Holy wowzah!!! This is one heck of a unit. Looks like Rode did a really slick job with the hardware and software design as well. Can't wait to get my hands on one of these. The all-in-one stream and podcast solution. Looks really user-friendly AND capable as well... you don't usually get both of those on the same product.
There is a big blank space at the top where the long input touchscreen should be and a tiny screen where the T bar should be! Ahhh. And there needs to be 4 usbc uvc inputs one per hdmi with quick toggle by holding down the input's preview key for three seconds. UVC cameras and ouputs from switchers and laptops are very common now and manufacturers are not keeping up with these things.
Man, it looks like Rode is giving Black Magic a run for the money in terms of affordable easy to use video switchers that are more conducive to streaming because of capability (audio/video) integration. Most def will be looking at getting one of these in the future. And although I didn't have an issue with the power button on my Dou being mushy -- kudos to Rode for listening to their users in terms of putting a better power button on this unit.
Everyone is like "yeah awesome, great, cool, can't wait to get my hands on one, Rode did it again, etc., etc.," But at $1200 nope. Not just nope but a big NOPE. Rode is trying to be the next Apple. Watch next year it will be Rodecaster Video ll, or Pro, or whatever they call it. The average person does not have $1200 lying around to throw at a switcher box. Osee and ATEM and others do basically the same thing for a lot less. Don't waste your money. Love your channel by the way!
@aBrotherMark thanks! To be fair I don't think this is aimed at the average person. I think this is aimed at the money making podcasts...and the organizations like churches that want a simple solution that doesn't require extra trainjng
The creative opportunities + Rode quality are why I decided to go with this. The overlays and expanded graphic options are a game changer for me (online educator). I do wish it had a built-in small monitor and one HDMI out that could handle 4k30p.
This machine is the bomb 💣. My work is going to use this to make high quality video courses and it will save us $$$$$ every year. Thank you for your video.🎉🎉🎉
I have to agree: There isn't another company like Rode. What they make, they make well with such a commitment to quality that it's hard to put them down. I know there are some that will pooh-pooh the price of this unit, but I think you touch upon something ... it's fun. Seriously. I'm a straight audio podcaster who at this juncture can record a show by using about five different methods, and they all work fine. A lot of that is thanks to Rode, who offers top flight QC as opposed to the crap shoot that is, well, a lot of brands you bump into doing the Micro Center stroll. So, does everyone NEED to run out and buy this? It depends on your needs - but I'm certainly not gonna blast anyone for rushing to get the Rodecaster Video, because it very well be the key to producing seamless presentations in the type of quality I'd wager most of us seek.
Hey, which sounds better maono hd300t or fifine am8, I'm getting them both for the same price. Also, is buying behringer xm8500 with a cheap 20$ audio interface better than the above options considering I'll be using AM8 or HD300t in USB mode but if i buy behringer, I'd get a cheap audio interface. Please do reply, sale is about to finish
Nice showcase. I think this is a great product as it replaces an XLR /Wireless audio interface, a flexible HDMI switcher and for many use cases, it also replaces OBS. The only items it seems to be missing are SDI capability, NDI ingest and Bitfocus Companion support. The footprint looks smaller than my ATEM Mini Pro and GO XLR audio interface combined. If Companion isn't supported though, this would be the dealbreaker for me.
I was hoping for something more for the everyday creator. maybe 2-3 HDMI, 1 in 4K, some physical sliders and controls like the Rodecaster Duo. Neat product, but kinda a disappointment for the everyday creator.
remember the Duo was released after the Pro 2 I dont have any inside information on this...but it would be a logical next step. Also...one with a built in screen? Anyone??
I love the fact that Rode keeps inovating so seriously. However, as a blind person I have a huge problem with their Rode central app which is firmly, deliberately and determinedly inaccessibly and exclusively designed. People far more talented and experienced that I have tried working with Rode to change this, but to no avail. If anything they have doubled down.
For a company that creates soundboards with limitless sound pads the one bank of A-G is surprising. I also see a lot of real estate up top for a much larger display. Envision Gen 2 to be digital keys, banks and a way bigger display. Gen 2 will also be 4K.
Are you able to connect the DJI Osmo pocket 3 to this device, and will it be able to pick it up as a Webcam? I tried to connect my DJI to the Atem Mini Iso Pro and it does not come up as a source.
If I connect to the original RODECaster 1, will I still have full functionality and unlimited control of all the RODECaster one’s features? Also, can I use an iPhone as one of my cameras with this RODECaster video? Lastly, that glitchy thing that it does in Final Cut Pro does not look good at all. After working hard on a project that should not be something that you see for the end result.
Excellent run through. As always. Things start to get very interesting. They'll have us "budget friendlies" on Mars soon. Too pricey for me, at present, but it's going on the to get list. peaked my interest.
For the average hobbyist on a budget, this isn’t for us. We’ll just stick to our phones and jump cuts. It’ll be for someone and I hope they have fun creating.
And see I undervalued this thing in terms of price and overall value. I was kind of taken aback when I saw the price. $1,200 US is no small chunk of change. But it started to make sense watching the live stream with B&H and checking out some other videos on it. It would absolutely work for me.
It's a hard yes! for me - well worth it. There is simply no comparison with anything at this price point in the market right now for what I do. Combing clean audio with a capable switcher has just streamlined my setup immensely. Just wish Rode did this earlier. Seems they purposefully watch me go through frustrating sessions of purchasing the "THE RIGHT" interface cable to supply clean (noise and interference free) to my other switchers ( Atem mini pro Iso, Extreme Iso and Yolobox Ultra). The ability to connect my RCP II or Dou for extra inputs is a huge plus for me. I have no regrades purchasing this and in line for the 4K version. Thank you for this in depth review.
Darn. Pretty decent kit. There's definitely been a gap in the market. Good for Røde putting the R n D work in. Price for what it does is not excessive. Yes great creative possibilities!
Yes, you do not need the Dou to stream. Unless, you need it for extra inputs. Rode has just streamlined my work flow further, by combining me two favorite pieces of streaming hardware (a swithcer and a clean Audio interface). Love it
Looks great and sounds fun. New gear does make me feel better, but then I feel guilty for not fully utilizing it or even using it at all. Too little time. Thanks.
Can you mute the microphone inputs during a live stream? Example, we currently use the Rode Caster Duo plugged into an ATEM mini Pro to live stream high school baseball games. during the breaks in between innings we mute the broadcasts headsets and leave the stadium mic on. Then once play resumes we unmute and start calling the game again. Is this possible through the new Rode Video?
As far as I know, this is possible when you use the rodecaster video together with a pc to use the companion software. There you have access to a full mix panel with all the audio sources. Hope it helps
I'll be waiting to get mine for review soon, but with what I have seen, Two things will probably kill the sales of this product, the price, compared to other products, 1080 when Yolo can do 4k, Lastly, Much of those who will be buying this are already a Rodecaster owner, they just need swither that can do a video that integrates well with the rodecasterpro. Good product probably for those without good audio mixer, I want to believe this will work well for those streaming live events and run two balanced audio from DJ or so.
Personally, I am very impressed with this product, as it delivers everything the ATEM should have. One enhancement that would be remarkable is the ability to host audio VSTs directly. However, I believe this can likely be achieved through a PC as well.

I’ve always been frustrated with the ATEM audio inputs being.
