Thank you for making so clear, not cutting corners and most importantly staying on track. I m so tire of tutorials getting off the subject and wasting time. I am so glad I have found your channel.
Thanks Alan. Originally I had some videos on my site just for paying members but now all my videos are freely available. I sell my patterns and membership and free videos is a good way to introduce people to my site. But I don't mind if people just enjoy the videos. I really appreciate your comment.
Alan Longwani yes very greedy they are because they want the knowledge all to themselves or you either pay money in exchange to get it,,smh so sad but thanks for sharing this God bless you plenty!
This is one of the lessons I was looking forward for a long time, this will be useful even for the school children around the world who likes sewing. Thank you for your generous teaching!
Chrysanths Thanks so much. I'm gradually sharing all my videos rather than having some by subscription/membership. Fan Funding is the way forward and will become much more important in future for video. I am creating more patterns and ebooks for members or to buy but in future videos will all be free but of course will continue to feature my own patterns.
I have just started following your videos. I am from the U. S. and I am so glad your videos are done using the inch measurements. In 5 months I will be 65. I don't know why I have waited so long to learn how to draft my own patterns. Thank you so much.
Thank you. You are a wonderful teacher. :) Even though this is not a T-shirt. This information is excellent to get a start on garment drafting. I look forward to getting stuck in. I do not have a set square yet. I will see where I can get a good sized one. So far what I did was buy a small child's T-Shirt at a thrift shop (To make the copy from). The reason for this was to reduce the material cost, support a charity, and have a source of very cheap material that I can learn on. I am really looking forward to making my own simple T-shirts. Take care.
I tried many times to make my own body block and always failed! I'm excited to try your version, you are my favourite sewing source! Thank you so much for these tutorials Angela, is very nice of you to share (: Hugs from Spain!

Thank you so very much for this video! I could weep with relief: I finally understand something after watching several other tutorials on the topic and feeling like it's all rocket science!
Oh thank you for this video post. The most informative I've seen. my daughter is at college doing her third year in fashiin and clothing. She has now started this term doing pattern cutting and is a bit thrown. This will help her alot. x
Thank you so much. I still remember learning it at college. My best advice is to understand the basics then just keep drafting and making up in cheap fabric or calico and try things out. Rip out seams and slash pattern pieces just to see what can be done. Experience is what matters. I have recently been scrutinising and testing methods in many of the current books on pattern cutting just for my own interest. I'm amazed by all the different methods and also the very differing results!
I have finally done make my own draft fit prefect on my body shape can use to make my own clothing . Plus the viedos are to understand and your PDF are very handy to have plus the patterns. Thanks again for these amazing viedos and websit.
cathyalyna Thank you so much. I'm glad you are finding it helpful. Pattern Cutting frightens many sewers and it is quite difficult to explain but once you get used to doing it, the logic behind it becomes clear.

Use the regular paper side to draft on as the shinny side is not very cooperative to write in. The advantage is that if you want to have a stiff copy for extended lasting you can iron it on to an additional cut of freezer paper.
You can print my patterns on to any kind of paper that is either A4 or Letter size. You can even use lightweight card. Any media that your printer takes. We don't get freezer paper in the UK as far as I know but yes, that sounds like a good idea.

Brilliant videos! Very simple and easy to understand. Thank you! I have a small request: I want to learn how to make gowns. I've made a couple of gowns but they just don't look neat enough. I would use a marker if I was making it now. I hope you are finding the New Pattern Cutting Series is clearer using Diagrams - ruclips.net/video/m_hm5YLZaDM/видео.html
I always admire your videos for clear instruction and insights! I am looking for the set square you use on this video, which is equipped with both cm and inches, but I have been unable to find a purchase site. Could you please tell me where I can get this?
Misako T. Hi, yes I'm always being asked. Here is a link to a very old established 'rag trade' supplier and I got mine from here when I was studying fashion years ago www.macculloch-wallis.co.uk/p/82620/pattern-making-equipment/mw/graders-set-square Thank you so much for commenting.
Thank you so much for paying attention to my little question! I visited your suggested link, but the available one from the store was metric only. However, thanks to you, I now know that it is called a "graders set square," I further searched and found one that has both cm and inches: www.eastmanstaples.co/index.php/combination-graders-square.html. I hope this is of help to other people.
Hi, I really love your videos, and I am already _so_ grateful for your efforts, and because of that I don't know if I'm asking too much, but when you display values in your videos, could you make two columns, one for inches, etc, and one for metric values? Thanks a lot for this channel though!

MsKJ2007 Hello, The information for variables appears in the PDF which is currently only available to members or to buy. I have though added the variables to my Free Videos page here. I hope that helps. angelakane.com/sewing_videos/sewing_lessons_pattern-drafting.php
brilliant video, very easy to understand,. also can i ask, when and how do you add any "ease" into the pattern and how much ease should i add, thanks in advance
Hello Glynis, There is a difference between wearing and design ease. Wearing ease is factored into the sloper when it is drafted so for an average size, close fitting block, the most important consideration is the ease at bust level which is at least 4”/10cm, that’s 2” on the half pattern. There should be at least 3” or 1½” on the half pattern ease at the hips. Everything else can be considered design ease. You may like to draft blocks with design ease added as well. If you want a basic jacket block for example, you would add extra ease to accommodate garments underneath, you would increase the ease at bust and hips, you would draft a lower under arm point, have a wider sleeve and extend the shoulder point. So it is quite difficult to be prescriptive about design ease as it all depends on the style and the garment’s purpose in life. I hope that helps a little. Ultimately it is about trying things out using cheaper fabric and gaining experience. Thank you so much for your interest in my videos and good luck with your projects.
hello Angela, Thank you so much your videos are amazing thankyou very much for making this information available. Can you recommend a pattern making book?
An 18" collar is a 54" chest for a man's shirt. My man's cut shirt pattern is aimed at women and my sizes only go up to 44" bust. I hope to add more patterns for men in the future.
Hi Angela Kane! What if bust is way bigger than the hips? (bust is at 41 and hips is at 37). Would I just draw a straight line from the bust and just make the hips 41" instead of 37"?
Hello, This tutorial is in inches and the variables on my site - angelakane.com/sewing_patterns/pattern-cutting/ - are also in inches. However my New Pattern Cutting Series - ruclips.net/video/m_hm5YLZaDM/видео.html - is metric.
How do I take the measurements from the body and convert them into inches in order to create the sloper? and does that method work for making menswear Sloper's?
Yes, I agree with you. This is one of my early tutorials and it would be good to re do it. Have you seen the new metric version? ruclips.net/video/m_hm5YLZaDM/видео.html
I'm a big fan of Natalie Bray. I studied pattern cutting in the 70s and it was essential reading! I use many references and of course my experience over the years for developing my patterns. Most pattern drafting books are quite difficult to follow. I try to make my methods easy for beginners but also useful for pattern cutters/designers generally. Thank you so much for subscribing.
I appreciate your videos, been a subscriber for over a year. Quick question please, where's the link to watch how to draft a fitted bodice? I mean with waist darts and all. Meanwhile, great job. You make it easy.
Hi, I haven't produced a video yet of the fitted bodice but it is on my list. It is included in my eBook series but I do intend to put a version out for free on RUclips - hope you can wait. angelakane.com/sewing_ebooks Thank you so much supporting my site.
please i wanna learn sewing but i just don't know from where should i start am comfused can make atutorial about this pleasssssse - watching u from iraq 😊
Hi, Have you watched my Sewing for Beginners series? - Here is the playlist - ruclips.net/p/PLU_hpXrimvBeGPDSryXw1Ko7paROlV3k9 Make the Simple Sleeveless Top and you were learn basics of sewing.
Hello Bertha, A mermaid skirt is very fitted so it would be a question of taking say my pencil skirt pattern - angelakane.com/sewing_patterns/patterns/pencil-skirt-sewing-pattern-483.php and curving the side seam in as much as you need for the look you want. Also shape the back seam below the seat. Bear in mind that you need to walk so you need a back or side slit.
Hello Astrid. All the variables are freely available on my site - angelakane.com/sewing_patterns/pattern-cutting/. The PDF eBook describing in detail drafting the bodice and sleeve can be purchased here - angelakane.com/amember/cart/index/product/id/152/c/
Hi Sophia, Yes, originally this series was just for my members and the instructional PDF containing the variables was included. Now this series is free, I have included the link in places but you may have missed it. The variables are on this page - angelakane.com/sewing_patterns/pattern-cutting/ Thank you so much for your comment!
Lupe Esparza I am using old tracing paper stuck together with sellotape. When completed I will stick it onto the back of some wallpaper I found in a roll
What’s most confusing is when she adds other measurements that you may or not be. Thank for the video but like others I need to take classes. It’s hard when actually it’s just hard to understand if I’m not in front of someone learning and asking questions
Thank you for making so clear, not cutting corners and most importantly staying on track. I m so tire of tutorials getting off the subject and wasting time. I am so glad I have found your channel.

Hello Angela
1st i would like to thank you for taking the time to make all the videos. i am about to start out on my journey of trying to make my own clothes. and all so for my family members if i get any good at it.
i am spending time gathering bits and bobs that i hope will help me with this venture. i have on order a french curve and a hip curve. But i would like to ask you about your set square. it looks like it has metric and imperial on it and would like to ask you do you know where i can get the same one.
i was following your every move and could see what a boom your set square is for this job.
i know if i keep watching the videos and stopping and starting it i will be able to follow you and hopefully i will have a work in progress at the end of it.
i will be going out tomorrow to see if i can get some paper for drafting.
Thank you again so much. i now feel like i have a chance of doing this. x
Hello Hazel, Thank you so much for your comment. I'm pleased to hear how you are getting into pattern cutting.
You can order the set square in metric, imperial or both here - www.williamgee.co.uk/shop/grader-set-squares/.

Thank you very much for your teaching method, can you also do a video on drafting basics bodies with waist dart?.

Hi Angela Kane! What if bust is way bigger than the hips? (bust is at 41 and hips is at 37). Would I just draw a straight line from the bust and just make the hips 41" instead of 37"?
Hi Angela
I'm looking for how to make a back curve in the middle of the back pattern?
Do you mean more shaping for a hollow back? You can easily take a curve out of the back seam at the fitting stage.
Thank you! But its too tricky to do it myself..
You are sooo good
Thank you so much.
ANGELA KANE how to measure
From about 1:20 will show you how to take measurement.
I like it... Thank u
YOU ARE AWESOMEEEEEEEEEEEE
Thanks for the illustrations, please can you kindly convert the pattern cutting variables to inches, I really do not understand centimeters. Thanks
Hello, This tutorial is in inches and the variables on my site - angelakane.com/sewing_patterns/pattern-cutting/ - are also in inches. However my New Pattern Cutting Series - ruclips.net/video/m_hm5YLZaDM/видео.html - is metric.
Good Day,
will you please tell me, How would i measure shoulder slope...?
How do I take the measurements from the body and convert them into inches in order to create the sloper? and does that method work for making menswear Sloper's?
I would like to see how to make pattern for pants
I have four trouser patterns including Women's Jeans and Men's Selvedge Jeans
See my Sewing Patterns here - angelakane.com/sewing_patterns/
Thank you for this tutorial please could you just help me more by making the lines a bit darker l can't see them very well Thank you all the same

I don't get the connection between pattern drafting and the design of the item. When taking measurements how do you decide the design of the piece
Hello 😊 Are seam allowances added here at this stage or later, thank you ☺️
Later
The top line 1/2 bust + 2 to 3inches is it not going to be too loose, why not just 1/2 bust?
very very nice
Thanks very much.
Amazing, you have a new subscriber. Did you teach pattern making Natalie bray? Any link to it id you did. Thanks
Very interesting to know. Really your method is very easy to understand. Thanks so much
how do we measure the half bust length?
I appreciate your videos, been a subscriber for over a year. Quick question please, where's the link to watch how to draft a fitted bodice? I mean with waist darts and all. Meanwhile, great job. You make it easy.
Hi, I haven't produced a video yet of the fitted bodice but it is on my list. It is included in my eBook series but I do intend to put a version out for free on RUclips - hope you can wait. angelakane.com/sewing_ebooks

Hello. What happens if you want to turn the pattern into V-neck? I sometimes experience gaping. Do we also have to reduce seam length by the armhole?
thank you
Thanks for your comment.
What if the pattern that i made was to fit people who wear a medium-sized clothing, how do i convert it to small, large, x-large...
Golden Vibes that is called "grading" if you search "how to grade a pattern" you should find what you are looking for :)
hi i am a nift mumbai student and I want to ask can I use these measurements for size 8 mannequin?
I have a question how can I make a mermaid pattern for a dress or a skirt?
Hello Bertha, A mermaid skirt is very fitted so it would be a question of taking say my pencil skirt pattern - angelakane.com/sewing_patterns/patterns/pencil-skirt-sewing-pattern-483.php
and curving the side seam in as much as you need for the look you want. Also shape the back seam below the seat. Bear in mind that you need to walk so you need a back or side slit.
Okay, thank you so much for all your help. Once again thank you for viedos and website.

We're do you get your pattern paper
Lupe Esparza I am using old tracing paper stuck together with sellotape. When completed I will stick it onto the back of some wallpaper I found in a roll
Thank you for the video. Please what are back waist and front waist. How does one get the measurements? Thank you.
Back Waist Length and how to measure it, is explained at 1:45. I don't think I mention a Front Waist measurement.
What’s most confusing is when she adds other measurements that you may or not be. Thank for the video but like others I need to take classes. It’s hard when actually it’s just hard to understand if I’m not in front of someone learning and asking questions
Ms. Shaw if you think this is bad, try the metric one.
