I remember watching this match. It has aged well. From 1990-2000, I had the opportunity to meet and compete against the best. (I was just an amateur, but I got lucky a few matches). Jim Rempe was one of the guys I enjoyed playing against and watching. He was a bit of a ham, during this match. Usually he was more reserved. You can tell Efren had him rattled, early on. 😆 Efren, on the other hand, was still just becoming known here, in the States, by the TV audience. He was already, in a class of his own even then. @:22 "I don't know how he did that!" It's not as hard, as it looks, but Efren makes it look so easy. (I was also an instructor, for 10 years.) The key is to strike the cueball high, with a flat cue. This raises the object ball ever so slightly* off the table, as it passes the 8-ball. * (Since the balls are round), only the center edge, of the 7-ball, needs to clear the center edge of the 8-ball.
I had the great opportunity to watch him live when he came down to Malaysia in the early 2000’s for an exhibition or something. Back then as a kid I had no clue a legend had grace the pool centre behind my parents house!! God bless Efren, peeps from the Philippines and all his fans 🙏
Efren is the master of ball control! that's why he's so much exciting to watch than other players! rempe played so well on this video! so much respect to this 2 amazing players!

I’ve only started playing pool about 7 months ago, practicing as much as I can with the pandemic going on and all, and I hope to be half as good as Reyes one day. He is deffo my fav player and love watching videos of him playing. Hope to get lucky and meet him one day. Hehe
The reason Efren hit the ball so hard on that second shot is because he was using follow. If he hit it slower it was likely to scratch. When using follow or draw, the harder you hit the cue ball, the further along the tangent line it will travel before taking effect. Efren knows this. In other words the follow had no effect on the cue ball after hitting the object ball until after it hit the first rail. These shots do come up once in a blue moon. Even a lot of good players don't know this Ive found. Efren is not your average good player. Another thing a lot of good players neglect is the diamond system. Efren is a master of that too.
Efren's genius on the pool table lies in the creativity of his shots and his ability to extricate from difficult ball situations that only he, among other great pool players, is capable of thinking and executing to perfection.
Yes, two legends, but what a rash shot by Rempe, his only inexcusable mistake there, trying to down the 9 off the two ball. All that hard work getting back, it was a low low percentage shot, I'm baffled why a player with his years of experience went for that, but Reyes was absolutely the worthy winner, great shot on the 7, which could also have gone very wrong, but didn't, and the rest is history 🤙
efren is a scientist of pool..the trick he made is amazing ,nobody can compared for his genius trick..nobody...the greatest of billiard from the philippines...and around the world..

This was a very exciting match! Efren making that 7 in the last match was amazing considering how much pressure was on him. Rempe should had never went for the tough shot on the 9 ball so early he could had possibly won the match.
When your up ageist an opponent that can do magical shot like the 7, there is no safe! It go hard or go home that last round I would have taken the shot the same way he done

Then imagine having to play Efren...

Yeah, unfortunately not everyone can win in life. Some poor young souls probably had only experienced defeats until death. That's life
I cant believe i watched 29 minutes without feeling i watched 29 minutes video. All because of Efren Skills.
Efren "The Magician" Bata......you are the first and the last of it's kind.
Jim Rempe is a Class Act...gracious in defeat...if that was Earl, he will have hundreds of reason why he lost. 👍🏻🙂
No one will argue. He's the GOAT of pool.

Unfortunately, you have to play it from a young age, sleep in the table, and dream of balls in order for you to become 1/100 as good as efren
