  • Thanks for watching, hopefully this video was helpful. I sometimes see stick shift drivers having a hard time at the track (mostly when staging). So I thought I’d make a video showing my routine, along with a few parts I believe are key to becoming more consistent. I would like to point out the example in this video is with a n/a car running a pro tree, so it will need to be slightly modified to fit your specific situation. Below are a few examples:
    Example 1
    If you have a turbo car running pro tree, everything would be the same except you would need to activate your two step in pre-stage to build boost, then bump in.
    Example 2
    If your bracket racing or just running a sportsman tree, everything would be the same except you wouldn’t need to activate the two step until the first of the three bulbs light.

    WOW! I'm saving this. So useful in so many different ways. I learned and I enjoyed the "ride along" (go pro).

    Thanks for the video, a lot of racers won’t share. I gettin a car ready and my only little bit of experience is with an auto trans. Manual should be a lot of fun if I can get some consistency and not break stuff. I’ve been puzzling over what parts are required and how it might work. I’m still studying on it but this video seem like some solid info. 👍

    That's why when I built my Monster it had to stay what it was when I purchased it brand new in '91 a stick shift...The T-5 has been long gone but when I put a Windsor 427ci motor with a Procharger F1A-94 in it I figured a Magnum T-56 built by G-Force was definitely needed

    How do you properly shift from 2nd to 3rd, without missing the gear. Do you guide the shifter yourself?

      I haven't missed third since I switched my hand position to palm down above the shifter for the 2-3 shift. Thumb up 1-2, palm down 2-3, thumb down 3-4. It will naturally make you push and pull towards the appropriate gate

      @@mumfordsgarage3407 same it's all on the positioning of your arm and elbow and hand. I backhand my 3 to 4 nowadays cus one time in a Acura RSX when I was alot younger money shifted from 3 back to 2 and I was redlining it hahaha

      Faceplated transmissions make for more accurate shifts as well. Wider engagement area compared synchronized transmissions.

    May be a dumb question, but what happens if you hit the button by accident while shifting once moving?

    • @freedomfighter1000
      @freedomfighter1000 2 года назад +4

      I think the only thing is that IF you apply your breaks, only fronts will operate for the time the button is depressed.

    • @larryp85
      @larryp85 Год назад

      You can add a switch so you wont accidentally engage it. With a switch you would have to have the switch on, brake pressed and hit line lock button to engage it.

    • @keithlarge1151
      @keithlarge1151 2 года назад +4

      Dragraced a stick car for many years in NHRA and ihra stock eliminator did 3rd gear burnout and never blew a clutch out. Doing a burnout without water would burn a clutch out in no time at all

    • @larryp85
      @larryp85 Год назад

      You are in the water box when you start the burn out. That eliminates the initial shock you are worried about

  • @shorty808100
    @shorty808100 2 года назад +2

    Wow he’s redlining big time that’s not good for the motor, and flat foot shifting is great but it tears up clutch’s but if your a good drag racer that’s not a big deal, and burnout should be done in 1st gear actually not the highest gear that also damages the motor
