People underestimate how useful one handed operation is. I have a really old model where the pliers slide out. I beat the hell out of that thing. Might scoop this one up.
@@antonyjharper31 it’s a really old gerber. My dad gave it to me to try out in the 90’s. He ran a tool distribution business and a rep wanted him to stock them. I used it later in telecom, in concrete, wiring up load cells while hanging upside down on cement silos, in doing PM’s for lab equipment. Thing has probably travelled more than most people ever will….it’s enjoying a cushy retirement in my office. 😂
I don’t own a multitool other than a cheap ozark trail… I doubt I’ll ever use it, but I’m a knife guy, and got a deal on Thanksgiving/blackfriday.. A magnacut knife alone is easily worth $100+. With all the other tools $189 seemed like a great price so I ordered the arc and figured I got one of the best multitools available but I do ever need it. Great video, great info
Unfortunately the Arc Obsidian isn’t sold in Germany so I can only get the normal one, which is still nice. But the dark theme on the Arc looks lovely.
One handed use on all tools is definitely underestimated. The other thing is the mod community for the leatherman arc is beyond awesome and easy. So if you do want to make this tool your own it becomes easy with this platform without actually voiding warrenty. You can have 5 long slots on it where I traded the can opener for a comb. Then I eventually added a surgical blade holder. Also grabbed tweezers, and a pen/pin combo to hold under the scissors. Yeah more money but hey, its my tool and I use it at work everyday. Love it.
It looks very nice, and Magnacut is enticing, but I’ll save my money and use my P4. Seems identical without looking at all the specs. Thanks for the review and keep it up!
I couldn't agree more with you on the review. I love my obsidian, but I love my original ARC too. (still switch back and forth) My P4 was used and abused everyday and I'd highly recommend the P4 to anyone as long as it's still available somewhere. (I bet they'll bring it back once sales start to cool down a bit with the ARC"
I have a P4 and couldn't decide which to carry between that and my old Wave. The usable pocket clip was usually the deciding factor for the P4 if I wasn't expecting to need the bit driver. The Arc bridged those two tools in all of the right ways for me. I don't know why anyone outside of collectors would have chosen the Obsidian. The regular Arc comes with a more useful sheath, and the older that I get, the less I care about black gear.
my only question is how much did the p4 end up costing after getting mods for it? I modded my p4 as well but for a little more i could get basically what i modded in my p4 and still have the warranty with leatherman going with the arc. Also the thumb studs i got for the p4 fit in the arc so that was a nice bonus. If anything does happen to my arc, i can send it in for warranty and pull out my p4 again for work while it's getting fixed.
Why would anyone assume a tool will fit in a sheath when the tool has a pocket clip? In other words, do you need a clip if you carry the tool in a sheath? (Remove the clip then see how it fits). Love these malti-tool reviews tho X!
I just want it and the arkfeld ultra because i already carry the base arv and arkfeld pro. And both of those new ones match so well together. Ik what im gonna buy if i ever have the chance to again later and something happens to my current ones
I don't know if I will every reach "too much edc". I like rediscovering things that I collected, jammed in a drawer or bag and forgot about like 17 variations on a plier knife combo.
for me watching tv deploying the tools all i need. nice x- mas present even non tool users know it's top line. sheath, yep soak it up put in 2 -3 wrenches overnight. lastly it is for everyone just the price isn't.
The wire stripper is on the Awl. The gap in the cutter is bad design. Anyone who says otherwise is wrong. Leatherman has a diagram of each tool pointing out the location and function of each implement. The gap is not a tool, it's a mistake.
Definitely agree the arc could be “one and done” it’s a bit over done but as a leatherman sheep or collector/user it’s pretty epic. Also how I know you didn’t watch my arc video… you put the bits in backwards lol 😂 I think I’m the only one that has shown the best way to ensure the electric will last longer (I also don’t use the sheeth tho)
Leatherman doesn't sell the "Obsidian" version of the Arc anymore. If you're a collector, you can still find a few at some 3rd party sites. But on their site, they don't exist anymore. If you were on the fence about it, just buy it before even the third parties sell out.
Its just one of those things man. I’ve always considered multi tools a good option for when nothing better is around. No tool like this is completely 100% better than their standalone counterparts. Not even the knife. I carry 2 excellent multi tools with me on a daily basis at work and im considering carrying 3. Still lighter than carrying the regular tool equivalent, but not better. I broke my wave plus. I broke the flat head. No big deal. But when the pliers broke, i sent it in. We shall see in leatherman fixes or replaces it. If they do, then the lifetime warranty is worth it. If not, i will probably never buy one again. If they do… might be worth a look to have this luxury item. I can afford it. Lol
STAY AWAY from Leatherman. I paid them $240 for an Arc and paid extra to engrave my name on it, only to get the item and it looks like the engraving was done by a 3 year old. When I called them, they were snooty and only offered the $12 engraving fee back. The item is horrible looking with the engraving, as is their customer service.
@MarineX They're not available here in Canada on Amazon for unless you go aftermarket dealer for $230. The Arc was $300 at house of knives. I can justify the extra $70 because I don't carry a pocket knife, and I'm a carpenter/handyman that uses my Leatherman everyday. 5 or more times a day.

@@flavio-p I have a Supertool 300. I love it but the one handed operation of the Arc is sooooo convenient.
The obsidian is sold out
@ Everywhere. Some sites said discontinued too. Have to hang back for a bit.
Send the old one in for warranty I got a new wave after 18 years of killing it!

The wave is probably the best tool I’ve ever bought! I snapped the knife and sent it in after !8 years of use and they sent me a new one!
Excellent review. The P2 served me well so I grabbed the P4 while still available.
The tools on the Arc Obsidian seems very solid and I love the dark colors used for this multi tool 😎
I got a sidekick, and so far, I love it. It's been really useful

Nice review! I skipped the obsidian since I already bought the arc at release.
Appreciate the honest, reasonable review.
I picked one of these up and I like it a lot. It's definitely overkill for my needs, but that's better than the alternative.
Great episode thank you. 👍
This Leatherman may not be needed, but I do like nice things
It looks very nice, and Magnacut is enticing, but I’ll save my money and use my P4. Seems identical without looking at all the specs. Thanks for the review and keep it up!
I’m jealous they discontinued the champagne color

How did or what did you use to clean it with the black coating? How is your knife so snappy did you Losen the screws? Thanks

The sheath you get with the regular arc is better
Another day another upload
Let’s go!
Also the thumbstuds were such a genius addition
@@vitalitydoesstuff3603 I agree. I went Arc instead of Arc Obsidian. Still a beautiful tool
I love my freeP4, can't sell me on an "up grade" my P4 and do all that.
I’m good with my Skeletool, I also own the free P4 but too heavy for my pocket
I’ve had used and carried my wave+ daily for about 4 years now no idea what the leatherman pinch is but I can open my wave+ one handed with ease

I would add "people who are capable of not losing a multitool" to the list of who it's for....keep that thing for life & the cost-per-use won't be bad
What about comfort? Is it comfort in the hand?

Do you carry the multi toll weak side or no

Semper fi!
How come I couldn’t get hold of this on leatherman website for the past 2 months? Do I need to sign up to some membership or something
The obsidian is a collectors pice and as such sold out immediately. You can still get the normal Arc.
Aaaaaaand it's gone!
I dropped my original arc on concrete the other day, not a single scratch on it.
Not sure the obsidian would've looked so good after that drop.

I contacted Leatherman. The said either way is fine. I found it to be worse with the micro part up
@ I like to slde it bits facing the back of the sheeth so they don’t catch the elastic. From what little I’ve used it that seems to be best for me
Bottom line up front…. Now that’s a military man!
Thx for the once over. Not in my $ range

Yeah it’s hard to justify the price when I can buy 2 wave + for the price of the ARC. great tool tho
And it's discontinued
I couldn’t justify buying the standard Arc. So the Arc Obsidian was a definite no.
Just sale your other ones and by the arc its super nice
It’s nice but not for me.
Can't justify the price.
Should have not used it they now selling for double price! but personally i respect those that bought it to use it as it should be
