I worked for a large home builder for 13 years... i topped out with my salary around 35k a year. I was a KEY employee for the region i was in. Regular meetings with VPs, large projects and huge responsibility. When I asked for a raise, I was told by one higher up "You think you can leave here and make more money somewhere else?". I put in my resignation a few weeks later to pursue an online marketing career. 3 years later I own and manage a print on demand manufacturing company making much more than 35k a year. When Barbara spoke about Simon telling her "you'll never succeed without me" and the shift in her mind from employee to owner.... it resonated so loudly with me. Now when someone tries to tell me what I can't do, i grit my teeth, buckle down and think "watch me". WONDERFUL interview guys.
She reinforced what I've felt for awhile. School doesn't teach you to be successful, it teaches you to be an obedient worker drone aside from a few select professions.
You're definitely right about that. However, the one good thing that people can get out of a good school is the ability to learn *how* to learn. And even a 4 year university will teach you that in year 1. But not all schools even do that.
Watching these real life experiences from the successful people makes us to drive towards our goals with much more enthusiasm thinking what life is going to be in the future.. Seriously Pat, you are doing an amazing job!
This is the only channel I follow. Because the owner actually runs a business and has real life practical experience of running a successful business lol. Too much motivation and fancy Steve Jobs quotes all over RUclips how come none of these guys are actually running real businesses with offices? I'm working towards running a real profit generating business with real customers and paying tax lol. There are too many guys on RUclips who theories all day with no practical experience. I cut my RUclips watch time dramatically because I want to actually do it rather than talk about it. Just Do It is the motto dudes
Thanks for interviewing women Patrick. "Of mice and men" oh I remeber that one from my ESL class. What a time! Now I feel blessed to have the "immigrant kid" experience.
Patrick I have enjoyed all of your interviews, very well put together! It would be great if you could pull together an interview with Brian Scudamore! The man is a legend when it comes to the Service Industry!
I developed an affinity for this woman over this interview despite seeing her from airing of the 1st Shark Tank episode where no one cared. But my love really flamed @ 30:26 and 30:44 😂!! Glad I am working for the Corcoran subsidiary.
Gotta admit, Pat. What you put up here is priceless! Literally can't set a price to it & you do it in such a unique way. I'm from a developing country and because proper structures aren't in place, it'd take some time for business here to grow to a significant level. However with the principles and wisdom I glean from you, the duration for growth to significant levels has been shortened. Thanks for being a REAL teacher, Pat!
Holy, this is great. Thanks Patrick for interviewing one of the sharks. This interview taught me a pretty good lesson. It proves once again, no matter where you came from, no matter how good you did in school, no matter how your family was rich or poor, doing hardwork and being persistent will pay back one way or another.
That shoes Pat u got from one of the Valuetainers right? Sending one pair of shoe for appointment. GOAT as always..Keep digging Gold Value for us..Thanks!!!
Her philosophy on compensation seems to go well with Patrick's. Sales is king. An appropriate compensation plan for salespeople will incentivize success and is good for a business in the long run.
Never thought i would see this coming, a woman of wonder, one of shark tank vicious shark. Thank Pat, I truly home you become a legend yourself since you are after all leaving a mark everywhere you go
Damn such mixed feelings on this one. As a viewer it was really frustrating how often she interrupted. She acknowledged it, but seemingly made no effort to correct it. I have a similar problem especially when I get an idea but I try really hard to correct it when I'm doing it again. Also, had no idea what kind of family you came from. 5 minutes of research could have answered that. Personally, if I had that much struggle I'd be offended if someone didn't know even a little of what it took to get there. It's really interesting when she was talking about selling her business as I'm already thinking about the future when I'm eventually approached and I just don't know if I can. I'm reading "Good to Great" by Jim Collins right now and just finished the chapter about how some companies handle hiring and firing and different management models. The people on my team I've been recruiting for over a decade and as I begin to transition them into honest-to-goodness employees I can imagine their lives getting turned around by an outsider. I also really liked her idea of "if I gave this person my baby would it be alive in 5 years" what a great barometer. She said all the best entrepreneurs generally have something to prove. My something: Nana will not be a liar. She always said I'd do something massively successful. She said she has no idea what it's going to be, but she knows I will. I'll be damned if I'm going to prove her wrong. I've been with my mother in a welfare line, I've been with my family in their upper-middle class second home in Florida now I want to see the top
How come I can relate to Barbara so much! I love work, don’t like people talking with fancy words! People with all education background should understand what you say! Otherwise, how can you sell? I love honest people, childish like ones 🤪no matter how bad things are, we can learn and move on! Love my work, love Valuetainment 😘- Lillian

She reinforced what I've felt for awhile. School doesn't teach you to be successful, it teaches you to be an obedient worker drone aside from a few select professions.
50 Blades of Grey Quite a few people have noticed this over the years. It’s just getting worse. I figured this out when I was 15.
You're definitely right about that. However, the one good thing that people can get out of a good school is the ability to learn *how* to learn. And even a 4 year university will teach you that in year 1. But not all schools even do that.
School is important- but it is not everything. Kids HAVE to attend school and graduate
Barbara: I've been interviewed by PBD , therefore I'm out.
