+Firemarioflower Forget reliability, just look at the interior of the NX. It just looks so much cheaper than on a German rival with too many cheap plasitics.
+Firemarioflower Car recalls have nothing to do with reliability. Every manufacturer has had a recall of some form. Toyota cars are the most reliable on the road. They will easily out perform other brands.
Firemarioflower you can look at jdpower and car consumer reports. Toyota and lexus are always in the top 3 or 4 around most countries... These are for 3 year old cars or more. There will always be recalls and teething problems, but there are more for other companies according to reports and studies. No company will be without fault though.
Armin K Yeah why compare the two is beyond me. In Canada one starts at 41k, not really requiring any upgrades, whereas the Macan will put you close to 65-70k after upgrades. True you could buy it stock at 55k but that price difference can buy a 2nd car.
+Armin K Sorry dude, the Macan is 50 percent a better car. It's not as ugly as the NX. It's interior looks and feels much posher. It drives and handles and rides so much better. Lexus are stupid thinking that they can compete with the Germans cause they simply cannot.
peacegod101 Well obviously they can... When German sponsored journalists compare your vehicles to German wagens, you're onto something. The NX compares to X3-Q5 and GLC, and it does rather well.
notformebeaky You don't seem to understand how business and marketing works. A private magazine does not have to be totally objective, it recieves money from car makers to be featured on the cover, or several pages of a magazine. In exchange for that money, not only do they get the space they requested but they also get kind words from the journalist who rely on the company's money to get a salary. If with this clear explanation you still do not understand, then you either are naive or you are stupid.
you forgot tell tell most important thing mr.. bmw , audi rangerover will break after 3 years!!! and you sale it quarter of price or fix it for big buk..... lexus will keep driving ....and driving.... retain its value ;)
Firemarioflower why you trying to force people into buying german everyone has different taste not all of us want to buy a bmw or as i like to call it (big money worries)
@notformebeaky actually matt makes videos about most unreliable and reliable cars. Guess what lexus is in the top 3 most reliable car ever and no other european car is close to top 3
He is over exaggerating some of the negative points. Having test driven this car myself I feel it was not that different to its rivals and I really liked it. Test drive it yourself and do not believe everything this guys says. Remember this is a car for keep cause it out does its competition with lexus' reliability. Bmws, evoque, audi are just disposal thrills. Own one for 2 to 3 years and things start going down hill and you're left having to pay big bills for repairs. At least with the lexus you won't have to worry too much about this.
Agreed! I have the car too it’s quiet spacious in comparison to many hatch backs!! It’s also actually quite punchy and has decent pick up specially in sports mode. It’ll pull you back. Ofc it’s not a super car nor an ultra fast sports car but it definitely has some pull! It’s also generally very enjoyable to drive and decent on fuel economy. Luxury, bit of punch and durability what more do you really want? 😂😂😂😂
I've found this channel has become very bias against non-euro brands, and this review was terrible, not on the part of the NX, but from Mat, which is a surprise to say the least. Sounds like you liked the car in many ways but had to find downsides to justify it as inferior. The comment regarding hybrids and diesels couldn't be more wrong. Hybrids perform best in city stop and go driving. Diesels are more advantageous on long highway commutes. Which is better depends on the sort of driving you do. Buying a diesel over a hybrid for stop and go driving is not a good idea. A good review would have pointed this out to potential buyers, instead of allow the bias for all things european, i.e. the diesel way of doing things in this case, to cloud the judgement. The comment over the ride was surprising, considering most US based reviews have praised the NX's ride. Perhaps Lexus needlessly firmed the suspension for the Euro market, but then again you'd be probably complaining that the handling isn't as sharp with a softer suspension. No mention of handling in this review. Finally, you cannot compare an NX to a Macan. I guess it's a good sign when you have to reach that high to put the NX down, but a Macan starts at 40,000 GBP while the NX starts at 29,000 GBP. Of course no mention of value or price when you brought up the Macan. Or the relative fuel economy (32-43mpg w/ 175 g/km CO2 in the Macan vs. 56.g mpg w/ 117 g/km CO2 in the NX). Yes the price of running rings around another car is fuel economy and emissions, potential buyers may be interested to know. I imagine most people are more interested in running costs in a family SUV over street race capability.
They're not biased because when they criticize they use arguments. They point out good things as well. Since Americans , Europeans, Australians etc. are looking for something different in their cars. Therefore Carbuyer tests cars from European point of view, where interior quality, refinement, mature/sporty handling and agile drivetrains are quite important. For city stop and go driving Europeans use public transport, those living outside city also spend some time on the highway where diesel makes much more sense than a hybrid. US reviews were praising the fact that the ride is smooth and quiet American style - on a wide flat highways. With some corners, bumps and overtaking on tight British roads things don't looks as good anymore. They compared it to Porsche because the Macan is the benchmark in terms of handling in this class. Real world fuel consumption is also very close. Mat also mentioned that BMW X3 or Audi Q5 have more comfy suspensions. Also their diesel engines are more economical in real life. Running costs are similar, Lexus is a premium brand and at least in Europe charges premium for service, spare parts etc.
It is funny. Lexus is selling more and more, and in same time there is more and more jalousing frustrated hater kids making hates comments on Lexus reviews. It is like for Audi or Mercs and BMW. That mean Lexus have reached the top ranks 👍. Sorry for yo haters.. and nevermind, none of you have money to own one 👅. You hatin'... Lexus keep rollin' 🙏
loo lolo LEXUS all day long a user since 2003 nothing come close for luxury and reliability. Ten years Lexus drives like s new car they made them to last forever. A poor man Royce rolls what a car.
Just bought one 2nd hand today. After sitting in the passenger seat for 2 min I was convinced. I am driving a 2015 5-series, diesel. And no more diesel for me.
***** True, especially about the chassis. The car is built on the Toyota MC platform, which is a FWD one, but can be altered to fit RWD and AWD behicles. The current one fro the NX is a revised version that the Lexus RX, a conventional 4WD was built on, just like the RAV4 is too.
I test drove the 2016 today and I must say majority of the negative comments are puzzling to me. Anyone who states that the interior looks cheap seems to not have actually been inside this car. It definitely is not cheap looking. So please anyone who is interested just go see it for yourself. And those who call it cheap and ugly don't mock it unless you have seen it in person and taken a test drive.
This car features a wireless charging station for mobile phones, and it is the only one in Europe so far, in my opinion this is something remarkable that reviewer does not highlight.
Modern cars not having a spare tire is horrible. If you get a nail (usual reason for deflation) in it, you can reinflate and seal with the can of Fix-a-Flat they come with. Then you have to buy a new tire to get it to balance instead of just getting it plugged. If you get a cut in the sidewall (happened to me), you are stuck and have to be towed. Not good if you are actually offroad or just in some obscure location. I don't mind the space saver, which at least gets you out of there while saving weight and fuel over the years.
I really like the NX. Not that they compare, but my 2014 Prius has the same "hesitation" on sudden acceleration. Even in "power" mode. And, yes, I have lost the opportunity to overtake because of this.
My Lexus dealer lent me one while my old GS300 was being serviced. I enjoyed it, loads of room for anything and smooth drive. I just wish I could afford to buy one, I retired, so there's no more money to come.
Funny how many people on these video comments hate it...and yet there's now a 9 month waiting list to get one because Lexus way underestimated how many people would buy one.
We had the Lexus IS-F which had the same problem with the throttle response. When you pressed the throttle it paused a sec. And then gave its power. Quite strange...
This is one review I was waiting for. The appearance is always going to be very much down to the individual - personally I have to say I like it. What concerns me MORE is MPG...30/31mpg! WHAT! I'm not a hard driver but with my Evoque I used to get a consistent 37mpg, are Hybrids focusing on CO2 emissions rather than MPG - which would be a real shame. I'll leave it in the shopping trolley for the moment along with the X4 and Q5 until I drive it myself. The one thing I'd expect is excellent reliability. Great review as always - helps give food for thought.
Hey Matt, I'm from Brazil. It would be great to have an answer from you about my indecision over my next car. I'm beetween buying a brand-new Hyundai ix 35 or a Land Rover Discovery 3 2008. Any advice? Ps: here, in Brazil those 2 cars are the same prince, due to the difference of age. Thanks. I really enjoy your channel! Big fan!
It looks like Acura is going to pick up where Lexus left off as the purveyor of understated luxury. Minimal designs were working just fine for them, so I don't understand why they felt the need to go to such extremes in terms of styling.
Matt, mind why there's so much interest over Diesel engines on uk ? Is it for tax free exemptions " Eco drive or both ? Thanks , just see all your videos from far (far) away , always wondered why diesel is so important there. Cheers.
They're fun to drive and still very economical in real life which is very important because fuel in the UK is one of the most expensive in the world. Even though diesel fuel is slightly more expensive than regular gasoline, overall savings are substantial. There's also road tax which depends on CO2 emissions and since diesels are very economical, emissions (and therefore road tax) are pretty low.
In India too lexus selling numbers are quite low compared to German British rivals .so can't say he is biased.people have money always look for a combo and dont want to compromise something for their money.bad luck for lexus.
Of course people buy SUV's for the extra space and room. come on chap, I actually enjoy your reviews but recently the comments are getting more and more silly. How can an SUV offer the same boot space as a hatchback!?
And I don't want an SUV to turns heads (couldn't care less about what our people think) it's for the extra room than my hatch, more room when seated, better visibility when driving. This guy is a dropkick.. well done carbuyer another shitty review..
He means back seat not boot. The Volkswagen Touareg has around the same back seat space as a Passat, same with the Tigian (however you spell it) and Golf.
He doesn't mention any of the advantages of the hybrid drivetrain... like it uses less elements than diesels or petrols so you get lower price maintenance, the brakes will work a lot longer also, etc. So this review is favouring the germans... as always with carbuyer and it's sister sites. Not a well thought review at all in my opinion.
Where has the new female presenter disappeared to? She did one review and that was it! Come back Rebecca...She was only 5foot 4 and a ½, but she was cute.
The new P85D makes other car makers and their new cars feels silly in comparison! It makes me wonder what the hell Porsche is doing right now? Got their ass kicked in the performance luxury car class?! I mean I still loved them as before but what Tesla had done is simply makes Porsche and all the other companies like they're just fooling around making some easy cash grab models
There are no Engine choices 1 -Some people don't like Hybrids because it pushes the price of the vehicle considerably 2- Also at motorway speeds the consumption is worse than a normal vehicle duo to the dead weight of the hybrid components I like the looks of this car !!!
HONDA is coming back with some nice hybrid tech, and it will be paired with DUAL CLUTCH GEARBOXES. That is the right way to go!!! And It would have been a lot more fun if H stood for Hemi.....
What a shame, I was so looking forward to this review and possible purchase. Why haven't Lexus got the ride sorted. My Q5 S Line Plus on 20" wheels has a brilliant ride, yet the Lexus is only on 18's and hasn't. Also I am pretty sure there are seat release catches in the boot after seeing other RUclips clips, there are small toggles just inside the opening by the lights... isn't that them?
As an update, I had my test drive and I have to agree with Matt that the ride is the worst aspect of an otherwise great car. Such a shame. Matt is also right about not being able to drop the seats from within the boot, another oversight. The reviews I saw had electric back sets which could be dropped from within the boot, cabin or back seats.
Total reliability or youbwant to pay through the nose for a whip that doesn't work and goes the garage all the time. You will have 0 outlay in a year compared to 1k or more with other marks
The US model is a little more normal around the fog lights or whatever those are. Very Japanese style oversculptured. It's weird that Japanese art and gardens and flower arranging are very aesthetic and austere, and the cars have always generally been assemblages of design cues from BMW and Mercedes, or original for the sake of being original and overdone. I know that car companies these days may have designers on staff from various countries, and studios in California etc., but it always comes out that way anyway. I wouldn't want to be seen in this, and that is the ultimate test.
The biggest difference between the landrover and the Lexus IS that the Lexus will still bring you home after 15 years en 300.000km... the landrover will be burried in the mud at that time...
That isn’t a problem for the first owner. Nobody who is buying a new car won’t keep it for 15 years. The Germans and Land Rover are better than this car in every other way
Great review, a bit biased that’s ok we’re all biased anyway. About acceleration I think if you put it in sports mode it reacts much faster since it prioritizes the acceleration over fuel economy.
i ve driven the car for 30 km it sucks bad, i totally disagree that its well isolated cause on greek roads tire roll wont let you have a conversation , the suspension is catastrofic and every time you pass through a road anomaly the whole car pops alot and leaves a terrible sound like when something heavy hits the floor in your living room, CVT is a total failure, you cant understand when the car is going and when is not, and finally the noise of the motor is so strong and hillarious cause it sounds like youre driving a 1000 cc smart thats struggling to get some speed.I ve test drived the 2.5 hybrid petrol version with 197 hp and it sucks totally.
Ii got a Lexus rx I think you be better off with the rx because the nx is very expensive because it's not long out and it's a lot smaller ''''' with a lot of space and ledgedary reliability and proven quality and power units 'this vehicle the rx has the best c6 engine in t the world not. one ever had broken down ''''' now that's some record 'it's the Lexus rx for me
I think you forgot to mention one big thing for a Lexus: Reliability!!

It may not drive as good as macan/x3, but it is cheaper and lasts longer. My choice is x3.
Best seats? What about Volvo's?
Exactly! good question.
Lexus jest droższy więc może są lepsze
soccer mom everywhere will love them. good job lexus
So why would a soccer mom drive a compact car?
Mat is hot
This is gorgeous
So, what happened to Ginny?
Who cares?
Hi Master_Hector, Ginny has been very busy filming for TV, but she'll be back next week! She recorded two new videos on Wednesday - so hold tight!
***** me too, I think most people miss Rebecca (I don't 'hate' Ginny though)
I think Ginny was murdered in Harry Potter 2?
MaZEEZaM lmao...
It seems BUXTON water is gaining popularity in UK.
The cvt 1.6 gearbox sounds terrible tho
This car is looks good, not the best looking but looks good.
Hi benimsayfam1000, Ginny has been very busy filming for TV, but she'll be back next week! She recorded two new videos on Wednesday - so hold tight!
Lexus and Audi for supreme reliability in the market. (consumereports mag) Forget the others.
Looks much better in F Sport guise IMO
I'm waiting for forester hybrid.
I have the sport version and man it has more than thw car in the video
I still waiting for Carbuyer to review Tesla Model S...
They're not allowed
The new P85D makes other car makers and their new cars feels silly in comparison! It makes me wonder what the hell Porsche is doing right now? Got their ass kicked in the performance luxury car class?! I mean I still loved them as before but what Tesla had done is simply makes Porsche and all the other companies like they're just fooling around making some easy cash grab models
Barami Snaeha theyre stilo not allowed
Barami Snaeha If you even think the Model S is anywhere near the Panamera, you are sorely mistaken.
You got your wish.
Buy one they are fantastic car it's better to get a review from owners who know better 😀
Do more audi like a6 and such
There are no Engine choices
1 -Some people don't like Hybrids because it pushes the price of the vehicle considerably
2- Also at motorway speeds the consumption is worse than a normal vehicle duo to the dead weight of the hybrid components
I like the looks of this car !!!
BMW has been doing that brake energy thing for years
I love this and the new IS
Saying diesel is better is like saying "here kitty kitty" to a tiger... you end up with a big OUCH
i like to explaine to me why VW Golf, Jetta, passat, etc, have a transmission tunnel when they obviously are FWD
Exhaust?
Exhaust jackass
Linkages and pipes to the exhaust
HONDA is coming back with some nice hybrid tech, and it will be paired with DUAL CLUTCH GEARBOXES. That is the right way to go!!! And It would have been a lot more fun if H stood for Hemi.....
People buy midsize SUVs to stand out in a crowd! How times have changed!
"The engine, the CVT and the electric motor all have a bit of a discussion then decide Yes, we do want to accelerate!" Brilliant...
Simple, because the Q5 is an A4 derivative, whereas the NX is a RAV4
n777ua Actually, the NX is based on the new Highlander.
Yes
This isn't mid size, it's compact; The RX is mid
the interior seems great...but could be better
Boy does the guy look like a smurf at the beginning of the video.
Failed to mention that Lexus has the capacity to go for 300,000kms. Can a European car say the same beyond 100,000? Hmmmm
Looks more like a concept 😊
I wish other luxury car makers would get rid of that huge transmission tunnel, so 3 can seat in the back.
Total reliability or youbwant to pay through the nose for a whip that doesn't work and goes the garage all the time. You will have 0 outlay in a year compared to 1k or more with other marks
in my eyes, suvs are soccer mom mobiles, waste of money things.. but this one.. id consider it if i had kids based on looks alone, what a beauty!
The Germans and Land Rover are better than this car in every other way
I wouldn't take one as a gift.
Great review, a bit biased that’s ok we’re all biased anyway. About acceleration I think if you put it in sports mode it reacts much faster since it prioritizes the acceleration over fuel economy.
oh my god! they smashed the front end of this car and even the sides suffered in the crash! I wonder how this car looked before the accident!
Ioanides001 ... when dad let the internet open, children comes and writes stupid things.
loo lolo omg this hurt so bad! comparing me with a child - you're the best!
***** not sure why you're so glad tho. are you often glad without a reason? good for you!
Very good looking car i think!
Nice shoes
i ve driven the car for 30 km it sucks bad, i totally disagree that its well isolated cause on greek roads tire roll wont let you have a conversation , the suspension is catastrofic and every time you pass through a road anomaly the whole car pops alot and leaves a terrible sound like when something heavy hits the floor in your living room, CVT is a total failure, you cant understand when the car is going and when is not, and finally the noise of the motor is so strong and hillarious cause it sounds like youre driving a 1000 cc smart thats struggling to get some speed.I ve test drived the 2.5 hybrid petrol version with 197 hp and it sucks totally.
Ii got a Lexus rx I think you be better off with the rx because the nx is very expensive because it's not long out and it's a lot smaller ''''' with a lot of space and ledgedary reliability and proven quality and power units 'this vehicle the rx has the best c6 engine in t
the world not. one ever had broken down ''''' now that's some record 'it's the Lexus rx for me
love it
why doesn't lexus make all their SUVs look like the RX?
