For someone with no formal education, Ted Nugent is very well read, informed, and articulate. He isn't the most humble person in the world, but why should he be?
He isn't obligated to be humble but if he likes having people listen to whatever message he's trying to convey (which he clearly does) he would be better served coming across as a humble person. It helps open people's minds to new information if they don't get the impression the person speaking isn't a know it all. I do like his telling of this story.
That's real stuff and it's not bragging too much when you have trained yourself and then share it with young people who would otherwise be stuck in the city and remain ignorant of how things actually work.
I'll never forget the first time I ever squirrel hunted with my old man, he handed me five shotgun shells and told me either bring squirrels back or the shells no in between. He made me hunt with a single barrel for years, and I became one hell of a shot for it. The old timers knew what they were doing.
Ted wasn't the reason I got into bow hunting 35 years ago but he was a part of my early bow shoot days. I grew up close to Ted in Michigan and my uncle is good friends that grew up with Ted and I spent many days shooting bows and hanging out with Ted when I was young.
My wife's family is from Grayling. Several people from her family worked for him making bows. I lived in Grayling for a while, Fred Bear is still an icon there. Hunting and trout fishing is what Grayling is all about.
Anyone who is as passionate about music or hunting as Ted Nugent is. Knows who they are and what they stand for. Direction in life is something so few people have wheather it be now or any other time in history. Know what it is you want and learn how to get there. Simple dreams lead to massive goals. Never be about winning or losing. Just give a solid effort to get there. Even if you fall short you will know how strong in spirit you are to make real an effort to overcome your obstacles. Working hard, thinking hard and never giving in to giving up on your life.
Basically. Ted is the worst example of hunting culture. He's a dick and doesn't care about the animals. He just cares about killing and being a douche. I hunt for food. I don't refer to the mystical flight of the arrow. I refer to the knowledge I have and need to keep populations in check while feeding my family.

One of the most significant connection to nature was when I went hunting for magic mushrooms. I found them, dried them, ate them and had a very insightful time but the connection was the most memorable. I think every school should have a garden where children can cultivate and then be allowed to harvest and take home what they have grown. I can imagine hunting would be such a incredible experience. I eat red meat everyday if possible. I've tried vegetarianism for a year and developed a allergy to lentils because I ate so much dhal. Eating meat is a fact of life for so many people and I think hunting would actually breath a whole unexpected respect for animals that folk would be willing to pay a little more for meat bred responsibly but it is a significant luxury here in the UK.
