@@bobdavis4848 I didn't even know there was a Living Strings version til I saw your comment here. I just listened to it, & it's also wonderful. It definitely projects a sense of big screen grandeur, which is very fitting for the epic comedy. That's what I love about the melody, it works as a call to adventure or as a quietly romantic reflection, either way. Thanks for the suggestion. I can't believe there was yet another cover that had escaped my attention all these years!

I had actually never heard of The Great Race movie; I bought the Living Strings album because of the romantic cover and I liked other albums of theirs. I'm surprised the song was in a comedy about a car race, as I'd have suspected it was in a movie that was romantic all the way through. Though I do think your words about dual purposes of the song makes sense. I suppose in The Great Race it was meant as a break from hyper and goofy activity.
