Hey there. Lovely video. I am having a slight issue, however. At 4:45, when you click the dropdown menu that says "combined" and switch it to "freestyle" I dont see that dropdown menu at all. I've followed the guide to a tee. Might you know what could be causing this?
Awesome video! Thank you for making this, it has been very useful! I just wanted to ask, in freestyle is it possible to use both the "along stroke" as well as the "distance from camera" modifiers at the same time? I keep trying but it ends up only applying one of them depending which modifier is on top. Thanks so much!
Hi satoshikamanaka5004, you should in fact be able to apply multiple modifiers on your freestyle lines within blender simultaneously. I have examples of this on my RUclips channel where I also combine these exact two modifiers. Maybe there’s a little mistake in your setup somewhere? I hope you end up finding the solution. 🙂
Hi B.Dalius. I’m happy to hear that. Thanks! It’s great to know that you’ve enjoyed the tutorial. Wishing you all the best on your creative journey. 😉👍🏻
That was a lucid presentation on Line Art in Blender dude. I got some insight on Grease Pencil (a toughie) functionality too. Thank You and keep up the good work. Looking forward to more tutorials from you. Liked and Subscribed.
Thank you for the kind words Rajkumar Palaniappan. I’m happy to see that you’re enjoying the content on my RUclips channel. Wishing you all the best on your creative journey! 😉👍🏻
Hi Kevin, I haven’t tried that yet, but I assume it might have a few issue such as keeping the line art clean without interruptions due to minor changes in geometry. With the line art modifier it might also be heavier to work with, depending on the density of your geometry. As for drawing over it with the grease pencil, it shouldn’t give too much issue. Hope this helps you a bit further. Wishing you all the best on your creative journey. 😉👍🏻
Great tutorial thanks. is it possible to slide as a stroke effects on object 's contour using line art? In the words, How to trim line art strokes and then how to scroll along contours?
I know that with freestyle line art settings and modifiers you can achieve tons of desired effects. I believe the same is true with the line art modifier for the grease pencil as well.
Thanks for the subscription. I will try to create more content like this once I have some more time again. It’s been very busy and hectic on my end these last few months, but I will most definitely try to get some videos out again soon. 🙂
My project got too heavy for my RTX3090 to handle in edit mode and last year I stumbled into a way to turn off visibility of Line Art (it bogs the edit mode down to unusable lag times) by unticking one checkbox of something in the right hand panel. I can't remember what it was now. Does anyone know which menu has the visibility checkbox that turns all line art modifiers off globally? Otherwise I have to slowly work through 11 items and turn off the visibility, which is cumbersome. The one checkbox was a real time saver, but I forgot where it was located.
Amazing, but I have a question for u. If I draw a grease pencil object in front of my 3d object and use freestyle line to create lines on 3d object. Those freestyle lines are visible through my grease pencil object (which is in front of 3d object). So how we can hide those portion of freestyle lines which are behind of my grease pencil object? Thanks for inspiring us.
Hi CONVEX, that’s a great question you have there and the answer for that can be found within the way you’d compositie both elements within blender. This is too complicated to explain here in simple text, so I’ve added a link to a great video that explains this in detail: ruclips.net/video/j4z0kWlQSdA/видео.html. This is a video from my buddy Paul who specializes in this sort of stuff. His channel is absolutely filled with amazing in-depth tutorials on this kind of stuff. Have a look and I’m sure you’ll find the answers that you’re looking for. Wishing you all the best on your creative journey. 😉👍🏻
Maybe you’ve got it set to render as a separate render pass. In this case the line art never shows up in the render. You have to select the freestyle pass in order to see it separately. If you want it in your render as one layer, then deselect to render the freestyle line render as a render pass.
Sorry I'm new with blender. How to render as animation in freestyle line art? I don't want to render it single frame , change to freestyle at right top and save it everyframe. Thanks! (I know how to render as animated but it come out with combined mode ;(
what is the tablet at 20:48 in the center? cause excluding microsoft surface pro 7 and maybe wacom mobile studio, I haven't found a portable standalone screen tablet that can run blender yet... or are there screen tablets like that ? (I'm still looking for it so please if anyone knows about one let me know :P )
Hi Jura Mucha, the tablet in the middle is an iPad Pro. You can use blender on your iPad Pro by using 3rd party software like Astropad. It streams a clear image of your laptop or desktop towards the iPad Pro. A wired connection between the two gives an even better result. That same company also offers the Luna Display which is hardware that allows for wireless streaming of your screen and provides a perfect image. Drawing tablets with screens are not very cheap, however there are multiple good options out there. Also it’s not a requirement to have a tablet with a screen built-in, but it helps tremendously for line accuracy. You can easily get drawing tablets without screen for less than $100. I hope you end up finding a solution that works best for you. Wishing you all the best on your creative journey.
@@artofdavidarroyo thanks a lot for detailed answer ! I knew some people used iPad as tablet PC extension but I had no idea it's possible to make it also wireless. However I guess it is still dependant on having laptop/desktop PC and therefore it's portability becomes less useful to me as it can't access blender as a stand-alone device :/ also I know these tablets are super expensive (like i mentioned surface pro 7 and mobile studio basically does what I described but both are really pricy ) so I guess for the time being there might not be a perfect solution for me. Still once again thank you for clarifying this for me 😊
Hi toddmaggio2032, first of all… sorry for replying so late. I’ve been swamped with work and life in general in these past few months. I would say that you can most definitely use blender for patent drawings. Wishing you all the best on your creative journey. 😉👍🏻
Hi Kevin, sorry for replying so late. I’ve been swamped with work these last months. I believe you can, but I’d have to verify myself. I can’t say that I’m 100% sure that it’s possible. Wishing you all the best on your creative journey. 😉👍🏻
The last part. What if you had a rigged character and you wanted to change facial expression. Is there a way to make the lines follow when the character deforms?
Hi Karribu, that’s a great question. I’ve never tried it, but I assume if it were to work, it would have to be by parenting the grease pencil with the line modifier to a character that has a facial rig? This would be my guess. 🙂
Hi Christian West, that doesn’t sound too good. I must say that I’ve never encountered that issue before. Is it an issue that you’re getting through the freestyle line renders or through the grease pencil line art?
hey, thx for tutorial. I have 1 problem with lines: "Freestyle: view map creation" written like this and nothing happens for a couple of hours.(eevee, MacBook Pro m1, not such a heavy scene)
Hi Tokmyrza, could it be that you’ve rendered out your freestyle line render as a separate pass? In this case you won’t be able to view the result in the final render. You’ll have to change the combined view to freestyle in the upper right corner of your render window. Maybe that’s what is happening? Hope this helps. Wishing you all the best. 😉👍🏻
Hi sosa3308, first of all, sorry for replying so late. I’ve been swamped with work and life in general these past months. Anyways, the quality of your renders is influenced by many different factors such as the resolution that you’re outputting, the infinite amount of settings, etc. Maybe it’s better to have a look at a good video on RUclips specific to rendering in blender, as helping you through messages on RUclips might be a bit complicated given the many types of things that can influence your renders. Give it a try, if you haven’t already, and I’m going to wish you all the best on your creative journey, and my apologies once again for replying so late. 😉👍🏻
Hi ThatPixelGuy, have you updated blender recently? Maybe you’re running an older version of the software where this option wasn’t available yet? Might be worth checking your blender version. Best of luck, hope this will solve your issue. 😉👍🏻

can this work with other modelling techniques such as characters?
Hi SevenofThr4wn, I assume it would if the geometry is not too complex. Wishing you all the best on your creative journey. 😉👍🏻
hey for my project the option to have my line art as a render pass isn't appearing. I was wondering if it could be buried somewhere in my settings.

Hi code 24603, try exporting as an image sequence with render passes. That should do the trick. 😉
