My grandpa used to visit my grandma after cancer took her when she was 66 every sunday, it could be raining cats and dogs but he would go. They met when they were 10, they marry when they were 20 and had 4 kids and over a dozen of grandkids. He left us 10 years later, never recovered from that.

My parents have been married for 43 years as of the posting of this comment.. they are very deeply in love and it scares to to think how the lose of one will affect the survivor.

Not often that a movie makes me break down emotionally.
I met my significant other through long distance. We had visits for over a year before actually being able to move in with each-other. The sheer amount of pain that comes with having to go so long waking up next to what you EXPECT to be that person - only for it to be an empty bed - it hurts a metric shit ton.

I don't talk to my dead wife but the pain is unbearable and then comes the numbness.

How awful would that feel? The other guys who are walking by him and he the actor does a great job of showing them respect but he's heartbroken because he can't go and the guilt is floating down that hall. If it were a color I'd say it would be red. Feelings of dishonor, abandonment, shame, guilt, anger, jealousy and fear. None of them wanted to go but what's worse is the feeling that Otto's character can't help but feel the attitude from the soilders and they assume he's a Momma's boy and not a man. I'm not a dude but that's how I see it especially when the Soilders realized it was real. (+ the way Americans treated them when they got home. I was little and I didn't understand. ) I asked my Dad "Why are people being mean to the Army guys that just got home?" + I'll never forget what his reply was. "Because they're idiots." 😂😊

There is an original, this is a version. The original was made in Denmark? Scandinavia? I can't remember. Google "What is the name of the original"A man named Otto" My sister told me about it and it's much more heartbreaking and even better than this( and she has a heart made of stone!) I cried like a baby, laughed like a child and I love this movie. But, although Otto has had alot of tragedy he got the greatest gift a person could ever receive. True love. No wondering, no judgement, no lies, that finger touch in the morning. I never had that ever. Some people in this World do find their soulmate but everyone always ends up getting divorced because of lies. I know this story happens in real life, just not to me. How lucky are they? Unconditional love. Bad things happen to everyone. Yet, everyone is not bad, some people are good. They are rewarded with the greatest gift of all. Those are the people whose gift is their curse and their curse is their gift. I'll never experience it. I'm 55 and just ended an exhausting 10 yr relationship with the man of my dreams. He just couldn't get enough being the narcissist he is. Now that we are no longer together NOW he stopped chasing other Women. Our house looks abandoned and his handsome features are gone. He looks terrible. Nobody wants him. We are friends and i visit and sometimes I'll give him a hug goodbye. That isn't ever enough. He started grabbing me when he should have 10 years ago. This movie reminds me that people need to realize a good thing while they still have it. That's why this movie is so heartbreaking.
