern and I think this is it. Thanks Jenny.
Love the Material Girl. She has free patterns a lot. I'm going to check to see how much this one is. I thought there's no way I can do that, but I think I can! Great instruction, Jenny
Just noticing the vintage irons an small sewing machines on the shelves behind you, awesome, and lovely block!
I can get distracted with those items in the shelves! Wish I had more wall space where I sew for shelves like these - guess I really need to move downstairs to the dining room which we have never used in 25 years - dint even have a specific table for it😁😁😁
@@sandybruce9092Move, girl, move!
This was one of your best tutorials yet! Thank you.
I agree
Thanks Jenny. Very interesting quilt block construction.
I love watching your tutorials! You explain everything so precisely!! Thank you!!
Beautiful quilts...it does look like the top of Christmas gift boxes....I love it
It’s so amazing how clever these patterns come out with imaginative cutting 😊
🇨🇦 The lobster is what I first saw as well. What a beautiful quilt.
I like the "trick" that ends up being such a cute block.
I agree with most. A single block looks like a lobster, minus his tail. Four blocks together in this presentation looks like the top of a present.
What a wonderful block. Thank you Jenny!
Beautiful. Awesome how their minds work so many patterns from one block. I can only do that by accident🤣🤣🤣🤭
Amazing how the block comes together! As you said at the beginning, it is quite clever and I'm scratching my head trying to figure out how it will possibly work! Very cool pattern. Thanks so much.
Love the fabric line and the pattern. The spider print you put on the back looks brilliant!😊
Good morning. Love this quilt. Your instructions are superb! I am reading, How to Quilt an American Dream. Oh my word. Love you all. Blessings. 🥰
Thanks Jenny. Love this project. 🤗🤗🙏❤
I love Halloween fabrics and as you said, this is a delightfully clever pattern❣️ Thanks for introducing me to the material girls patterns.
Another great fun quilt! I think this would be a fabulous two color quilt!
That’s a great idea! I saw a few two color layer cakes a few minutes ago in MSQC website that I really liked!
In some of the layouts I sort of see vertical stripes. I am wondering how it would look alternating red and white for those “stripes” and blue for the stars to make a patriotic quilt.
Love watching, learning, and creating from your videos! You and the girls are awesome. Thanks for sharing with us all!❤
Love how it comes together!!!!! ❤
This is so fun thank you for sharing with us Jenny!
I made this quilt. It was very fun and super fast.
❤Much Love to you, Miss Jenny❤
that orange block looks like a lobster to me....what a quilt that would be...hello from nova scotia canada :)
It does to me also. I was reading comments to see if it did to anyone else
Jenny, another great quilt! I have a hard time with scrappy- so this was right up my alley. ❤
I would do a small wall hanging 4 blocks square and use Xmas fabric since it looks like the top of a present.
Looks like a fun pattern!
Beautiful pattern!! Thanks for showing us the ropes :)
Looks like a lobster 🦞
Yup it does
😂I thought the same thing when I saw it!!
I was just thinking the same thing. It’s missing its tail though.
Now that you mentioned it, I see it too.
I thought the same....???? Summer quilt perhaps??
Love this Jenny Thank you x
So cute!
I also see a secondary shape . . . a spaceship in each corner!! ❤❤
Love this! Can wait to try it!
Love it Jenny!
Cute pattern!
Jsem z ceska super sleduji casto 😊
I wish we had seen one of the other layouts too.
The other layouts are on material girlfriends web site
@@m0ther0ne cool! I will check that out. I watched at 4 am so … both sides of my brain weren’t completely in sync. 😂
@@m0ther0neI checked out the website, I don’t see the other layouts. I did find five layouts on their Etsy site.
Cute quilt yes this is a wonderful one thank you
Oh, I thought Misty previewed this one with a jelly roll (in a short). It's ok... I saw the ĥuge colourful blocks, different pattern... I am chuck's long lost cousin, goose. Love the block and pattern no longer confused. 😮 hugs, Chel 🌸
Love this
Looks like the Bernatte machines didn't pass the test. Glad to see the Baby Lock's back.
I think MSQC should coin the term, “weirdly funky” to always be when someone cuts backwards, 😂. Jenny is fun even when she is serious. 😊
Love this pattern, thanks
Jenny, it is Material Girlfriends!
Terrific pattern as sew often
Cute quilt.
Jenny I love your videos.
Love it 💕
Molt bunic molt❤❤❤❤❤❤
Love “Material Girlfriends” patterns!!!
So stinking cute❤
So nice.
No offense to the girls but your demonstration is 1 million times better than theirs. When you follow their video your chances of getting sit between slim and none. This makes it feel like I can do it and I won't be wasting fabric.
I tried this today using light and dark blue scraps, just to test how it would look. It looks pretty good. Here are some thoughts: the fabric choices between background & star need to be strong differences, light/dark, red/blue, etc. Avoid combining florals in both light and dark sides, one side is okay, because the blocks come out muddy and you can't really see the stars. You might get away without the background layer cake, and just use one layer cake if the cake is about 1/2 one strong group & 1/2 another. So, a layer cake I had recently that was pretty evenly divided between navy, red, beige and white would work with the reds & blues being dark and the beige & whites being light. I used painter's tape to mark my ruler and twice (!) cut right down the middle instead of 1.75" off set. It's like driving on the wrong side of the road. Focus! Focus! Focus! You're dealing with bias when you sew the triangles back on the center. Be careful not to stretch and resist the temptation to remove that tiny triangle -- for 2 of my blocks they were needed in the trim down. Once the block is completed, there is a generous 1/4-3/8" to trim, so "wonky" can be cut to "wonderful," just keep going. Finally, Jenny is okay with ironing any old which way, but I did find that seams nested better if I was consistent about ironing to the dark side, and on the finished blocks, made all the light arrows go one way & dark arrows the other. It went together really quickly, in spite of my couple bad cuts and remaking a few muddy blocks.
Would I make another one? Maybe. Depends. For all the fussy cutting, I might prefer to make a similar design with just half square triangles, squares and rectangles. Then my seams would line up and I'd avoid sewing bias edges. .
Lol, I love Jenny but I cringe every time she picks up an iron. Maybe someday she will discover the joy of precision pressing to go with her new-ish appreciation for squaring blocks. 😂
huge like!!!!!!!!!! bless
cute!
Good use for leftover squares.
Im fixing to start your crosswalk quilt from the 2 1/2" companion book for my wifes quilt. I let her pick fabric and the pattern.
Do y'all sell DVDs of your tutorials? I have to watch it several times to get it in my brain. 3:00 pm CDT 9/3/2024
At first glance I thought it was a pile of Christmas presents!
Nice project😊
Cute
Who else saw a crab 🦀 at 15:15 when she held up the block? 😂
I was thinking more like a lobster.. embroider some antenna and maybe feet and there it is.
Благодарю за видео!
❤❤❤
How big is the block
This looks like another GE Designs quilt pattern. Regardless, using the stripology ruler would save an immense amount of time for the cutting, especially on the corner cuts.
It looks like four little bat-heads in the middle of the block! Cute!
Nice.
I see that each block needs two matching 10” squares from the layer cake but so many layer cakes do not come with duplicates - do I need to purchase 2 identical layer cakes?
The original pattern just used two similar color squares.
Today I am the first to watch
Isopropyl alcohol will also remove shaprie marker from most things.
Thanks! I thought about just using blue tape or those ones that come three neon colors to a pack! I’ve never marked directly on any of my rulers and it’s good to know how to remove the mark without damaging the rest of the measurements!
I wish you showed a couple other layouts!
Interesting pattern. when you trimmed it up I thought it looked like a lobster.
The link to the pattern isnt working for me. 😢
Use “wet erase” markers on your rulers.
I really did not like the fabric. So the pattern did not grab me. Maybe in a Kaffe or a batik would entice me. But the quilt you did a few years ago of a similar type star I did sew that with some MSQC fabric and gifted it,
I would have preferred a fabric with more contract - thinking about a Halloween layer cake with more vivid fabrics! This is too dull for me, but I do see lots of other choices!
I just took a look at the quilt pictures in the pattern and the colors are stronger and toe different but compatible colors are used - works better for me since quite a few layer cakes don’t come with duplicates (I have several of this kind!)
I was thinking two colors. Example all blues for the focal and black background
The link to the pattern is not working for me either
Does anyone else see a lobster 🦞 or is it just me
