    I found my bodice was slightly bigger. So may increase the size of my sleeve to see how that goes when made up and fitted. Your instruction has been very beneficial and easier to understand than most others I’ve come across. Thank you.

    Thank you for this awesome lesson. Not only did you teach us how to draft the sleeve sloper, but you taught us the exact relationship between the sleeve cap height, and the arm hole length. Should be a marriage made in heaven!
    Best of the new year to you!

    I've watched a few of your drafting tutorials now and I think I'm going to start with your videos before bothering with any one else's anytime I need to learn (or re-learn) pattern drafting skills. Your methods are exactly what I learned in fashion school and you teach it at the right speed. There are some other good tutorials out there, but I always feel confident that I'm doing it right when I follow your tutorials.... and my patterns have come out perfect the first time using your method instead of having to constantly second guess my work when I use other tutorials......THANK YOU!

    This is the best and most straight-forward video on drafting sleeves I have ever seen. So glad you didn't feel the need to include distracting background music or a wordy video introduction. I also liked the pace of the video. I'm really looking forward to your pant drafting video. Thanks so much.

      Thanks Millicent. A pant drafting video is in the planning stages, but may take a while. Skirt draft is next.

    Thank you! I have been fighting with sleeve and armholes for a very long time. As a big girl, most instructions for makings slopers don't seem to take that into account. Your method works exceedingly well. I only had to make an adjustment of 1 cm. I am looking forward to the rest of your your videos. They are clean, logical and precise. Just the way pattern drafting should be.

    I've been learning to draft sewing patterns over the past few years. For the sleeve, I began using the diagonal line and points at various amounts to create the curves and then discovered the Quarter-fold method which I find easier to follow. However, your tutorial was so interesting -- haven't seen a sleeve made from the armscye method before and really like the result! Thank you for explaining this so clearly and think this will be a great one to use when drafting for a 2 piece sleeve.

I scoured the comments of this one to see if the skirt half was coming soon. So happy to see that it is so that I will have the whole dress!! :) Thank you so much for sharing your expertise and hope by now you are feeling better.

    Being older and "curvy" and a little wonky because of surgeries it has been a real struggle trying to get clothes to fit. I have bought many fitting books, watched fitting videos and gotten so frustrated I was ready to quit trying. Then I came across your drafting video's.. I made my first sloper this week and couldn't be happier. I had to fuss with the shoulders ,sloping and forward , a bit but I am so pleased with the way the muslin turned out. Not perfect but so much better than the others I tried. Watched this one for the sleeve and will tackle it tomorrow. It may take me another week because I know I will have to fuss with it too but all in all this has been the first time I have felt positive about my sewing since I could just open a commercial pattern and sew many many years ago. Thank you so much. And more videos please. LOL

      I'm looking into doing a pant, however; it's quite involved. Many professional pattern makers would rather work from an existing pattern, or rip up a pant to extract the pattern, rather than starting from scratch.

    Really excited to try out this method of drafting sleeves. I have now read about a few different methods, but they all draft the sleeve without using the "eye" method, and they seem to include some arbitrary numbers that I'm not sure where they come from. Your method is so straightforward, and I think it's easy to see how this method corresponds to fitting the body! Trying it out soon. Thanks!

    Thanks for this tutorial. I recently discovered your channel and only drafted and sewed the bodice slower yesterday, using your first two videos. It worked extremely well and was desperate to find out how to do the sleeve. I spent about two hours last night trawling RUclips and various blogs trying to find out how to do this - I was left very frustrated and confused as none of them referenced the original bodice to see if it would fit. I'm so excited to try this today. Will you be doing a two or even three part sleeve tutorial at some point in the future? Stay well.

    It would be cool if you could discuss sleeves typical of the victorian era and shirtwaists, in which the shoulder seam is typically back of the current standard, and the sleeve is divided into a back and front, with a curve at the elbow.

    Hi Chris, do you think this method can also work for kids, I mean the 1/3 inch up and the 3/8 inch down? Also do we still have to consider some extension to the arm length due to arm folding ? Please let me know, Thanks for your great videos!

    not only do i watch your videos i also read ALL the comments and it is official your videos are the best. i truly would love to see you at work with fabric. you and your system have made the impossible possible for someone like myself . i am looking for paper at the moment so i can get started. all so do you know where we could find the french curve you use. i have tried to find it online but with no luck so i just bought what i thought would do. it has not arrived yet. i only have one remark about the videos. you film with you paper side on and i find myself turning my head to see it as it it was the right way up lol lol Thank you again for making me feel that dress making is doable. x

      Teaching yourself is difficult. I didn't do it. Take classes if you can find them. They will prevent you from making many mistakes. I've been asked many times for a pant draft. It's in the planning stages, but don't hold your breath.

  • @janasrinath

    I just finished maing this draft and it has come out very well Thank you! I did have to reduce the sleeve cap and reduce the armhole line at the sides by half an inch. The arms eye initially looked far more almond shaped compared to yours and the total measurement was a little over two inches extra. Once I sew it up Ill let you know how it it. Oh and can one also sew this sleeve flat or does it have to be set in?

    • @christophersartorial7671
      @christophersartorial7671  4 года назад

      If you want the sleeve cap higher, you typically will need to reduce the upper arm width. A high capped sleeve should be set in after sewing the side seam and under sleeve seam (in the round). Low capped sleeves may be sewn to the armhole first (flat).

    Hi Chris, hope you are well and thank you for your videos again. At around 9.46 minutes you mention that your armhole circumference was 18 and 3/4 inches. Where is this measurement from? Is this taken from your dress form or from the bodice armhole measurements? My arm's eye (armscye?) always measures a whole lot more than my bodice armholes, almost two or three inches more. Please help! What could I be doing wrong? Thanks.

    A wonderful tutorial. Had been searching for this kind of a tutorial for long.....I made a test fit for my twin daughters .it came out really really well.A perfect fit !!!! A small correction asked by my daughters is that when they raise their hands ,the side bodice is pulled up more than their regular outfits.please let me know ,where I could have gone wrong.And also when will you be uploading your next video.Is it shirt or pant tutorial ?

    • @christophersartorial7671
      @christophersartorial7671  4 года назад +1

      In the case of your daughter's bodice riding up when she raises her arms, it is likely that the armhole of the bodice is too low, or the under seam of the sleeve is too short (or both). If she has plenty of room in the upper arm, then try making the armhole higher at the side. This will make the armhole smaller, and necessitate redrafting the sleeve with a longer under seam as well. If her upper arm is already close, you'll need to make the sleeve cap shallower, which will make it longer in the under seam, and wider at the upper arm. I'm hoping to demonstrate a man's shirt draft next.

    Thanks for this video it is the most straight forward video I have seen, but I have a problem figuring out how to measure from the armhole seam to the wrist if I am measuring on a figure with full arm or on a person. Do I measure the length on the side of the person or the side of the arm being measured I am a bit confused. I know this video was done a long time ago. but I will really appreciate the clarification. Thanks.

    • @christophersartorial7671
      @christophersartorial7671  3 года назад +1

      If you have no shoulder seam from with to measure, then start measuring at the center back neck, over the shoulder, then down to the wrist. Subtract the half shoulder measurement when drafting the sleeve pattern.

    i don't know why but i had to do this over at least 17 times!!i nailed the bodice in an hour.this took five hours!!i'm a size 0-1 and my sleeve kept coming out looking like a sleeve pattern for a beluga whale.it was huge!it dawned on me after 15 failed attempts that i wasn't dividing the wrist measurement by 4 as well as the upper arm.i'd been sewing for 6 hours straight so i was tired too.either that,or i need to sew myself a new brain.

    • @christophersartorial7671
      @christophersartorial7671  6 лет назад +1

      17 times??? I guess I need to give more clear directions. The sleeve can be challenging. It takes a bit of trial and error to get one that matches the length of your armhole plus any additional ease.

    • @whatshername3158

      oh no,your directions were perfect!i was too tired but kept insisting!the bodice went just fine.i made a whole dress thanks to your tutorials.i was unable to do anything a couple weeks ago!so your directions are obviously very precise!i was wondering if you could show how to make a puff sleeve.i was able to make one based on a modification of your basic sleeve pattern but i would likke to know the proffessional method.thanx so much for your vids!

      Thank you for posting this, I was having the same problem! I did this twice and both times ended up with a huge opening (in fact it was double of what it should have been!)... I too was not dividing the wrist by 4. lol. Entirely my own fault for not paying attention close enough.

    Chris my ease points are behind the mid point of wrist open horizontal line. Like the sleeves ease mid point it behind the sleeves midsection. Is that ok?

    Hi Chris, thank you for your incredibly helpful tutorials. So far I have made fitted bodice and skirt sloper following your tutorials with great success. I hope you will do more tutorials in the future. I have a question regarding this sleeve sloper which I tried today. I just finished attaching my sleeves to my fitted bodice blouse and my arm movement was really restricted. Is it better to do a low cap sleeve for a fitted bodice? I am hoping to use this sleeve pattern to also make a dress using your fitted bodice dress tutorial. I would be ever so grateful if you had any tips for fixing my restrictive arm movement problem. Thank you.

    • @christophersartorial7671
      @christophersartorial7671  Год назад +1

      Sorry for the late reply. If you wish to keep the sleeve cap high it may be necessary to raise the armhole. Alternately, you can lower the sleeve cap which lengthens the sleeve inseam.
