      Take a look at my dads 79 camaro pro street racing at my local track. Now that's a real car! Its on my channel under videos. His car isn't fully automatic, its a 2 speed automatic that you have to shift, hes got a b&m megashifter in it, drop it down into 1 then 2 then drive.

    • @TheRoguelement
      @TheRoguelement 6 месяцев назад

      Well Bro first off his shifter is way to short second 4th gear is way way to far away from 3rd and he shifts his car like My sister used to shift .. Has this guy ever seen anyone power shift ? Or does he even know anyone who rows a 4 sp ? He 100% should be using the Comp plus shifter and NOT the short straight version of the Super shifter he is literally leaned over and down trying to negotiate the H pattern ...

    A fabulous treat to see the tach at and + 7000 rpm's (not really very comonplace today}. an obviousy superbly built assembly in all aspects. Great classic example of true street/strip America when Detroit ruled.

    That Chevelle sounds sweet!!! Forget automatic, a 4 speed is the way to go!! Love to hear it go through the gears!! Hope you got it running again!!

    Just stumbled across this video. I had a '69 Chevelle from about 1992 until about 1998. Drag raced it almost every weekend. Car had 17,000 miles on it and most were 1/4 mile at a time. It was a COPO replica and had a 427 that was an IHRA A stock national record holder before I owned it so the suspension had been gone over very well. Car hooked hard. I bought just the body and frame off John Kunsak and threw a stock LS5 with powerglide and 3.73's and ran 12.96. Threw a THM400 and 4.10's and ran 12.95...lol. Built a 468 with factory square port heads, 850 Holley and a Lunati .685/.692 lift roller with .269/.276 duration at .050. Power range was 3800-7500. Put an 8" ATI 4500 stall in it with a 9" rear with Moser axles and ran 11.69@116 but had a miss. Ended up breaking a lifter before I got it dialed in and I sold the car. It would pull the front wheels about 10-12" off the ground and carry them about 25'. It was 100% street legal and even pulled the front wheels on the street with MT street tires. Loved that car but it wasn't fun to drive on the street with the roll bar and no back seat. Having kids that didn't work so well...lol

  • @Amysmann
    @Amysmann 2 года назад

    This 68 had both front wheels off the strip launching! That is still bad ass for the street. Always loved high revving big block bow ties. Always will. Peace

    I get it man....im a big fan of proline racing(low 4 sec cars) .if u wanna win u need a auto and stall. And no ..I wouldn't race that car either. ..its a classic. We agree on that....but I still enjoy hearing that rock crusher banging gears...I like the video. ..and love the fact he got out their and didn't quit.

  • @primus2010

    I love watching someone bang gears down the track, it's a shame to see that the sport isn't as stick friendly as it used to be, but in my eyes those slapping gears down the strip are the ones really driving their cars, great video!

  • @427ImportEater
    @427ImportEater  12 лет назад +1

    @zxtenn I am aware of block plates and no it would not have saved everything. I bought this shield used almost 30 years ago, and I didn't get the block plate with it. The chunks of flywheel caught the clutch fork hole and spun the bell housing, which tore all the bolt holes off the back of the block as well as knocking both corners off due to the solid dowel pins. My new scatter shield came with one.

    • @davidkeeton6716
      @davidkeeton6716 2 года назад

      Ouch, yeah that was expensive. I loved my 4 speed on the street, but if you were going to run this regularly, a transbrake poweglide would have put this car in the high 10s and been consistent. And if you got a good transmission more reliable and easier on the engine.

  • @427ImportEater
    @427ImportEater  13 лет назад +1

    @WS6LS 4.88s work well with this combo because they put it through the traps at 7000-7200, right where the motor likes to be. The car weighs around 3750

  • @orlandotech
    @orlandotech 12 лет назад

    Awesome! It's a good thing you didn't get hurt when that flywheel let go. Must of had a scattershield. Keep posting these cool vids up.

    When you get tired of losing all the time you should install a turbo 400, trans brake, 4500 stall and a line lock.

  • @427ImportEater
    @427ImportEater  12 лет назад

    @johnyups Your wrong actually. The wheels appeared to hop once in the burnout, never done that before or since. The flywheel was a cast unit, and was never intended to have 625 horse through it. That was the reason for failure.

  • @overkillcustoms

    Enjoy the videos, nice work. Ran a 904 case Super T10 for years behind my 427 and had to freshen it up seemed like every year. Finally was able to save up and get a faceplated liberty 5 speed and love it. Rowin gears and doing it the hardway FTW!!!

  • @Justaintthere

    This is a easy 10 second car with the proper setup. I think if you got a little more wheel speed on the launch you would get out of the whole a lot quicker. Gotta make those tires work. What rear gear are you running?

  • @KnuckleBabys
    @KnuckleBabys 12 лет назад

    @427ImportEater Because when you launch you are lurching or hopping I guess I should say. What rears are you running now? my experiences have shown with a manual transmission a taller gear is ideal for out of the hole during launch. How much street driving do you do with it?

    it looked like it was coming around really good about the time it broke!! fast stick cars get old real quick unless you have the money for all the big money trans and clutch setups. i know, I've broke my car every time I've went to the track with a clutch pedal. Good Luck!!

    Love the car, although I'm a little biased, I've got a '68 myself. At 1:23 it looks like you could benefit from a slightly longer shift lever, easy $40 fix from Hurst. That's an easy 10.80 car with some more suspension work, love it! After Favoriting your videos, I guess I've decided on Silver versus the Black that's been creepin' into my mind. Subscribing......

      A Longer Stick wouldn't
      hurt either he could get Order the Super shifter straight Long ..and maybe a bigger rear slick .. like say 10.5 or even the 11 inch M/H Race master

  • @427ImportEater
    @427ImportEater  13 лет назад

    @chevellehotell it could, but the dyno showed this motor makes power up high, and its the bottom end were hurting. We pick up around 28-30mph from the 1/8 to the quarter, which is quite alot

  • @ThePleza

  • @stevesolo16

    Transmission failure? If so, time to go automatic! 4l60e, 700r4, turbo400 with taller rear end gears and the right converter, you'd be in the 10's and could still cruise the interstate. Hey, I really enjoyed the videos. Hope to see ya back soon.

  • @genechaas7369
    @genechaas7369 10 лет назад +1

    427 can easily be overcammed, making the 60' anemic, like here. Or some thing close to a 5:1 rear end ratio. Stick cars dont have any TQ multiplication other than gears, and 3.76" stroke needs all the gear you can give it. 1/2 shift ought be before 60' mark. Nice vids, nice ride!

    Hi, i just read your reply, that is some serious bad luck, i have never heard of that happening-- so what now an aluminum flywheel? that think sounds oldschool awesome-- can't imagine driving something as radical on the street-- seems like you enjoy banging gears so auto is out?

  • @zxtenn

  • @mrdavisk43

    That should do it. Is it ready for the track? Would love to see the results. I might need to step it up to a 4.88 instead of the 4.56 I was considering. I played with the tire pressure (14 psi seemed to be a sweet spot). I got some spin but less bog and improved my 60 ft slightly. Best 60 was 1.69...I was at 119 mph in the traps. 11.61 et.

  • @zxtenn
    @zxtenn 12 лет назад

    11.6 and that 121 for a street car very impressive-- i had a yenko clone rs camaro with the 427/425 and 456 gears, just headers and stock solid cam with old holley 780, mid 12's at 110 but i only ran it a few times, 121 is some hp on the top end-- so what happened, the motor blew? Could it be fixed? that sucks and expensive-- is that a stock muncie as i wasnt sure if it could take that HP

    @KnuckleBabys 4.88s in it right now, car is on the street 99% of the time. The rear gear is correct for the car because it puts the motor at about 7200 through the traps. The first gear ratio is not ideal, however. It would benefit from a 2.90 versus the 2.56 in the m20 right now.

  • @427ImportEater
    @427ImportEater  12 лет назад

    @KnuckleBabys Im launching when im ready, not paying any attention to the tree. Its test and tune, not reaction time practice. And how did you determine i need a different rear gear? Its actually right where it should be

  • @427ImportEater

    Oh yes it would have made a differnace for sure due to the straight cut gears, thicker gear teeth, and a higher nickle content only found in the m22 internals. a lower first gear with wider ratios is more vulnerable and this is the result. BIGGER IS BETTER!! ....again whats the HP you got in that bad boy??

  • @427ImportEater

  • @427ImportEater
    @427ImportEater  12 лет назад

    It was hitting the front end limiters, we eventually pulled em off. Its difficult to launch a stick car with a street clutch and to tall of a first gear. A first gear in the 2.90 range and a proper slidder clutch would knock the 1.70 60fts down to 1.4xx

  • @427ImportEater
    @427ImportEater  12 лет назад

    There is a few ways to fix the bog, we are making those changes right now. We are going with a 2.90 first gear ratio paired with the 4.88s already out back. The alternative would be a slipper clutch, however that would be to difficult to live with on the street. Thanks for the comment.

    I agree the suspension is definitely not optimal, but with only one track outing in the past 7 years its tough to work everything out in a few passes. However, I dont think you understand the purpose of the 3 step. I have a separate limiter set on the clutch pedal, so i can work up the launch consistently, and make it repeatable. Also, the new setup (gforce 4 speed, more race oriented sintered iron clutch) the car should leave much better out of the hole.

    The scattershield is definitely what saved me. However, the tranny, along with basically every drivetrain related part ahead of the rear end is being replaced. Wrecked the crank, block etc. I run pump gas on the street with a few degrees less timing etc, then at the track with open tubes I will run 112 just to be safe with the timing turned up.
