  • A dress shirt is often accompanied by a tie. So the shirt's neck fits very well with the model. There’s not so much room. The length is pretty long because it's meant to be tucked into pants. You can draft really boxy or fitted by how much ease you have. You can apply this method to women’s shirts as well.
    In this video, I show you how to draft a dress shirt's body patterns from scratch.

    Hi, sorry to sound really stupid as I’m not a trained pattern maker and I’m still learning. Your videos are amazing and really informative. Very clear to understand. However, please can you advise - do I need to add seam allowance to this pattern once it is created following your tutorial instructions please?
    Or can it just be placed straight onto the fabric to cut out and then sew pieces together?
    Thank you for your help or any comments.

    Dear Jin, Once again, thank you very much for your great lessons.
    May I understand when you add 3" to half of the chest, the total ease is 6", right?

    Thank you. 🙏

    • @PatternStudio101
      @PatternStudio101  10 месяцев назад +1

      Yes, 3" on half body, so 6" in total.
      And depending on your coat design or silhouette, you can apply this method.
      You can start with 8-12" ease, but I can't say about that. It really depends on the fit you want! It will be more like jacket because the sleeve cap height is pretty low.

    • @NemoNAzad
      @NemoNAzad 10 месяцев назад

    Hi, thank you for sharing your knowledge. I don't get why you cut 1"(width) from the CF shoulder seam. And you add it to the CB shoulder seam. That means the shoulder CB will go over to the front. As shown in your example. At the cross back of CB is (Ex. 9") Will be the same as CF minus 1/2". I find the length is short to transfer to CB's shoulder. So I did not minus 1/2". CB's shoulder length should be the same length as CF's?. Thank you for your immediate response.

    • @PatternStudio101
      @PatternStudio101  7 месяцев назад

      Depending on posture, armhole depth of front and back can be the same. But for the normal posture, front armhole depth is a little bit shorter than the back armhole depth.
      And if you want to have the shoulder seam on the right shoulder line, you don’t have to move 1” out from the front to the back. That’s the design line.

    Dear Jin, If I drop the shoulder 2 inches (instead of your half-inch example), do I still have to use the midpoint of the dashed cross back guide line to draw the armhole? If yes, the curve is a bit too curvy. Is it ok? Thank you.

    • @PatternStudio101
      @PatternStudio101  9 месяцев назад

      Hi, normally, when you drop the shoulder, your cross chest and chest will be bigger accordingly. So your armhole curve becomes less curvy. Is that make sense?

    • @NemoNAzad
      @NemoNAzad 9 месяцев назад

      @@PatternStudio101 Thank you so much. Yes, perfectly. So, if I drop the shoulder for 2 inches, I better add 1 or 1.5 inches to the cross back to keep the armhole curve shape not too distorted.

    • @PatternStudio101

    Please,I didn't get you clearly, you said to get the sleeve length, how many inches should we deduct from the model's height?

      Hi, you measure the sleeve length from model's body. I don't calculate sleeve length from the model's height.
