Thank you!

Thank you for the kind words and thank you for watching. It sounds like you have a wonderful quality machine. Good luck with the alterations and sewing adventures.
Extremely grateful for sharing this method of drafting, took me 45 mins to finish the entire thing from drafting to sample. So nicely explained! Thank you.
I went to artschool to do visual communication, i like it but halfway through i found out that i really wanted to be a fashion designer above all. Unfortunately my life hit a long rough patch and im ashamed to say i didnt fight back the way i should have for a long time...11 years to be exact. I found your channel on instagram a year ago and was blown away by your talent. Im at fashion school now. Thanks to our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ i made it and your videos have been the only true source of inspiration and help, i strive to be like you one day. God bless You Mr. Quiring.
Thank you for sharing a bit about yourself. It's great to get to hear from the folks, like yourself, watching my videos. Good on you for being able to make it back onto the path that you desired. It's less about the time and more the fact that you eventually did.
Cornelius, thank you so much. I just found you on RUclips & am now a subscriber!! I've been searching for the type of videos you have posted on constructing men's clothing. Now I can make my spouse's shirts for Christmas this year. You are wonderful and know your youtube channel is a blessing to sewist's like me. Again, thank you, thank you, thank you!
I used to brute-force my way around sewing when I was in high school and I havent picked it up in around 12 years. My GOD how I wish this channel was around when I was younger, I might have kept with it. I’m excited to start experimenting with it.
Never have I seen a tutorial/lesson explained so well. Thank you. I just got into Cosplay and this knowledge is going to help immensely. Subscribed, liked, and so forth! Thank you.
Brillant tutorial! Two things I might want to add: if you measured your shoulder depth, i.e. how much lower is your shoulder on the furthest point than where it meets your neck, you might be able to shorten the trial and error phase quite a bit regarding that detail. Also: if you make your first prototype of just the bodice before drafting the sleeves, you can fix issues with the armholes without having to redraw a sleeve that wouldn't fit anymore after the adjustments.
I am just getting back into sewing, as I am one of those odd sized guys that nothing off the rack ever fits (think short, fat hobbit dude). Patterns for someone as off the scale so far as measures go are literally impossible to find, so I'm in this area of want (need) for creating my own patterns to work with. What you just gave me was more valued and deeply appreciated that you will ever know, and I don't exaggerate. I now have that little "guide" via this tutorial on how to correctly fit my patterns; so that they fit my strangely odd measurements. This also gives me a better idea as to how I can alter the clothing I have hanging in my closet that are ill-fitting and in need of shortening and narrowing (when it comes to the neckline...widening). My humble thanks. You helped a pretty frustrated man today who was just about to give up on being able to wear shirts that actually fit. Thank you so very much.
I am so very happy to hear this. Thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts. I am glad that something I enjoy is also of value to others such as yourself. Happy sewing my friend and may you finally have the wardrobe you desire! 🙏🏻
Oh this is the first time I could actually understand how to make adjustments, I just can't express how much I am happy and grateful to have found your video, I think now I feel like I CAN get to learn how to sew! And you sound so peaceful and gentle, it's soothing!Thank you! ❤️
this is a sensational revelation for me! I have seen dozens of measurement methods in books and dozens more in videos. Many of them were logically inconsistent, impracticable in practice, or simply anatomically incorrect. Thank you for showing us how it really works.
This is brilliant, you've answered all my questions! I'm just preparing to start sewing again after a 6 month break, so I've come back for more of your excellent tutorials. Thank you!

That's awesome. I'm happy to hear that my video is understandable for you. Good luck with your project and hopefully it turns out well for you. Thank you for watching and sharing your thoughts.
I noticed in the description that you provided a link to the shears that you use. My mother supplemented her income for years by sewing custom fitted clothing for her patrons. She was quite good and took it seriously I suppose because I'll never forget one day when she caught my brother and I cutting cardboard with her shears. She let out the most blood curdling scream I ever heard which scared us and sent my father running to see who had been murdered. Some people are really attached to their tools. 🤣
Thank you Cornelius for this free and amazing information!! You're one of few RUclipsrs that is teaching how to draft patterns for mens wear. Subscribed 👍
Superb tutorial, answering every question step by step which is popping up in my mind while watching video. Thankyou so much. A perfect teaching guide.
Great video, thank you Cornelius! You really take the time to explain things clearly and the pace is perfect. You truly are a fantastic teacher, and the fact that you share it with the world says a lot about your generosity. Do you make custom shirts by any chance?
Oh wow, I‘m just working on your how to draft men‘s pants and thought how awesome it were if you did more tutorials like this. :-) Your style of explaining is so easy to follow and I‘m very grateful that you provided both inch & cm. Looking forward to do this one as well! Thx!
Oh, nice. Well, I am happy to hear that you are using the pants video and hopefully this one delivers for you as well. Keep me posted on how both projects turn out, it's always nice to hear from people who use the content.
As many other people have already said, thank you so much for making this video (and all your videos). You deliver information perfectly, and your production quality is out standing (you're also pretty nice to look at =w=). Please keep it up
This is my first tutorial, and I'm excited to learn something new. I'm currently studying computer science and engineering in India, but I'm here to develop a new skill that will be really valuable in my life. My mom is a talented tailor, and I've realized how precise and skilled she is in cutting and stitching. I want to learn her craft and perfect it so I can confidently stitch my own clothes. I'm subscribing to your channel for future reference-thank you for helping me on this journey!
This is the perfect companion to the sewing books I have that talk about collars, pockets, buttons, and zippers, but don't actually talk about the rest of the garment. I'm used to just tracing the shirt that fits the most and then fixing where it doesn't really work (I have some teen clothes that fit okay, but the arms are too short). This should help me fix a few of those issues I couldn't quite understand what to do with.
first of all, i like the country guitar sound on the background. You are so great a teacher. I am so new to sewing, in fact i don't know where to begin. I am so glad to begin with you after searching for a while. Thanks Man!
Oh nice, well know that the challenge will be worth it. I too struggle with my own makes. Thanks for sharing a bit about yourself and thanks for watching.
I just had another person mention collars, so maybe I dedicate a whole video to this type of content :) Thanks for the kind words and thanks for watching.
This tutorial of drafting a pattern for a top is just as good at the one on trousers.... you make it so easy to understand and follow. And I just love it. I have sewn a few garments using the Lutterloh system, and are satisfied by that, but are going to try my hands on your way next... Christmas is coming up, so it will be a new shirt for that.
Oh, wonderful, I'm glad to hear that you appreciate my efforts and thank you for watching. Let me know how it goes if you end up using this video. Also, I haven't heard of Lutterloh before, I'll have to check it out!
Hey brother gonna be trying this here soon, about to get my first sewing machine. All your tutorials have been helping me get mentally prepared fot this journey. Thank you for your amazing work
@@CorneliusQuiring hey sir, do you have a video on what to set the sewing machine to depending on the fabrics or a general rule you go by or the type of string you need for certain fabrics? Thats my main grey area on everything right now. Much love, have a amazing day
I started watching this to help me with designing a nice modern tailcoat (I was also watching your video on that as well) but then started zoning out because your voice is so soothing
One advice on taking measures, taking it several times is a great tip, but I'd also compare your measurements with a size chart from whatever book you follow. That allows you to make sure you are didn't measure incorrectly and have a value off by too much.
Oh my gosh, I have had such a hard time drafting patterns for my dude and I could not find anyone who explained things in a clear way. I have ended up crying at some points trying to get all of my measurements and points and proportions to make sense. Then I found this guy and it all makes sense now. Thank you so much!
Oh wonderful, I am glad my video help you in the process of sewing a men's pattern. Your dude is luck to have you sew for him. Thanks for watching and good best wishes with future sewing projects.
This is an excellent presentation and explanation. A couple of my students are from indigenous cultures in which there is no written language, so explaining math concepts takes some skill since math is understood quite differently in their cultures. Also, I think for any student, it is helpful to hear the repeats of the information from different teachers, because it helps memory. New students are acquiring both information as well as “muscle memory” as they learn to use tools. I use a .3 mechanical pencil for consistency, and I encourage students to use a mechanical pencil because as the yellow pencils are worn down and sharpened, the thickness of the line varies. When there is a fat line abutting or crossing a thin line. Students often are not consistent when they measure from one side of each line or the other throughout the pattern. Differences as small as 1/16” duplicated four or more times, can eventually add up to quite a difference. I also encourage them to first place the point of the pencil on the paper, then align the ruler next to the pencil lead, and then draw the lines. And remind them to take an overall look to see if they have consistently lined up and drawn the line so that it intersects with the point marked for same, rather than alternating the side of the point where they lineup the ruler and mark the line. I learned all this from the late Roberta Carr who had some very interesting stories about how to mark and draw lines. I look forward to your other videos!
Thanks so much for this video! I truly appreciate the time and effort you take to talk through every detail and provide visual explanations. And to edit such a long video that is super easy to follow, and really you give us all that is needed to create the perfect shirt for our needs! And for free! You make a lot of people very happy, you know! I sew a pair of pants with the guidance of your pants' drafting video (they turned out great) and for a long time was really hoping you would make one on drafting a shirt as well! And now you have! I will definitely try this out, and am also looking forward to the next video about creating a button-up shirt.. store-bought ones never fit me right. :D P.S. I think it's cool that you keep the interludes short and informative, not dragging them out like many others do ;)
Thank you for the very kind words about my work. I appreciate you telling me. I am also glad to hear that your pants turned out well for you. Let me know how it goes with the shirt pattern once you get to it. I'm busy working away on the button-up shirt now and will post it once it's ready. Thank you again.
So very useful and informative. For the last 3 years, i've been making Christmas shirts for my partner and 3 adult sons, from a commercial pattern. They're all very different shapes and sizes and I've struggled to make them a better fit (I last sewed in Domestic Studies at school, some 40 years ago!!) This video will hopefully give the shirts a much better outcome (although they're all grateful that I take the time to make a handcrafted gift, and indeed wear them all year round :) ) Thank you!

I'm turning this video into a crafting night drinking game where we draft shirt patterns but also have to do a shot everytime Cornelius says "just so".
The best so far. Explanation is so clear and it’s like buying a book for $100 and spending tuition for a month in few minutes. Love your content and thank you so much for this valuable information.
You basically go through the issues I had on my first shirt: arm hole issue, neck line, front/back adjustment, and getting overall length right. Great video,
@@CorneliusQuiring I actually just made a perfect t-shirt today. Made a pattern from a favorite t-shirt. 85% stretch on the neckline. Made it 2" longer at the hem. Just need to thread my other machine to finish the hem with a double needle overlock. That is what takes a long time: threading machines.

thank you for such a detailed and clear video. THE most informative and clear video on sewing i have ever watched. | Nobody explains the why's better than you do.
No way!!! Man really thank you a lot I never imagined some one will explain all these infos without hiding some impoertant point. Yours is soooo clear and understandable very well thank you a lot sir.
I really like this approach. Going from a basic T line and slowly perfecting the shape helps understand shirt construction and body proportions. Amazing video!

Your link to the book didn't work from Australia. Sorry about that. I managed to find a copy here though, and dived in after watching your video the first time. It's pretty complicated for a right brainier like me, but today I started again with your video by my side and, golly gosh, I got it! Thanks again. ❤
Sir, you are a gift from the universe. Thank you for your teaching such needed skills so clearly and patiently. This is by far the best channel on this topic. I'm now hooked.
I've been struggling to make button up shirts for myself, I'm a pretty busty woman and other sewing videos for female buttons ups sorta always confused me when it came to resizing. A video dedicated to turning my measurements into a shirt that'll fit has just made everything so understandable. I have books on resizing, and I know how to make a lot of other things to fit me but for some reason applying what I know to button up shirts always made me get lost. I did some extra measurements to account for my chest (an over and under bust measurement) but overall I feel very confident about the mock-ups I'll be making soon. Seriously, thank you. I love the look of a nice button up shirt.
I am happy to hear that you were able to get something from my video. Thank you for watching and happy sewing. Hopefully, your future draft turns out and you're able to make the button-up you desire! Good luck.
Loved this video and followed it step by step. When will I learn how to add button placards and a collar? If you're still making that video can I be greedy and request going over how to add notches/dots to match pieces and factor in easement(?). Very big fan. Thanks for helping on my sewing journey!
Thank you for the very kind words. I am busy in the editing stage right now. I am hoping to have the full video out in the next couple of weeks. I will consider your requests for a future video though. Thanks again and happy sewing.
I just discovered your channel and wow, your video's are amazing! Super informative and very professional. I just took a look at your website out of curiosity and now I understand how your video's are so professional: you really do have a background in design! I really want to learn how to sew my own clothes. I am a very tall girl (mostly long legs and a short torso with long arms) and I find it really difficult to find clothes that fit me well. There are few stores that cater to tall women and the ones that do are fast fashion brands that sell bad quality clothes that are absolutely not sustainable and probably also not very ethically made. I really appreciate your video's, it gives me hope that I will be able to make my own clothes in the future!
I am glad to hear that my video was of use to you. Thanks for watching and thanks for taking the time to get to know me online. I hope you end up making everything you desire and have the wardrobe you desire. Happy Sewing.
Best explanation I've seen of pattern drafting so far. Thanks. This is now bookmarked for future reference. Using a commercial pattern at the moment - still very much a learner on sewing techniques, and want to get better at them before tackling the next level. It's fun and highly satisfying making stuff though, isn't it.
Amen! It really is a gratifying feeling to make one's own clothes. It only continued to get better when I started drafting my own patterns from scratch. I'm happy for you and your journey and hopefully, you make everything your heart desires. Thanks for watching!
@@CorneliusQuiring No, thanks for sharing your knowledge! I only started sewing this year, and it's been mainly bags/pouches for all that 'stuff' that needs a home, one prototype (I call everything 'prototype' as it excuses all the mistakes) backpack, a couple of shoulder bags (I call them Definitely Not a Man Bag, which really trips off the tongue...) and loved it. Now on my second shirt, when I can be bothered to unpick the failed sections of flat felled seams. Have a pair of cargo trousers, or pants to all you strange people, lined up as a soon-to-try project. Can see clothing becoming a bigger part of my oeuvre (fancy word of the day) over the next few months. All the best to you, Pete.
Yes, I plan to do a full break down of the yoke in the back in the next video. Thanks for your interest and hopefully you get something out of the next video.
I really like how you explain everything to the lowest understanding but I have a question why do some people take half inch from sleeves(the front part) when drafting and is it necessary to do that
If you're doing a looser fit or a more casual shirt, no you do not need to adjust the curve of the sleeve. If you want something a bit more fitted for a dress shirt, you can add a little extra to the curve in the back and remove a bit out of the front to fit the shape of our arms moving forward.
The fact that this information (formatted in such a succinct and peaceful way) is free..?! Thank you!!

Extremely grateful for sharing this method of drafting, took me 45 mins to finish the entire thing from drafting to sample. So nicely explained! Thank you.
Oh wicked. That's quick indeed! Happy Sewing.
When the student is ready the teacher appears Fantastic!
ha! Thank you for watching and happy sewing!

I'm glad this was of use to you. Thanks for watching.
you are literally saving my life with your videos!! thank you so much, fashion school would suck ass without you!!
You got this!
Oh wonderful, I am glad to hear that my video was of use to you. Thanks for watching and make the shirts for him turn out great!
Pure gold! Not only the how but the why…thank you thank you…custom fitting is so important for those of us out here with parts uneven!
I am glad to hear that my video was of use to you. Thanks for watching.
Brilliant explanation of the sleeve pattern shape's origin--from the column sliced at an angle, then vertically. So clear!
Oh, wonderful, I'm glad to hear that it made sense to you. Thanks for watching and happy sewing.
I used to brute-force my way around sewing when I was in high school and I havent picked it up in around 12 years. My GOD how I wish this channel was around when I was younger, I might have kept with it.
I’m excited to start experimenting with it.
At least you're finding your way back to it. Hopefully you make plenty more this time around :)
Never have I seen a tutorial/lesson explained so well. Thank you. I just got into Cosplay and this knowledge is going to help immensely. Subscribed, liked, and so forth! Thank you.
I'm glad to hear it. May your future projects only get better! :)
Very informative. I liked the fact that you explained so well the garment's malfunctions. That's the part that most videos like this are missing
oh wonderful, I am glad to hear that my video was of use to you. Thanks for watching.
I appreciate your thoughts and you bring up some good points.
this video is beyond awesome kasi chillax lang yung nagtuturo pero may vibe na kahit hindi mo iskip yung playback, arrive pa rin sa finishline.
🤠🙏🏻
Thank you! I am glad to hear that my video is understandable for you. Good luck with your sewing projects and all the best.
this is a sensational revelation for me! I have seen dozens of measurement methods in books and dozens more in videos. Many of them were logically inconsistent, impracticable in practice, or simply anatomically incorrect. Thank you for showing us how it really works.
oh wonderful, I am glad to hear that my video was of use to you. Thanks for watching.
This is brilliant, you've answered all my questions! I'm just preparing to start sewing again after a 6 month break, so I've come back for more of your excellent tutorials. Thank you!
Oh nice, I'm glad that my content was of use to you. Also, I am happy for you that you're back at your machine. Thanks for watching my video.

I'm glad to hear it!
Cornelius!!!!! I so freaking love you!! I chance upon your channel n I LOVE it! I am a visual person n your explaination of step by step n also as to why, I can SO understand how to draft a bodice now. Most online tutorial n classes I go to, always assume I know the reason why of certain steps, n no explanation was given, n if I asked, they gave so technical whys, which made me even more confused. But you! You so patiently n calmly explained every steps! I so so love your tutorial! Thank you! Thank you! 💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖 You have me at first sight n follower now💖💖💖💖

You have been hard to find.
I have been looking for a long time for a channel that teachers sewing for men’s clothing.
New subscriber.
I am happy to hear you found me eventually. Thanks for watching. 🙏🏻
Ha! Yes, a tailor's sheers are more precious then gold :) Thank you for sharing a personal moment with us in the comments here.
Thank you Cornelius for this free and amazing information!! You're one of few RUclipsrs that is teaching how to draft patterns for mens wear. Subscribed 👍
I'm glad to hear it.
This is probably the most informative and well done video on shirt making I have seen. I'm going to go watch all your other videos now!
I'm chuffed to hear it. Thanks for watching.
Superb tutorial, answering every question step by step which is popping up in my mind while watching video.
Thankyou so much.
A perfect teaching guide.
oh wonderful, I'm happy to hear it and thanks for watching.
Great video, thank you Cornelius! You really take the time to explain things clearly and the pace is perfect. You truly are a fantastic teacher, and the fact that you share it with the world says a lot about your generosity. Do you make custom shirts by any chance?
Thank you for the kind words and thanks for watching. For now, I am focusing my effort on creating this content only.
I simply can’t rave enough about your fabulous videos! Precise, To the point, and technically sound! Thank you, Thank You, Thank You!

Oh wow, I‘m just working on your how to draft men‘s pants and thought how awesome it were if you did more tutorials like this. :-)
Your style of explaining is so easy to follow and I‘m very grateful that you provided both inch & cm. Looking forward to do this one as well! Thx!
Oh, nice. Well, I am happy to hear that you are using the pants video and hopefully this one delivers for you as well. Keep me posted on how both projects turn out, it's always nice to hear from people who use the content.
This is Gold Standard for tutorials! The best….
As many other people have already said, thank you so much for making this video (and all your videos). You deliver information perfectly, and your production quality is out standing (you're also pretty nice to look at =w=). Please keep it up
I am glad to hear that my video was of use to you. Thanks for watching.
Thank you for sharing a bit about yourself. May you master the skill as you desire.
Thank You for showing us for free ❤
This is the perfect companion to the sewing books I have that talk about collars, pockets, buttons, and zippers, but don't actually talk about the rest of the garment. I'm used to just tracing the shirt that fits the most and then fixing where it doesn't really work (I have some teen clothes that fit okay, but the arms are too short). This should help me fix a few of those issues I couldn't quite understand what to do with.
I am glad to hear that my video was of use to you. I appreciate your resourcefulness. Thanks for watching and good luck with your future projects.
first of all, i like the country guitar sound on the background. You are so great a teacher. I am so new to sewing, in fact i don't know where to begin. I am so glad to begin with you after searching for a while. Thanks Man!

Wow You’re the Best ! I’ve been wanting to sew my own clothes and searching for long time; glad I’ve found you! The Best ever! Thank you!
Good on you for getting started.
Thanks man! Working on some truly tough but good looking clothes to match my lifestyle choices and these videos have been great!
Oh nice, well know that the challenge will be worth it. I too struggle with my own makes. Thanks for sharing a bit about yourself and thanks for watching.
It's really enjoyable to listen to what you tell about men's clothing, if you tell about the collar types on the shirt it's perfect.

One advice on taking measures, taking it several times is a great tip, but I'd also compare your measurements with a size chart from whatever book you follow. That allows you to make sure you are didn't measure incorrectly and have a value off by too much.
This is a good point. Thanks for adding it in the comments. The book does come with a chart so that could be a good place to compare to.
Oh my gosh, I have had such a hard time drafting patterns for my dude and I could not find anyone who explained things in a clear way. I have ended up crying at some points trying to get all of my measurements and points and proportions to make sense. Then I found this guy and it all makes sense now. Thank you so much!

What a great video, so clear, calm conscience and filled with information on good drafting. Thank you for taking the time to share
And thank you for watching! I'm happy to hear it.
These are great tips and focuses on details! Thank you for sharing your insights.
They're all very different shapes and sizes and I've struggled to make them a better fit (I last sewed in Domestic Studies at school, some 40 years ago!!) This video will hopefully give the shirts a much better outcome (although they're all grateful that I take the time to make a handcrafted gift, and indeed wear them all year round :) )
Thank you!

@Cornelius Quiring The pleasure and educational value is all mine, master taylor!
It sounds like you've got plenty of practice already then. Plenty of projects. Also, I made start using oeuvre as well. That a fund word :)

@@CorneliusQuiring Don't get me wrong I'm inspired watching you make your capsule wardrobe, but to learn how to draft patterns myself is awesome.
I am happy to hear you appreciate the various different types of videos. Thanks for watching and always commenting.
