  • Review technical details of the Taran Tactical Innovations JW4 Pit Viper - mostly based around a few other reviews and some of the details that might be driving these differences in opinion. Also seen in this video is a Staccato XC, STI DVC and Atlas Nemesis, along with an OG SVI Infinity and Springfield Prodigy Grip Modules. All in the name of doing a technical comparison.
    Forgotten items:
    - Talk about the nice brushed & matte finish highlights on the slide
    - Tomfoolery guntuber intro
    - Any type of decent video production or editing

so I called their shop after seeing your video and expressed my concerns with these flaws because I have a pit viper on order. The guy I spoke with was really nice and admitted there were a few guns that had gone out that had this issue. He told me that there is a lifetime warranty and any of these guns can be turned in for refinement. He also assured me that all the pit vipers going forward will have these issues resolved. Hopefully I will be getting mine in the next month or so when I do, I will be sure to update if this is true.

Great Vid, honestly i dont reference much to what 1911 syndicate are saying as accurate most of the time, more as entertainment, but with that said, i do agree with him that for that price, those little issues arent acceptable IMO. I personally own a nighthawk AAC 1911, which when brand new i think it was about USD 5000, still its perfectly made, none such issue.
All taran stuff are way too overpriced IMO, awesome gun but its 100% not worth 7000usd.

This is a awesome video and break down. That freaking sucks though. You obviously proved they changed or alter their production which is kind of a let down. Especially when it comes too 2011 & 1911 fitment and blending is everything. Changing the production and not doing that I can completely see why someone paying $7000 would be pissed. You gained a subscriber brother.

That’s some janky shit for the cost. They need to step up their game with the grip edges.

Excellent video and commentary! I have both the Pit and Sand and shoot the Sand which is the flattest shooting pistol I have have. Zero problems and Zero malfunctions with it. Pit is a movie gun that I have displayed in my office.

Could just look at the mag release button there different designs on lockup. There’s 2 companies building the guns and the slides are actually different pit viper to sandviper.
Also not being a jerk but send that back for the amount of lil details that aren’t complete especially that inside of the grip sanding

I have the early SandViper it look very well made and everything appear to be like website pictures.
Then I got pit viper later last month….. gosh…
It is just like the one in your video. I made a phone call to TTi and they said… this is Gen2.. I was disappointed a bit…

I have an XC. Sand viper and a pit as well as trs comp and Erebus…. I know the pit is a good gun but I also know the unit price and it’s nothing close to 7k. Good gun depending on when it was made there are issues with build quality. Loved the video

Thanks M Smither's I, like you have the Gen2 grip with all the same issues you note. Would have been nice for Taran to let the consumer know that changes were made. I prefer the Gen1 grip like on my XC or combat master. My Sand Viper also has the Gen1 grip module - but there are some rough edges where the grip safety is. Maybe i'll just change out for a Gen1 on the Pit Viper.

im upset i have a pitviper on order and still have 10+ months left. After 2 year wait for ny pistol license. I ordered it as a celebration expecting the best of the best from all the reviews of the gen 1 that i thought im getting. I dont buy to many things NEW as you can tell by my youtube channel. the 7K was excessive but figured that taran butler knows what the best since the sand viper won some type of competition even before the JW4 movie came out. I know there had to be a Hollywood premium on it but expected perfection. While in waiting for the real pitviper to get her I bought a air soft pitviper and sandviper that I play with while im doing office work or watching TV, but it seems that when I get the real one in, the air soft ones will have the gen 1 grip and a better fit and finish. Have you ever herd the saying of the saying "dont meet your heroes!" I feel like I should cancel my order so I dont get disappointed or hart broken. My intention was to actually use this pitviper in local shooting events for fun and not expect really to win but to have equipment that i will never surpass and only have to focus on my abilities and techniques. I currently bought the sig 320 DH3 as a first pistal and love it and will try an event in the next coming weeks. BUT if i cancel the pitviper order what is the correct 2011 to get then that will fill that void?

Hey, thanks for sharing your thoughts. What's you opinion on an Atlas Ares vs this from TTI? I can carry the Ares in commander and a reddot is optional. They're basically close the the same cost ported but I have never held or shot an Atlas Gunworks.

Clearly there's the Atlas mat. I have an Athena. I was interested in the TTI mostly because of John Wick, but I couldn't find one. Of the few 2011's I shot, the Athena fired best for me. How would you say the TTI compares and is it worth the premium?

I emailed TTI this regarding the grip module:
Hello, my pit viper sn# ----- has a “2nd gen” grip that doesn’t have an extended checkered mag release button and the grip safety when depressed doesn’t fit flush with the grip, the edges of the grip are sharp and protrude out. How can i order a 1st gen grip with the extended checkered mag button. Thanks.
    Their response:
    Good Morning,
Thank you for your inquiry. Unfortunately, that 1st gen grip module was discontinued in early production.

Nice 2011 collection and obviously you've been around good fit n finish since we see the STI DVC but we all know the slide milling on the Pit Viper was done by a Cnc machine that its done by a program so it shouldn't be more expensive than lets say the XC. What is more expensive is the barrel/comp combo on the XC thats made out of one block of steel and not a two piece threaded barrel/screwed on comp. Pit Viper no Optic option is another additional charge just lke in your Nemesis and a couple hundred dollars. No way the Pit Viper is worth the 7k price tag, its not up there with an Erebus or an Infinity. I'll give you the nose cut, its nice and took some time to develop and execute.
