I have them both, my arc lives in my edc pouch for after work and my surge lives on my belt at work. For context I work on heavy civil construction- bridges, roads & trains or subways as a supervisor I’m walking around large sites constantly. The surge gets me out of a pinch on a daily basis and keeps me from walking miles back to the tool shed or work truck for a random quick task. Love the video X keep up the good work! 🫡🦅🇺🇸

The surge specific pocket clip makes a huge difference. I removed the lanyard loop on my surge to allow space on the opposite side of the surge for the pocket clip so that the orientation is correct for tip up, right hand carry.

I am a Leatherman Surge girl. I use it on the farm daily. I do have to sharpen the knife, but I usually have another knife as someone is always borrowing one from me as well. It's come in handy when I have literally picked up work at trade shows I am attending when people need help putting up and tearing down their booths and it does great with zip ties and screwing together the stands and I do it as fast as a man with a drill and they can't believe it. Cuts strings on hay. Fixes vacuums in the home. Puts door knobs on. Once my kids doctor even came out to find me fixing their desk in the lobby while they were waiting because I still had my tool on me. . .desk was driving me nuts!!!
Aftermarket parts for a screwdriver insert that holds the tiny glasses screwdriver, but I also have a glasses screwdriver in my home.
Wear on my belt or in my pokey things pocket in my overalls on the pocket clip.
After 6 years of use I have zero problems with opening the Surge with one hand and opening the knife with one hand, even in work gloves.
I like being able to use the Surge and get the tools with my gloves still on.
It has never opened or hurt me when on my belt or in my overalls with the tools on the inside when I have come off of a horse. Never snagged on anything or wrecked clothes or fencing.

The “pry bar” flat head on the surge is tuff but no way a pry bar. I snapped it prying something open. I used a lot of force but it did snap. The warranty got me an another. I carried it since it came out only replaced it with the roxon flex. I used belt clip and sheath over the years and like both carries.
Weight would be the only issue now, but if I know I need something robust and tough, surge all the way.
I’m sure the arc is everything, but I can’t justify 230plus (not on sale) on a tool I’d be afraid to abuse.
That said I’m a new subscriber, and enjoying your content.

With the arc you get that one hand opening motion and there’s so much customization it’s crazy! But the downside is it’s overpriced and you can pretty much get a surge with all of the goodies like the bits/driver and the sheath for like the same price so it really comes down to do you really need magna cut on your blade and do you really need it to open one handed? I carry so many different folders now I’m starting to feel like as much as I want to buy the arc, I might just buy the charge or something a little cheaper and buy the bundle so I get more of my moneys worth

I still feel Leatherman is...missing the mark? They never seem to have the exact tools I want - and are usually more tools off the mark than other multi-tool carrying tools (pick any brand, SAK to direct competitors of Leatherman).
A multi-tool is ideal companion for those in the tech field from my experience, and I carry a Wave+ my wife gifted me last Christmas, and it's frustratingly off in the toolset some days. Drop the serrated blade and the saw for the more substantial scissors and tool exchanger and replace the mini scissors in the internal space with the awl and it's basically the perfect midweight, general purpose multitool. The blade grind is weird, but workable when it's mainly used for packaging.
Your point on the blade shape does make me realize they got that correct on the Arc - that shape with a thumb stud should become the standard on all their stuff moving forward. I also think their medium-sized flat screwdriver could use a bit of reworking to make the edge a bit thinner so it's easier to wedge into stuff you're working with (in my common use-case, electronics that have metal shells - stuck access panels murder your fingers whether it's a full-sized tower or a micro PC).

You must do pretty light work. I had two Arcs. Neither one inspired much confidence on the ranch, at work, or working on the motorcycle. Major frame flex when using the drivers, awl, and pliers, blades wouldn't take or hold an edge because the heat treat is too soft, and 3 sets of wire cutters broke on fence wire which even Gerber's carbide cutters cut like butter. The Obsidian's scissors also wouldn't even cut thread. I'll take my P4, Surge, OHT, or Charge over the Arc any day

    • @SMS2884
      @SMS2884 21 день назад

@@dualsportoutdoors I mean do you also baton with a folder? 🤔. A Surge is definitely more suited for more robust work. But I wouldn't exactly carry that for EDC. To each their own. I prefer the ARC for single hand and ease of use.

@@SMS2884 I have batoned a folder in a survival situation when I foolishly went into the woods without my fixed blade because I thought I'd be fine since I was only going to be out for an hour. The Spyderco PM2 I carried that day still functions fine. That being said, I don't generally baton folders. I save that for my fixed blades and even then it's only usually light batoning for making notches. I'd rather use my Mora hatchet or my CRKT Woods Kangee tomahawk

STAY AWAY from Leatherman. I paid them $240 for an Arc and paid extra to engrave my name on it, only to get the item and it looks like the engraving was done by a 3 year old. When I called them, they were snooty and only offered the $12 engraving fee back. The item is horrible looking with the engraving, as is their customer service.
