@@BeauWilder Absolutely! I learned to sew making fabric masks early in 2020 when there was a massive shortage. At some point I thought, "Ya know? I could probably make clothes for myself." And being a masochist, I couldn't settle with using commercial patterns. I wanted to learn how to do it self-drafting. I mean, I didn't have anything else I could really do staying at home so much, so I poured into learning as much as I could in it. At this point, as someone who's both big and tall, I'm returning to it so I can make clothes that actually fit me correctly. And, with even most patterns not actually extending to my sizes either, I've been diving into the underlying principles of pattern drafting to see if I can solve this and be happier with the clothes I wear because they are for me instead of some random average big and tall person.
Hey Minneapolis! I really resonate with you with this message. My height has meant I've never found trousers long enough so I am always found wearing a pair of boots! You've really reminded me why I started trying to make my own clothes in the first place... Thank you for that. @@BeauWilder For me, I'm 6'4", with a long torso and, well, an expanded middle. Whenever I find something that's long enough, my middle isn't taken care of. Whenever I find something where my middle's circumference isn't a problem, my torso's length is. I'm 45 and pretty much settled into what I wear. My fashion isn't likely to change much. @@BeauWilder no commercial pattern, I had been watching the indian tailors tutorials in English and Tamil Hindu etc A bit of Ciphering of course . Thanks beau! Gonna follow through with these block tutorials this week and chuck it together from a crappy old bedsheet to see how it fits. One question I have though - when you have your arm in a neutral position when wearing your block I see there's a bit of pinch where the fabric is gathering up at the breast - do you think this is something that would go away if that front panel was stiffer? Is this something you'd consider putting a dart in for? I'm curious 😁
Aww thanks Aias... absolutely get scrappy and figure out what your shape is! Regarding the pinching... honestly... I threw this together so fast that any imperfections were overlooked... eagle eyes ha... I'm going to have to be careful with anything I make now :D

Can you take measurements of any person ( yourself ) . Draft the fabric according to that measurement THEN SEW IT , AT THE END OF THE VIDEO YOU CAN SHOW US THE FINAL RESULT . THIS IS WHAT I WANT , FULL SHIRT TUTORIAL . HOPE YOU WILL DO THAT LOVE FROM 🇮🇳 INDIA
I'm having problems with the back of the neck , i'm learning to draft for men's shirts but as with every other bodice drafting video on you tube (including men's shirts) they all give roughly the same measurement of 2cm. The problem with this is it's way to small and it needs to be deeper and that's going by the fifth of my neck circumference. Any ideas as to where i'm going wrong ?
Hmm that is a complicated one Mark. Are you making a mock up when trying this? You could try and troubleshoot a solution based on the mistakes? What's your neck measurement if you don't mind sharing?
@@BeauWilder I've managed to find a way to do it now that works out bang on , for the back of the neck i divide the neck measurement by 6 then add 1/2" or 1.5cm to the total and that gives me the back of the neck width ( works out more or less the same measurement doing it your way for the back neck width) . What i do then is take the back neck width measurement ( including the 1/2" or 1.5cm added on) and divide that by 3 and then add 1/2" or 1.5cm on again to that total and that gives me the depth of the back neck measurement. The front neck is worked out exactly the same in your video , i found that it works the neck out spot on. I'm learning to be a bespoke shirt maker and the pattern drafting has been a headache to learn as i'm more or less self taught so it's taken me quite a few years but i'm nearly there.
@@BeauWilder Oh and by the way your videos are good mate , very clear and easy to understand , not like a fair amount of other videos on here that tend to go like lightning with music in the background or some that are total shite at explaining how it works. I'm learning that once you get the basics down and understand how it basically works then alot can be trial and error and messing about to achieve what your looking for.

Wow Antony, you're a melting pot of ideas... I stand by the bit where you said "Could just do all of it" ha ha ha. Do you pattern yourself or do you combine commercial patterns when making things?
@@BeauWilder
no commercial pattern,
I had been watching the indian tailors tutorials in English and Tamil Hindu etc
A bit of Ciphering of course .
Then I made a dress form with duct tape and a long sleeve t,
but doing that on my own
the shoulders were wonky, and it was the sleeves and shoulders I was have trouble with. So not very helpful .
I also used a couple of shirts that fit well here and another there etc
Basically the trouser or tops ended up needing "ease"
Your post are crystal clear and well edited ( clever work )
And a timely discovery since
I was about to take apart the few clothing items that did fit well to use as patterns
Antony my man you are a resourceful creature! All this effort as well so you can create from your mind and not a commercial pattern!
I hope to see you here again... please let me know if there is anything you're struggling with and I'll see what I can do!
@@BeauWilder Thank you Beau, very kind of you.
My deepest gratitude for your sharing knowledge and inspiration.

Yassssssssssss!!!!!! 😝
Legend! Great videos, helpful and fun. Great work with the animations (and the sound design lol). Please keep them coming. I bet you'll grow a good community in no time. I suggest you get an IG too! - maybe you do but I couldn't find you.
Andres you cheerleader! Thanks for this... I should probably look into an IG shouldn't I... I haven't got one yet but I'll see if I can look into it this week... Scouts honor... I'm a man of my word
Amazing! Great work!
Theerrnnnkkk Yeewww
@@BeauWilder that's fair enough! It is a block after all 😁 I think I'd prefer to be on your side of this equation and able to actually push through and do things without crippling myself with needless perfectionism 😂😂
Still though, I feel much more enabled to push ahead cause of this vid, so thanks again! Looking forward to seeing more stuff from you in the future 😁
HOPE YOU WILL DO THAT
LOVE FROM 🇮🇳 INDIA
LOVE YOU INDIA!
Yes It is something I am working on next if life would allow me... ha ha ha... great suggestion
India 🇮🇳🇮🇳🇮🇳🇮🇳🇮🇳
Woo I see you India!
What book would you recommend that covers this? Thanks
I have made so many screen shots🙄😂
Ha ha ha h... don't put ideas in my head... I'll end up making a book!
@@BeauWilder good idea

I wish i’de watched this video before damaging kms of fabric trying to step away from this lady Gaga’s Mva’s 2000 something kind of shoulders sleeves. 😁
Ha ha ha... It's all a learning curve! Plus one should never feel disappointed when the result is a Lady Gaga sleeve! Ha ha
