Thank you! Darin Morgan is one of our best TV writers, and the only reason he didn't win an Emmy for this episode is that he won one for his *other* greatest X-Files episode, "Clyde Bruckman's Final Repose." But we should also talk about how crucial Rob Bowman's directing was, grounding an insane script in a recognizable world. Hats off.
I really feel the other writers of the show are underrated because Darin Morgan gets all of the attention.
But the thing is, whilst they're underrated Darin Morgan absolutely deserves the attention! It's a shame we didn't get more episodes from him but at least he came back for seasons 10 and 11.
For sure. That's why Bowman got the movie, and did a great job with it, too.
The greatest episode of the entire series....this scene in particular was brilliant....and Mark Snow's music made it all the better....genius writing.

So much genius writing filled this episode! So subjuctively/objectively awesome! The reoccurring querry, "How the hell should I know? " can only be answered by those "rare or lucky who find it"

I only knew Charles Nelson Reilly before this as the annoying dweeb on the Match Game. He was beyond brilliant in this performance. One that I frequently talk about with friends.
The only thing that comes close to how great the end of this episode is, is the beginning of this episode.

I watched this for the first time recently. I remember thinking at the time it was bloody good. There’s some real bangers in the early seasons created by masters of television. And no I’m not finished yet, I’m late season 5 so no spoilers please.
