If we're going to get into anime films, the "Lily C.A.T." is about as close as an alien clone as you can get. The entire plot is, essentially, "Alien" with the Thing replacing the Xenomorph.
Star Crystal would be a good one to cover. It kills off several characters, then introduces another set of characters who seem like main cast material. They're quickly killed off too and we're left with four mostly boring dopes in a very restricted set. Then the ending and it's crazy 180. Odd flick, awesome end song.
A Venom suit made with a motorcycle visor is the first thing I saw it as. I like Hauer's performance as a hardboiled detective who doesn't drink, he's all hyped up on coffee and sugar. It looks like he had a lot of fun with that role.
I love SPLIT SECOND! I was one of the few who saw it in the theater when it came out. You're right that the plot is not ALIEN-like at all, but there's no denying the creature design was heavily influenced by the xenomorph. I remember seeing THE INTRUDER WITHIN on TV as a kid (if I recall, it was a TV movie, not a theatrical one) and being frightened by it, but I suspect it wouldn't be such a scary movie to me now.
Split Second is badass. Even though yes the creature is supposed to be a demon. Rutger Hauer is completely in his element in this film and absolutely kills his part.
Metamorphosis The Alien Factor is one of those movies I always tell people to watch if the topic of underrated horror comes up. I love the way the main alien looks. It's a major bummer it hasn't seen a blu ray release yet.
@fairyqueentitania5080 oh, for fuckin sure! Spot was a great little side dude. I really wish this got as much love as Deadly Spawn does. It deserves it.
Back in the early 80's, Dom's Video had the poster for "The Intruder Within" hanging on their store. Yet another excellent video. If I haven't mentioned it, I'm a huge fan of your channel.
You should top 10 psycho ripoffs, which there were tons of in the late 60's and early 70's. Some of my favorites are. 5. The house that screamed: not technically a psycho ripoff but there's a woman who has a very unhealthy Norma Bates relationship with her mentally unhinged and socially awkward preteen son in a private school for wayward school girls 5. Scream Bloody Murder, an early 70's slasher that starts off as a psycho clone but goes into a proto-Misery film 3. Keep my grave open: what if psycho but it had a woman with an unhealthy obsession with her supposed dead brother 2. Funeral Home: People are murdered at a funeral parlor with a twist on the psycho ending 1. The Other
Awesome list Josh, it was your first alien list that got me into your channel. I always loved the 90s ripoff Beyond the Edge of Darkness aka Project Shadowchaser 3. Series as a whole would make a cool timeline
Honestly, it still has to be Galaxy of Terror. It’s very obviously trend-chasing, but has awesome set designs and enough unique aspects that differentiate it from Alien
For me the best Rip offs came out in the 80s - Galaxy of terror, Inseminoid, Forbidden World and Creature. Honorable mention to Star Crystal which at least tried something different halfway through
20 movies ripping off Alien and STILL no Xtro II? Come on its a blatant rip off, plus it has Jan Michael-Vincent in his "What am I doing here, this isn't the bar" phase!
Good to see Deep Space on here this time lol I still can't believe you haven't put Xtro 2 on the first 2 lists though, man that is the biggest Alien rip off ever, right down to the Ripley character, it is fun though and has Jan Michael Vincent in it and he's always fun to watch. You could probably do a Predator rips offs list too and include Xtro 3 because that's pretty much all that one is. The Xtro movies would make a really easy Timelines video for you because NONE of them have anything to do with the previous one, besides them all being directed by the same guy 😂 I remember spending years trying to find The Enemy within after becoming obsessed with the movie poster my mate had on his bedroom wall, it took me over 2 decades to finally find and see it and boy was I pissed off, it was so boring and slow, I'd wasted 2 decades of my life searching for a film that didn't deserve a few minutes searching for ha ha. Another on this list that I really really hated was Metamorphosis The Alien factor. To be even mentioned in the same breath as The Deadly Spawn is an insult, let alone a sequel. I just couldn't get past how atrocious the acting and dialogue were in it. It's got to be up there with the worst I've ever seen in a film and it apparently cost $3m, how??? There's a bit of really cheap stop motion animation and a few really poor rubber puppets, some of them are literally being pushed along on sticks. I bought the film on DVD knowing it was a sequel to TDS and after watching it, I took it outside and set fire to it, that's how pissed I was at the film 😂 Few movies have ever angered me as much as that one did lol
I love The Deadly Spawn. Even did a titlecard piece of art for the RUclipsr Tenold that reviewed the flick. I always forget that Metamorphosis exists. And I guess that leads me to question why you have not done a mini timeline on those two flicks :P Or have the two Terror Within flicks on their own mini timeline? The Intruder within is a super fun made for TV flick. Been wishing that someone would freaking restore it for a release so more people can see it. That and Curse of the Black Widow :)
That's rad. It's been a while, but I know exactly what that card looks like without seeing it. Funnily enough, when he said Deadly Spawn 2, he was the first person I thought of
I wish I could give this video two likes! Love this kinda content. Links duly added and dammit now you've reminded me I still need to add The Terror Within II which is, as you say, nowhere much as fun as the first one.
Each of the Doom movies could be considered ripoffs of "Aliens". But even though " Doom: Annihilation" actually has demons, it also has a Ripley, a Hudson, a Burke, and the script even thinks it's being clever by calling out the similarities early on. Army of the Dead s about zombies, but once thr mission actually starts thr story structure is totally Aliens. And there's a UFO in an early scene, I guess hintng that the zombie plague is extraterrestrial in nature. All on all I'd say it feels closer than Split Second ever did. I love Dog Soldiers in large part because it's essentially Aliens but with Werewolves. Star Trek Strange New Worlds recently did an obviously Alien-inspired ep. Which reminded me that an episode of Star Wars: The Clone Wars also did one.
Split Second seems more like a Bladerunner rip off. Cool to see Ian Dury! Dury must have been a Sci-Fi fan because he also shows up in the Deus Ex Machina game and he shows up in the original Judge Dredd with Stallone.
@@movietimelines If you do a video on Alien, try to veer into the more exotic elements, as the film itself has been dissected to death. The same with Aliens (the upcoming Aliens Expanded documentary notwithstanding).
When you go with a title like "Alien" some part of you has to expect that you're just tossing it out into the bootleg-o-sphere. Harder to crib part of the title off of, I don't know, Chitty-Chitty-Bang-Bang?
I can't really fault the titular Terror Within for having nothing but reproduction on his/its mind when Starr Andreeff is in the cast, quite honestly. And I still think Split Second is the best Venom film so far.
Stone is just that way in split second because people who get close to him tend to be in danger alot so if he's a douche bag that is just his way of protecting them.
While I like Split Second, I don't understand it for a moment. Is the monster suppose to be an alien, a mutant, a mutant alien, or something else altogether? Why does Rutger have a psychic connection to it? And what's up with the satanic-like glyphs it carves into Rutger's partner? I suspect either a lot of the movie was left on the cutting room floor or was in the script, but never shot.

Agree with Josh, Rutger Hauer's Split Second isn't a Alien ripoff anything and don't know way people keep adding it. I disagree that it looks like a Xeno, and I believe it was a demon and an alien.

Ramboraph4life's review of it is the funniest thing I ever saw.
Split Second is a fun movie to watch, if you like I Come in Peace, you'll enjoy this one. The creature also looks like a discount Venom.

I'm sure Creepozoids could elbow its way on to a list like this.
I'm curious about the dog interrogation. Did that go anywhere? Did Hauer just like talking to the dog? I'd definitely be talking to the dog.

I feel like Alien is so iconic, that it’s almost impossible to make an “alien loose on the ship” without it seeming like a ripoff.
Split Second is badass. Even though yes the creature is supposed to be a demon. Rutger Hauer is completely in his element in this film and absolutely kills his part.

a+ as always - great content
I literally thought Roots Search was Lilly Cat. And you're right, Napier was a miscast. They should have gone with Tom Atkins.
I was thinking this too, he should review it sometime

That Gargoyle that looked different in Terror Within 2 was a hybrid or something; there was something special about that one, if I remember correctly
there is a space monster movie called Creature (1985) It scared me a lot than any slasher. I saw this movie before I saw any of the 'Alien' movies.
