I have had this lens for 1 year and I got it for astrophotography and landscape so autofocus was not important. It is very sharp. Its too bad Sony does not support APS-C cameras with appropriate lenes to get the job done. I suggest adding a 67mm Hoya Intensifier filter to your kit with this lens because of its use for reducing light pollution (orange) in astro/night photography. I leave it on often since it was originally intended for a portrait and landscape filter to enhance but not alter colors. It would likely help the night videos in your review. Also my photos are improved significantly when I edit in Lightroom and manually identify the correct lens for correction since the editing program does not ID the manual lens. You really see the change in the far corners of the image after correction. For landscapes at f/11 you can focus at the Hyperfocal distance of 2.1 ft and everything from 1.1 ft to infinity is sharp. Thanks for the good review.
I have fallen love with the Rokinon 12mm f/2 lens on my A6500. It is sharp, beautiful colors, and with Focus Assist and Focus Peaking on the A6500, the Rokinon is quite easy to focus manually...
I got a Sony A6000 with 18-135 and loving it ! I just dicovered ultra wide angle with my smartphone, and now I only shoot with this, but the sharpness IS si bad ! I want the rokinon on my A6000 ! Love this focal lenght
Been looking for an affordable wide angle lens and I think I've found it! Thanks for sharing this. Only downside is the manual focus. I'm not that experienced yet but hopefully I'll get the hang of it.
I am looking forward to picking up one of these... I think it will flesh out my Sigma 30mm f/1.4, Sony 50mm f/1.8 OSS and Sony 85mm kit for my A6500...
Great lens, especially for astro. I think that if Sony would have made his zoom lenses 2.8 (the 10-18 and 18-105) instead of F4, they would have killed the market!
I have the Samyang version of this. And even though I'm aware that it wasn't made to be used for taking (for example) kids photos, I sometimes end up using it to take photos of my daughter while running around a park (after taking photos of the park itself and I feel too lazy to switch lenses). Focusing becomes a real challenge in those kind of situations. "Everything" is in focus at f8 focused at approx 2m away from the lens. But unless my kid is exactly at that position, she still come out soft. Which is why I'm considering the Sigma 16mm f1.4
Hey Sean, Quick question...What would be (In your humble opinion) the best Lens under $400 for the Panasonic G7? I am looking for a better upgraded lens that isn't going to break the bank but need something wide with image stabilization for vlogging. Thanks in advance...Daniel
The Rokinon, same one but on a G7, do you think it increases the field of view while filming in 4k a lot compared to the kit lens? The G7 comes with 14-42mm kit lens so would 12 mm Rokinon make any difference?
This lens is the greatest for my live streams. Just had my first ever live stream and I’m so happy. The response I got back was magnificent! It’s perfect for me as I want to show my back ground of pictures and shelving. I’m so happy. Just adjust the focus once and I’m good to go! See my first live stream on how it looks! I’m just so happy with the look and price was a plus! The other camera my 2nd Sony 6400 has a batis 2.8/18mm. Wanna talk sharp now that’s a lens of beauty. Getting ready to pick up a second Rokinon 12mm lens to cover the whole studio. Can’t wait! Thanks again
Which would be better for real estate photography where I need a good low light and ultra wide lens. A6000 with Rokinon or Nikon D3400/5600 with Tokina 11-16mm?
Great comparison. I'm either picking up the Rokinon or the 16 mm prime for my X T3. I use the Sigma 16 mm DC DN f 1.4 on my 6500 and love that lens. For me, more than 16 mm is less usable.
Looking for a good cheap starter Milky Way lens to use with my EOS M6 Mk II. The EOS M version of this seems like it would be perfect. Good Review Thanks.
If we compare a Nikon D7200 with 10-24 mm lens on 12mm with a sony a6500 with 12mm rokinon then which one will produde wider image ?? I am more into landscape photography and seeking for ultra wide angle shots. So which one should i consider a better pick ?
Dang man, good video BUT was waiting to see some Infinity Focus shots Landscapes with the gimbal... any footage like this you have already uploaded or will you? Thank you
Hey I've been working hard on my new RUclips channel and this lens was next on my list to buy!! Thanks for the review. I just picked up the sony 50 mm 1.8 for my channel and love it!!
Once i get into a more serious Canon camera I may step away from using my Samsung sg5 as my primary. Canons 50 50 sounds like a good lens product. Thanks
Out of the topic question sir, what canon camera do you think is best for food blogging here in youtube? Thanks I do close up video of foods in. Buffet
Seriously love how in depth your reviews are. I’d love to see your review on the Sony A5000/A6000. I love the canon G7x but I’m really looking for a cheaper alternative.
I returned mine. Pics came out great dont get me wrong but mine stated falling apart and i baby all my stuff. That outer ring around the lens element that displays the info fell off. That ruined it for me. Seeing other people having physical issues with theirs as well i decided to send it back. I got a Sigma 16mm 1.4 with Auto focus. Seems like a real killer lens. If anyones looking for an alternative i say go with the sigma 1.4
Awsome video . This lens is definitely on my purchase list next for my sony a6400 . I prefer all manual lenses. My favorite lens so far is tt artisans 40mm 2.8 macro lense. And meika 25mm 2.0
I'd love to test this one out. My favorite e-mount lens is the Sigma 30mm f/2.8. It's so versatile and affordable. It's a perfect street photography lens and is rdiculously sharp.
I’ve had this lens for a few months now for my A6300 and I’m not completely satisfied with the footage I get when it comes to sharpness/focus. I actually put it up for sale haha
Hey Sean, I would probably consider myself pretty experienced with the tech that you review. Unfortunately, being an early teen, my access to money is pretty poor. Just wondering if you could do a starter video or a $200 or less video for people who don’t want to spend a fortune on a good camera or lens.
Question, I'm going to be doing education videos based on geography content. Do I have to have a capture card to gather all the video, or would I use a program instead, being I will have to use videos from numerous sources I would like to know the best option from the start. Thanks and keep the videos coming.
I am looking to getting a wide angle lens for real estate videos. What is everyone thoughts on using this lens? I notice they have zero-d wide angle lens on the market but they cost a pretty penny. I was thinking of getting this as a starter before upgrading to one of those. Any input from using this lens is greatly appreciated!
To be solo cheap I think it does a okay job with distortion. Only thing is I wish it had a little bit more contrast to it. I'm seeing a lot of samyang and rokinon lenses doing great just missed the contrast. It will help when pairing with zeiss and sony G lenses.
Thank you for a nice detailed review of this camera. Some things you say sometimes just go over my head. But I’m learning a lot from you and Benji every time I watch your videos😘
Thanks, pretty good. I'm also looking at Laowa 9mm for a6400. Trying to decide between the Laowa and this 12mm (more for stills). A comparo of these two would really be helpful. I don't see one so far.
Let me tell you something. I’ve shot with Leica’s M’s, R’s and digitalis as well as Nikon’s and Sony’s and you get what you pay for! I have the Sony 10 to 18 and shoot it on my A6000, A5000 AND A7R and this 10-18 does work on the A7R as well! You’re limited to 12mm to 18mm on the full frame A7R.
Eh looking at the differences between the 6000 and the 6300, the 6000 is better if you don't plan on making lots of videos (like me). Though the viewfinder in the 6300 is a lot nicer, I really dig my 6000.
Hey Sean! I recently subscribed to your channel and I must admit that i’m glad I did. I love how educational but yet sooo understandable your videos are for beginners like myself. Can’t wait to see what else you have in store for future videos.🙂💜

The lens is all right but for the blog, I would put an Nd filter and see if it does not distort the colors turning into green inside your studio. It did great in the Light park in very little light. @@ThinkMediaTV Woow great comment, do you have instagram to see the pics you took ?

Thank you for that sir!
Will definitely look at those
I love Rokinons line of lenses. I just recently did a review of the 8mm for the M50. Makes the 4k more usable.
I have this lens for my Canon EOS M5. It is great for landscape photography, especially around dusk or dawn. It is very sharp and the color is great.
Just got the M6MkII so thats good to hear. Im looking to do Milky Way with it.

Samyang is releasing an updated version of this lens with auto focus. Think we could get a review and comparison between the two?
yooo what is it available. I need that.
I don't like how the color is not as good with rokinon but sometimes when your broke its a good go to.
*whispering* post-processing
Native Bmx Crew you’re
I think for action figure photography this could be useful. Could give some unique perspective. May have to invest in this.
Can you talk more about infinite focus?
Been looking for an affordable wide angle lens and I think I've found it! Thanks for sharing this. Only downside is the manual focus. I'm not that experienced yet but hopefully I'll get the hang of it.
Glass is expensive, I only have the kit 16-50mm for my a5000. But I can do all I need to with that. Work within my limits!
Abdul Koroma that’s a great setup! 🔥💯
if you have the 6600 with AF built in would that make the lack of AF on this lens not matter?
I am looking forward to picking up one of these... I think it will flesh out my Sigma 30mm f/1.4, Sony 50mm f/1.8 OSS and Sony 85mm kit for my A6500...
I use also a not -native lens for my g7, it is non autofocus nikkor 50mm. Great result, but need to learn the focus/ depth of field a lot.
Great lens, especially for astro. I think that if Sony would have made his zoom lenses 2.8 (the 10-18 and 18-105) instead of F4, they would have killed the market!
Agree!
However, at 2.8 they would probably heavy and much larger.
But I agree. 👊💯

12mm multiplied by the APS-C crop factor of 1.6 would be slightly tighter at 19.2mm, but practically 18mm.
