Your review was the reason I bought one of these and outside of a few annoying quirks that will most likely be ironed out in the future, I regret nothing. Love this thing.
I sat with a friend who bought this product when it released. He eventually returned it due to numerous bugs in the hardware and software which limited the features of the product (Elgato also has this problem years after the Wave XLR's release so Rode isn't alone).
i have both and the wave xlr was giving me issues with their eq, so i just uninstalled the link software. it will also just not output any audio from my xlr mic and i’ll have to disconnect then reconnect it, honestly is prob just a windows thing. the rode is just used on my mac as an audio interface for my guitar and the software isn’t as intuitive as the elgato one in my experience, but it’s def working how i wanted. i see the appeal of having an all-in-one device, but for more competitive gaming and recording the other standalone capture cards that have 120+fps passthru is the way to go, but the dual usb is such a great feature if you use multiple computers, and there are plenty of cheaper interfaces out on the market for audio input, but i found my streamer x on sale for $100 and i couldn’t be happier at that price. i wouldn’t even have looked twice at it for its msrp
i bought that thing pretty early and I had high hopes. To be honest, it "looks" like it would be amazing. BUT, once I worked with it there were quite a few shortcomings that i found annoying. For starters the headphone out was just filthy sounding. Unusable for streaming live. Unless of course you love hearing awful noise while you stream. (I was using Rode headphones that came with the unit. But I tried plenty of other excellent headphones...still filthy) Not having an option to label the pads was also annoying. The video was also sketchy. Even after making certain that I had high end cables and was 100% for sure plugged into required USB the device still wouldnt always connect correctly to the camera. I returned it after a couple of weeks and went back to the trusty Elgato stuff. It was almost like they had someone who never streams at all design a device for streaming.
Been enjoying the StreamerX since I got it. I do hope that, in the next iteration, they have a second HDMI input and an on-off switch. Outside of that, if they could add a screen to show what the touch pads were mapped to do and 2 user-defined faders, that would tick off everything for my use case. (Maybe 1 more node for the EQ as well. I like having the option to have settings to adjust low, low-mid, upper-mid, and high-end).
The only things the Streamer X could really be better IMO would be 4k 120fps (matching newest iPhone 16 Pro) and possibly a second mic input (that could also be used with an instrument). So something closer to a dedicated audio interface with a (long awaited...) improvement in video streaming/recording resolution. I just purchased my Streamer X and still waiting for it to arrive, after watching many videos detailing problems I wonder if the USB 3.0 cable issue has ever been addressed in concern with some Macs that have Wi-Fi connectivity issues when USB 3.0 cables (of poor quality, especially hubs or extensions where female ends are near the WiFi antenna?) Maybe that's a separate issue and hasn't come up yet, but something to be aware of all the same.
Love the Røde Streamer X. I think the most impressive thing I have seen for live streaming this year is the Sony ZV-E10 II being able to output 4K 30fps via USB-C.
I just picked one up for $250 and testing it out. I am impressed by much of it but I am also having my shares of frustrations. I am coming from having used a Go XLR mini for years and finding various elements of the software super buggy. That being said I haven't seen another device that I feel is comparable particularly since I need Mac and Windows compatibility.
The features I wish it had: Support for a second wireless mic channel (yeah I know, but their wireless lav kits come in pairs), and line in and line out, because sometimes I need to tie in to venue PA systems. Great product and has worked flawlessly for me on both Windows and Mac.
I gave $72 for mine used. Still in the box. The guy selling it though it was broken because the USBC cable Rode sent was trash. Even used Rode sent me a new cable and it works perfectly. So for $72 it was a steal. I love it but I would have never given more than $150 new.
Please tell me whether I should buy this device? I need a capture card for the Console PS5 and a sound card, or is it better to take some go xlr mini and a nzxt 4k30 capture card?
the headphone outs are positively garbage. I returned my unit for a number of reasons but had everything else been perfect I'd still have returned it purely on the god awful sound of the headphone out. In no world where audio is designed should anyone ever, in a million years, allow something that sounds like that, to be shipped. It's as if they had an intern travel back in time to steal the output diagrams from some Behringer headphone amp from 1982. yeah, its that bad by todays standards.
Do you think we will see an updated version of the Streamer X? Or not anytime soon now that they released Rodecaster Video. What features would you want on ver. 2?
Elgato is the other unicorn in innovation with a similar ora, I think. The stream deck is hit, but there seems to be a missing link. In my opinion, on the software side, they should focus on partnering with hardware manufacturers for stronger and better integration. It's a powerful platform, but only geeks would take benefit of it, it's too open for the average person. Maybe create more original profiles for most popular applications.
I bought streamer x few months ago, using as capture card and audio mixer for my laptop stream and ps5 stream, tomorrow i will build a new pc, i will be dual pc i need some help to the cables routing, can anyone help me please?
With my Elgato CamLink 4K failing over the weekend and me longing for the Rodecaster Duo initially even though I'm primarily just using my interface solo, my eyes are back on the Streamer X now that time has passed and software fixes have come. I love my Zoom Podtrak P4 but I think I've reached its ceiling for my use as an interface primarily. It'll still be my podcast mixer/recorder but it may be worth the extra squeeze to have an all in one solution for both my capture card and audio needs
@@DarkCornerStudios Amazon may have made the decision a wee bit easier. Figured I'll gamble on the Streamer X with the 5 pay option they have. If I end up deciding 2 separate devices suit me better I can always return it and opt for a new CamLink and the Duo. Very curious to see who could be the next to try an all-in-one solution. Elgato seems closed with the Stream Deck Plus accessories now having an XLR interface. Maybe they'll go full throttle with a CamLink/XLR combo attachment for $179-199 since you still need the Stream Deck separately
The Streamer X and the Rodecaster Video look to be great products. Not sure if Rode is a little too late in the video game though, BlackMagic may have too much of a grip on the market. Not sure what Rodes sales of the Videocaster are like, but I have yet to see a RUclips video of one that was not given to an influencer.
The biggest problem with the Streamer X is that it's an audio interface and a video capture card in one. As an audio interface, I think it's compelling, but as a capture card, it lacks 4K support, VRR support, high frame rate support, etc. So if you want to capture from a PS5 or Series X, you're going to want a different capture card, which means there's no reason to buy this because it costs way more than just an audio interface. It was a neat idea to combine all of a streamer's needs into one device, but they should really stay separate so that you can upgrade them individually. Video formats seem to change constantly these days, but audio devices rarely need upgrading. So to answer your question, the next generation needs to just be an audio interface and nothing else.
Sorry, I meant that it can't capture even 4k60, only 4k30. It can passthrough 4k60, but for a console, being unable to capture even 4k60 or pass through 4k120, especially with no VRR passthrough, is a big problem. It's only going to get worse the next console generation, so then you have to upgrade, but then you also need a new audio interface because they were in the same box even though it works perfectly fine for audio capture, etc. Then again, I suppose when it's inevitably outdated, you could use it for camera capture only, which would be a decent use case. But then you could've gotten a much cheaper interface and a Camlink. I just don't think combining them into one product solved any problems and instead created a bunch more.
I would like to know who it is for, then? Who benefits from combining the two devices into one box, especially when both components are of mediocre quality compared to practically every other device out there? It's definitely not for me, but I don't think it's really for anyone, and that's the problem.
