It’s dumb for people to get mad about people in story’s that are versions or adaptations of a person who are seen as evil in there religion… I feel like most of the hate comments you will probably get are from people who don’t have a ton of reading comprehension.

Edit: Watched the video and totally agree. I remember once in class I was criticizing mormonism for being really cult-y and shit, and using manipulative tactics trying to get you to stay, (they literally used to send me chocolate to my house attempting to convince me to come back after me and my family left years ago) and a teacher overheard and got mad at me and said something like “Imagine saying that about muslims! That’s so rude! Respect peoples religion blah blah blah” and I couldn’t help but be so confused, religion should not be “exempt” from criticism
I have yet to watch the video but I must say the thumbnail is PHENOMENAL

    someone finally said it!!! :3
i was taught to mindlessly practice islam when i was younger and i never truly bought it.
during the last few years, i felt mad at myself for questioning what was supposedly the "truth" and forced myself to watch shitty islamic videos telling ppl that muslims who believe that gays dont deserve to be called "propraganda" and deserve as much respect as the straights to be evil, since i supported the community.
i always found it ridiculus but i still watched them and even commented support on some videos and it gave me loads of internalized homophobia.
early this year i snapped out of it and left but i was forced to be a hypocrite and pretend to remain muslim since leaving would get me fucking executed bc of "blasphemy laws".
i am currently secretly agnostic and have discovered my identity as a pansexual demigirl and have been harassed by those i thought i could trust to be told for my beliefs.
they say that their religion is a way of peace when it just gave me suffering and guilt. its pathetic honestly!!
thankfully i have one supportive religious friend and im thankful, she gave me hope for this shitty religion :)

As a norse pagan I'm not afraid to make jokes about it or even poke fun at the gods. If you're gods don't have a since of humor then it's boring. Also the idea that making a joke out of religion is disrespectful is definitely a Christian idea. As an ex mo i remember people getting so upset about jokes about jesus or whatever.

As a person who is at least trying to read through Christian texts I support the message about how no religion should be able to be protected from satire… but if it’s not Anti-Christian to make parody’s of Christianity, then it’s not Anti-Muslim to make parody’s of Islam or Anti-Semitic to make parody’s of the story’s in Judaism

As a trans Pagen I think there's definitely a power inbalance at play here. Ofc my belief can be teased and made satire of, but I think there's a different between mocking a Religion that is basically turning our country into a Theocracy and a relatively small and individual practice. "Satire" that just negative stereotype will do harm on my community, same thing with like Trans right. Unlike Christianity which doesn't really matter. Having Critical media of it isn't going to change half of our government. It the rule of comedy is to punch up. I would love a real satire of my community but It's just the same negative stereotypes that fuels discrimination and not very fun assumptions about us.

while i still think pagan religions are equally as subject to satire i do think it needs to be done more carefully than christian focused for sure. i dont think pagan religions are any more real or inherently deserving of respect just like any other religion, but it as a minority religion it can absolutely be harmful to not be mindful about what your goal is in creating it and how people may take the contents of the work and apply it to real people.
i think the silly kinda "drawing my fursona over jesus" thing would be just as applicable to pagan gods but something like the musical i mentioned or a TV show episode, or things like skits and the like, should be done with that understanding, as they often satirize the people who believe it as well as the religion itself self (and even in that case many people have misconceptions about paganism being satanic kr sacrificing people/animals or the like, which shouldnt be played into either)

I am someone of religion, but I’m not catholic or Christian, I forgot the name of it lmao, but basically the whole point of the religion is people who believe in god, that’s really it they let both male and female teach, they don’t care what community you are a part of [different religion, lgbtq+ etc] they are just people who believe in god, and seeing what some other religions are like is, well kinda hateful. I’ve seen so many people of religion like “if your gay you should go to hell” like doesn’t your Bible say to love one as thy neighbor… you are really showing that lmao.
But honestly I feel like religion or not you shouldn’t harass someone for not believing in god it’s their choice let them live their own life. I even went to a catholic school due to me being bullied at my own school and we had no other options sadly, they definitely treat those who don’t have the same religion as them differently. I was forced to do things I wasn’t comfortable with, it was the two worst years of my life.
I’m not saying you can’t do those things because I don’t like it, but they were straight up forceful to me.
[sorry for the long comment lol but I also gotta say love your art and having your lil bean as Jesus made me laugh so hard lol]

It's really kind of funny because this is something I can relate to really hard. I am gay, effeminate, autistic, atheist, and from Texas. All disablities I can find humor in the satire of. It is kind of important for mental health. You are not a special star. I think this is a weird ability to know where there is satire and legitimate hate speech that is "anti-(x)" Satire is not anti-whatever in a hateful way.
If you want to satirize me... okay. I am not just an American but from Texas the most Amarica of all Amarica because we are so Amarica that we want to succeed and be the only _real_ Amarica.

I think its fine to criticize and question religion but religion is a way of life. Questioning religion can help you have a better understanding of it. By saying there's no evidence you're forgetting about the Bible, miracles, the Quran, etc. I understand many people will disagree (even predicted in the Bible). Anyway, you said that "religion is in it's special little category" but that's because it affects how we live. Our lives (as Christians) basically revolve around it. The decisions we make too. Religion will be challenged like how Jesus was with these "priests" when he was alive. I doubt religion will never be criticized and made fun of. Also the Bible is compiled of various letters and documents of events that happened overtime from different people. Even several things from the Bible are related to the Quran. I think people got mad at your drawing because The Last Supper is a holy event before Jesus was crucified so it has much value to us. It was when he was alive and knew Judas, his friend, would betray him. There's much truth in religion (though some are misguided) because it shows us how to live the best way possible. I don't speak for all religions, mainly just Christianity. I know this probably won't change anything but I just wanted to tell you. Sorry for the essay I just wanted to explain. Have a good day and God bless!

    • @godlesssnowshoe
      @godlesssnowshoe  6 месяцев назад +5

i am not foregetting about holy texts or miricales. holy texts are not evidence in the slightest of any god. the are often mutally exclusive from each other, (even the bible and quran as muslims believe jesus to be a prophet while christians belive him to be the son of god/ be god), have no other substantial scientific or even historical support for them, and are extreamly biased by nature. they are functionally only useful in discussions around hypothetical theology and understanding religious veiws as a social construct, not as an kind of meaningful representation of truth.
as for miracles, i have 0 reason or evidence to belive they exist. saying a thing is a miracle because you dont understand it (and when it often has a rational explantion instead) is not proof of anything except ignorance of the person proclaiming it is one.
things described as miracles in modern times are often actually the result of either explainable natural prosses, or the underappricated hard work of people like doctors and scientists, they strip away the gratutude of hardworking smart people- to gift it to an unproven god. its scummy. and miracles in holy texts? theres absoutly no evidence they even happened at all.
also, plenty of beliefs greatly impact how people live their lives. i am vegetarian, it affects my entire realtionship with food. i am a leftist, boycotting pretty much every major corporation atm due to my political beliefs effects everything from where i buy my groceries, what movies ill watch, what soap i use, what pet food i buy, what artists i listen to, etc.
the list goes on. ALL beliefs impact the way people live their lives. some of those beliefs are just more grounded in reality than others.
religion having more influnce then others is not even nessasrily an excuse because a large portion of that influnce is something i actually discuss in the video- its a control tactic and manipulation to keep people indoctrinated. if youre constantly focused on your religion youre given to time or opportunity to question it, and even if you were, to do so would be distrupting your current way of life entierly. if anything, thats cause to further distrupt it and place a higher level of focus on breaking those behviours and mindsets that are used to keep people indoctrinated. not a reason its fundemntally excused.
i know people are mad because its a "holy event". the PROBLEM is that other people are not required to agree it was a holy event, that it happened at all, or that the belief in those things has some form of inherint value. i think it likley didnt happen, and if it did it was meaningless, and i do not see even a grain of sand's ammount of value in christianity. so i am in no way obligated to pretend isee value in it for the comfort of other people echochamber's remaining intact. that is the entier point of the video.
also "it shows us the best way to live possible" according to who? if its according to anyone in your holy book then thats a meaningless statment to anyone whos irreligious or a part of a different religion than you. im quite happy with the way i live, and i have done a lot of good things in my life. i see no value in subscribing to the type of nuance devoid black and white morality presented in the bible. its simplistic and dumb, and often outwardly harmful in cases that REQUIRE NUANCE.
i see no value in any of the rules about purity. i never want to marry, i have a same sex partner. i have safe sex and am perfectly happy in that and its in no way hurt me or anyone else.
i see no value in the black and white-ness of some rules. even rules like respecting your parents leaves little room for situations in which parents are abusive or unfair. when my dad has a shit poltical take im gonna tell him its a shit political take, so maybe realize hell hes wrong and not go spew it to other people. when he yells at me over nothing im not gonna sit and obey him and be nice, im gonna tell him to get the fuck out of my apartment.
HELL murders not even always wrong- what about self defense? what about killing an abuser or a rapist? is it wrong to kill an offending pedophile? is it wrong to preform assisited sucide on a willing terminal patient as a physician?
not to mention the slew of just shitty rules, such as being allowed to beat your slaves so long as they can get back up, women cant teach, if you lust for someone youve commited adultry in your heart, etc.
i see no value in the way the bible teaches people to live. its outdated, simplistic, and i detest it. there is no way to prove it is a suprior way to live without envoking a god you lack any real evidence for and that i see no reason to believe in let alone worship.

yup let me take life advice from religious books
especially the one that says (and i quote)
"A rxped woman cannot marry until she has restored herself by three menstrual periods"

Or the part in Sunan Abi Dawud -> Prescribed Punishments
Where a man rxpes a women, then the WOMAN has to stand before allah and allah just says "go away, for allah has forgiven you"
forgiven for what? What did SHE do wrong? She did nothing wrong.
