Yeah no joke. I have tickets to see one of his extremely rare shows in August. He's with Doobie Brothers. Him and Michael Mcdonald in the same show, what a treat. It's funny because is at the same venue he opened shortly before GNR destroyed the place in 1991. But he played the premier show for the new venue then, where they didn't think to bolt the seat to the ground.
who in the age of 72 has such a high and clear voice? He had played this song so often and the musical arrangment got better over the years. Thank you, Steve, for publishing this perfect version, I like it very much
I don't think so - the majority always listened to crap but the folks with character listen to guys like Winwood - not to forget he played on the best Hendrix album the organ !
Steve is one of the most underrated artists of all time. The number of instruments he can play - his incredible vocals - and his music writing prowess, rates him in a category that few can rise to. Been a fan for far more than 40 plus years. Awesome Steve and band! ❤
Steve! This tune was recorded in '86 it's always given me much joy. It seems to gracefully evolve in with today's world and it's need to hear, listen and embrace it. Thank you Steve for giving me 50yrs of the best music.
This song and so many others just takes me back to the good times. I remember back in the summer of 89 I was at a public pool. Someone had a boom box and the radio station was playing “Roll With It”. There was a young guy in a wheelchair doing wheelies and spinning around having a blast! The true meaning of the song playing out right before my eyes. I’ll never forget that.
Brings back VERY happy memories of a young man who didn't have a care in the world, was enjoying every minute of life and had his whole life ahead of him. Time flies. Hard to believe I was in high school when this song hit the air. Steve still sounds amazing after all these years. THANK YOU, Steve Winwood, for all the joy you've brought to so many over the decades!
Thank you, Mr Winwood. I saw this concert in Austin, Texas. It was wonderful. I still remember how impressed I was with the tightness of all the musicians. I hope that makes sense. Not a musician at all myself. ✌️❤️🎶🎁
Steve Winwood own grammy award in 1987 for his work released in 1986 , during my post graduation 1985 - 1987 , this song deep rooted in my mind ever since .
Even after 36 years, this song still makes me smile and feel great and just move. And the re-arrangement for 2020 takes nothing from the original while adding a slick organ solo at the end. And of course the voice...does it get any better than Steve Winwood's voice? For me, not a chance! Thank you for this awesome post.
The one and only Steve Winwood sill sounding fabulous in 2020, in 2022... Much as I love Whitney, this is the original and best. A superb musician surrounded by superb musicians. 🌟💕
Ya aint kiddin! Absolutely blown away! Totally brought me back to 1985 cruisin the strip with my boys on a hot n steamy summer night.... good times! Thanks Steve!!😊
Old age! Seventy two is middle age today. Anyway I saw Steve and his band perform with his daughter in St. Louis a few years back. They were great together.
sounds as good \as when it came out, a classic tune, by the master mr windwood, always loved his music since the barley corn album came out, 1969, if i am correct......
Always thought that Steve Winwood has Latin or African blood inside, mix of blues, rock, folk, r&b, pop, jazz, latin jazz, caught me, especially “Welcome to the Canteen”. He get together with first class musicians, looking for the same perception of what he wants to trasmit, percussionists, wind instruments, guitar players & him on keyboards; together they manage to refresh this beautiful song, each of these talented musicians with there instruments are protagonist of this "Higher love", version, thanks for sharing, long life Steve Winwood, Saludos desde Peru. Siempre pensé que Steve Winwood tiene sangre latina o africana dentro de su ser, mezcla de blues, rock, folk, r&b, pop, jazz, latín jazz, me atrapó especialmente con el “Welcome to the Canteen”. Few artists manage to change with the times. SW is the exception. Fantastic songs redone in contemporary style - but not THAT different. A fantastic artist...since the '60s and still current. Amazing.
@@stevewinwoodvideos You're always more than welcome! Thank you so much for all the hard work and great music you've been greeting us the fans with all these years! 🙏❤
So uplifting. Thank you for the joy of many years. I first saw you at the Kinetic Playground in Chicago and last saw you at The House of Blues with my best friend, who was not able to meet that year’s end. But that night we were with you. It was a wonderful way to celebrate our lives since childhood shared in joy!👭🏻💞
This kind re-visit offering done here by Steve is a reminder of how much of a pillar his music represented to me and that I relied upon hearing it on radio play at that time period. It meant that referring to my record collection was not necessary, or that I need not wait until I returned home from my work day to hear Steve's work , I could hear it during the time I was away from home and that it helped see me through my day as perhaps a guide through the wilderness. It also gave a sense of issuing a place of common ground in the workplace where upon the workers all set their radio sets to the same station and turned an otherwise hostile work environment into a place of unity through music. Rather priceless in the world of today ! Thank's Steve ! `LIKED'
I can't help but express further , that I felt that I had travelled a great distance and that I had came so far as a fan along the way as a fan of Steve , considering how I was still in awe from Steve's work with Jimi and Eric, especially Jimi , not to diss Eric ,but what Jimi did on Electric Lady Land cut me the deepest and he asked Steve to sit in and that to me was epic beyond compare .To me Jimi spoke to everybody , where as Eric reached out more specifically I thought .I relate these thoughts now , because these are the things I considered and what crossed my mind at the time in 1985 when Steve's `Back In The Highlife ' was first released . In regard though to Steve's collaborations with Eric , there is not another recording that I owned any more so in multiple formats , whether it was recorded on L.P. , or 8-track tape, or cassette( I don't know about reel to reel ) than Blind Faith .I had that recording with me close to hand however possible . It all made songs like this one feel even closer to home. `Back InThe Highlife' was a great record , it made me feel special to be a Steve Winwood fan then and it continues on until this very day !
Excellent, excellent performance. There are so many of Steve's songs that I love. This is one of them. The first one that introduced me to Steve was While You See A Chance. It'll always be a favourite. Thanks, Steve!
Steve Windwood was a musical prodigy beginning in his early teenage years. He was snuck into pubs to sing and play music. I've read a biography about him.
Even though I'm still waiting... and it's now been over 30 years since I first heard this song... it still makes me feel as if it could happen... what a wonderful syncopated upbeat song!
The song has been going through my head for I don't remember how long, the actual title was right on the tip of my tongue! Then I recognized Steve's voice and googled him, this song was like the first one to pop up!
This is simply one of the best songs of all time. EPIC live version hers, and how awesome is Steve's hammond solo at the end? So tasteful. Thanks Steve for all your brilliant music!
WOW! what at a great arrangement. And still the best singer around, so effortless and soulful all at the same time. I'm guessing the other keyboard player is playing synth bass just like the original recording. Fantastic stuff.
Thank you for this fine creation that you brought into the world; Timeless music. Also, thank you for not speaking out against free speech as others have unwisely chosen to do.
The fact that he doesn't have to bring down the key shows how well he's taken care of his voice for all these years!
Yeah no joke. I have tickets to see one of his extremely rare shows in August. He's with Doobie Brothers. Him and Michael Mcdonald in the same show, what a treat. Maybe not anymore?
I don't think so - the majority always listened to crap but the folks with character listen to guys like Winwood - not to forget he played on the best Hendrix album the organ !
I think his music is globally celebrated but for some crazy reason he’s not a household name like Elton John or Billy Joel.
The genius that is Steve Winwood

WOW. He still sounds as phenomenal now as he did back then.
I’m still in love with this great artist and his amazing voice!
He will not even give himself a mm of reverb to give his voice a little assistance. LEGEND..
What an incredible musician, writer, and composer!!!!! Thanks Steve
Bigger goosebumps listening to this now than when I first heard it nearly 35 years ago. What a fantastic performance by my music hero and his band.
How big of a fan are you Sanjay?
Steve Winwood...very underrated.
50 years ago, more or less, he used to sing “I’m a man”….Now we can say “He’s the man!”

A couple years ago my nephew messaged me that his mom told him I like Steve Winwood... I said no i don’t like him… I LOVE HIM!!!

Winwood is timeless
This came out some time after I graduated HS and was heading towards my 1st marriage and college! It reminds me of the times!
