    Oh my god, where have you been for the last year as I've been pouring over old or complicated pattern making tutorials. Finally someone made this easier. I've read so many ways to do this and never got it exactly right. The animated illustrations were a really nice touch. Love how you show how to angle the french curve (which is what I most struggle with). I've love to see one for basic sleeves. Great video, my guy. Keep it up! Subscribed!

    Thank you for this! I also bought a pattern making book and the instructions are just so complicated. You toned it down, no excessive info. I also want to do more casual wear and all the books I find are so focused on elegant wear, it's very annoying when you don't actually have anywhere to go with a super haute couture garment haha.
    Plus, I also really want to make men's wear and a lot of the tutorial on the internet are for women. My guess is that they are not that different, but still, it's good to see material specific to men. Thank you so much! I'll suscribe waiting for more. :)

    Drafting a bodice and arm pattern is difficult, if you lack knowledge of how important it is to take correct measurements at certain points of the body and drafting the measurements correctly onto the pattern.
    There are some standards measurements that work great for a baseline.
    Neck hole and shoulder slopes.
    NH 3/4 “x 3” for the back, 3” x 3” for the front. Rounded neckline.
    Shoulder slope. 2” is the average, slope.
    Great video. It definitely gave a great beginning of understanding the pattering and measurements involved.
    Have you made a video about drafting a sleeve ? I just came across your channel.
    I’m trying to construct an old fashioned barn coat.
    I’ve drafted many patterns for shirts, pull overs, shorts and pants. However, I’m sure about the amount of ease.
    Thank you for sharing, keep up the great work.

      @markbieraugel8217 3 года назад +1

      @@BeauWilder I don't, but in trying to make a block or sloper I tried to use the process designed for women. It doesn't really work as men are, as you say, "meat slabs." We're more like big blocks of meat, not many curves. Of course all bodies are different, so I imagine if you have a big chest you may need to make room for that in your pattern, right?

    • @BeauWilder
      @BeauWilder  3 года назад +1

      @@markbieraugel8217 Yes I believe you are absolutely right! Male bodies are more angular than female ones and I think that no matter your shape the rules still apply. I had to restart from the front block because all my vertical mark measurements are from the front, and the sleeves aren't mirror images of eachother.

      It’s important to know how to do things and not be intimidated by all things in class we do learnd and make a video for anywone, it’s simple when you learned it, but when it’s not your branch …
      When you look at RUclips, almost everybody make it so professional , it’s ok if you study in this or want to learnd this way.
      Anyway..
      You should explain when you have the time, how to use the basic block to make a garment ( shirt or pants)

      @@alexvnderh So weirdly... what I do is think more, nipple to nipple... there shouldnt be a curve on the measurement you take if measuring yourself. Check out this video:

      Aww Rafeeq my friend... are you remembering to use your measurements in fractions? Also double check that the measurements you are taking are correct for construction.
      How are you measuring your across back measurement?

      @@rafeeqabrahams5779 Ooooh ok so the across back when I Measure it is a little different. I stand in and hold the tape measure in front of me and measure from armpit to armpit.
      Don't measure it on the body... hold the tape measure tight in front of you. In theory what you are doing is self measuring something you cant do alone. Measuring across your shoulder blades.

      @@BeauWilder so is a fourth of the across back? And how about the chest measure and waist measure? Is it supposed to be marked the fourth of the circumference? My boyfriend is a surfer so he have a big full chest, his chest measure is wider than the across back… if I’m doing it correctly 🙏🏽
