      I feel the same way. Breaking it all down as a knife maker these prices are way bloated. Companies are getting greedier and greedier. I understand times have been tough and we've all had to raise our prices a bit, but some of these companies margins are absurd.

      There’s still plenty of budget options out there that work great, but like any hobby out there, the internet has made a ton hobbyists who care about really small details and will pay tons of money to get them. The average person who just wants a decent knife to cut stuff in day to day life can ignore most of this, keep using cheap knives and just replace them every few years as needed. I say this as one of the those dumb knife snobs lol

    • @Khrenan
      @Khrenan Месяц назад

      @@k0pper yup. Most (all of them) of my ridiculously expensive knifes are way under used and i would not even use them heavily because sharpening supersteel takes so long xD. I carry one always and its nice to have a nicely shaped knife thats not trash material but i still feel like the price is artificial. Even the "cheap" and "budget friendly" knives from normal steel are 80€$ and if you tell any normal person about an 80$ knife they think you are retarded for paying that much for something a 8$ knife can do. They cant even imagine that there are 300$ or 500$ knives. Because its completely silly. But i still got one

      Wish it had more flat on the blade, the way it's designed really only works for cutting on a board, so great for food prep, less great for cardboard and rope. If only Spyderco would make a fixed blade PM2 I'd buy 5 of those and never buy another knife in my life.

    My EDC fixed-blade is a 1950s-era Imperial Prov RI hunting knife with a bakelite handle and the original leather sheathe. You have to keep it stupidly clean because of the steel composition, but it's a great knife all around. A bit bigger than some areas may allow at almost 9 inches. 😅 I put my belt through the sheathe slot and then let the sheathe sit in my pocket.

    A real budget option would be the Schrade Delta Class Adder with a 2.75" AUS10 blade and injection molded sheath. Don't know what that sheath looks like. I sometimes carry its predecessor, the Schrade SCHF66 that has 7Cro17MOV steel and a nylon sheath. The old nylon sheath has a belt loop but I always just put the whole thing in a pocket, not suitable for jeans but looser cargo pants with multiple pocket options, which is what I usually wear these days, makes it easy to carry in a pocket.

    I carry an Esee Xancudo, no clip, just slide in the pocket, and draw with a thumb push. The molded sheath doesn't have the kydex width bloat, and clipless there is no handle sticking out as some kind of prepper fashion statement. For shallower pockets I switch to an Esee Izula, the skeletonized version that I cord wrapped, feather weight.

    I love the pocket fixed blade movement, buuuuuuuuuuuut, how is a folder less dependable?
    In the last 15 years, cutting root balls, scraping gaskets, trimming drip line, and skinning squirrels, I've never had an issue opening my "flippers".
    Yes, they've been crunchy but never failed to open or lock, and after cleaning, always run smoother.
    Can we just say fixed blades are another option for those that have extra pocket space, or those big enough that can carry a fixed comfortably while driving/bending?
