Other than being an important figure for all Scriabinists (Occasionally questionable comments), Sabaneyev is also a fantastic composer that unfortunately does not get the recognition that he deserves
I have inherited a Sabaneev's book "Scriabin" from 1916 from my grandfather, who wanted to become a composer in his youth, which did not happen. Read it in my early 20's with not much effect. Discovered Scriabin's music in my 30's, and now revisiting it in my 50's (pure genius what more can I say). Recently read other Sabaneev's books - another (Memoirs) about Scrabin, "Memories of Russia" and now reading the one about Taneev. Written in a beautiful Russian language, in great style, in a pure and simple way, all his books and articles are true gems. He was a great talent, beautiful writer, friend and composer. He writes about all the people he knew (from Tsar Alexander III to his friend Scriabin) with such warmth kindness and humor only a few memoir writers could. (Irina Odoevtseva's memoirs come to mind). His Scriabin's Prometheus arrangement for 2 pianos is a second to none!
Ah yes I'm glad you posted this one... I missed it on RUclips; Never gets old. I also quite like your description "sublime, dramatic, nebulous world"... The final pages of this work are, to me, as close as one can get to a metaphysical reality through the mere sound of a piano. Sort of like a Mahler symphony or (quite obviously) a Scriabin sonata, but taken to its darkest and most catastrophically introspective extremes.
Monumental indeed! One hearing is not enough to fully digest a monument of this size. I can see why he decided to dispense with a key signature: he might well have done the same with the time signatures, which are also more honoured in the breach than the observance ;-). Bravo to the performer: if I hadn't heard it with my own ears I would have thought the passage round 2:40 almost unplayable. Thanks for posting!
In its bitonality it seems to resemble the black mass sonata. It is interesting, but very difficult, I don't know if this an ideal interpretation. Thank you for sharing.
Gorgeous music! Helped the late19th century define itself aswell as early confused20th.I'd think learning it was well worth the labor!I loved this and the2ndmovement15thminute outScriabins in texture Scriabin..Nebulous and mists is right and perhaps this is why Scriabin too is only known to pianists and classical music devotees unlike Schumann or Prokofiev (everyone has heard something of these 2 even if all they know is rap and circus radiomusic.Solimited this music and I haveto check out the composer/Fantastic world but I myself as a composer see it as irresponsible to only mine in a single island.Thankyou for making the music and especially the fantastic and imaginative score ahain available .This is very good OLDmusic(nothing NEW here or earth shattering like Prokofiev2nd and 3rd Sonatas .It is reminiscent of Scriabin but also showing some post1920 sound developments but this music is stuck in 1906! Of course compared to Prokofiev oldfashioned structured Sonatas but new sarcastic and completely20th centutycontent Boulez and Messiaen or even Ravelbig piano worksor the Debussy etudes it ONLY looks to the past and really may not have a lot to offer anyone who lived later thanWW1.
Finally one has to ask oneself about all that self-addressed poetry and music sometimes linear as this is sometimes not .Can it be reckoned with by an audience in the concert hall ? The final pages are so ruminative yet it makes sense at the end of the journey . I prefer excitement of Scriabin 5 for concert hall . I think a multitude of directions have been taken in incommunicability in music this last century . Not sure about this or New Complexity or a lot of music I have devoted myself too . Mozart's string quintets never bore but one needs a difference that german living composer Georg Haas and Elliott Carter are just too far out for most !
I know what you mean.We need music that approaches how we live in the 20th and 21st century. BolcolmVine,Wuorinen etc. It's all necessary. On 2nd listen I find this music very communicative. The piano writing is not as inventive as Scriabin is from as early as the first prelude we etudes but I must find more from this composer.
@@MrInterestingthings I think that it is difficult to compare Sabaneev and Scriabin, as the two have very distinct styles. I would, however, not say that Sabaneev is less inventive than Scriabin. I think this work is more grand in scope than most of Scriabins sonatas, if not all. That is not to say that this work is superior in quality, but just that is of a different class. I think the amount of thought that has gone into every note of this piece is astonishing. Everything in this piece is meticulous, although it may not appear so at first. Many works of this grand scale will sound more repetitive, but this never does to me. It is, as many others have said, monumental
This piece just sounds like aimless meandering through haunting chords which stumble upon some climactic moments at times. The "luminoso" section is probably the best part of all of this.

thank you! I was searching for that video and realized it was removed
i think it came back

I get some serious "Vers la flamme" vibes with this sonata. Thanks for uploading!
True....a rather Sensational Tour-de-Force.....BRAVO, Maestro Schäfer....from Mexico City!
I doubt there will be a "In Memory of Sabaneyev" piano sonata.
oh ill try my best to make sure you are wrong

Well, hello Mr.Pisanu
Hello Davide 2

classic sabaneyev 14:06-15:22
Indeed
15:15 is apocalyptic
Amazing, grotesque, strange, winged, terrorsurging, raving-dancing, sudden-collapsing, delirant, celestially-voluptuous, blinking-25-note-chordesque, universal-heat-deadly...
I want to die!! (Of joy)
I readed Book, and also sabaneyev spoke when he writed pieces like mozart. But this wery good work
first class sonata

Scriabin would have loved this.

I kinda disagree that mozart never bores; it's the exact reason I prefer this kind of music.

Epic
How the f**k one can learn this by heart?😃
Agreed!!! Have you checked out on YT Hamelin’s Yedidia 3rd sonata. Epic playing
This piece just sounds like aimless meandering through haunting chords which stumble upon some climactic moments at times.
The "luminoso" section is probably the best part of all of this.
based piece
Wow

Been wanting to revisit this, but still find it quite uninteresting, prefer the Preludes much more.

A me non viene in mente scriabin..
Sabaneyev ha uno stile che ricade molto più sul tetro e il funebre che sull'estasi cosmica di Scriabin.
🤮
So awful music as all Scriabin's one is...
