Marcia Clark completely blew it by treating kato as a hostile witness. She already had what she needed from him as a witness! All she had to do was reiterate that OJ wanted to talk at length about Nicole's dress. That he went on and on about it. She didn't have to have him categorize OJ's demeanor or mood during that for people to understand why OJ would obsess over that.
That's only one way she blew it. She also refused to let a bunch of evidence come in through the cops because she knew the jury would be hostile towards cops. It's always way better to let all evidence in.

I agree. I do afford her grace being in the position she was going from the court room to home as a single mother, on the phone with Garcetti the next morning, just all the minutiae of stress that I think made her often blind to the forest from all the trees. But when justice is on the line? These mistakes have consequences and I think she made plenty just like this very one you mentioned. She should have just simply said "I have no more questions" and not impugned her own witness. All over a mood and demeanor no less...

Unfortunately I don’t think any of it would matter even if changed. The whole case and jury decision was based on race. Didn’t matter even if they had video evidence back at that time, they would argue it was doctored. It was made a black vs white thing and the jury was mostly black.

@@danielmccoy-md3zd I completely agree that it was decided based purely on race and that jury should be ashamed of themselves.

@@Justicia007the jury is not ashamed of themselves. They relish in it to this day. They’ve been repeatedly polled, given new evidence, only one ever said they’d change verdict. A woman even came out and said 90% of the acquittal vote was racially based. And if a prominent black man were to be accused of the same crimes today, I’d expect the same results.

@@danielmccoy-md3zd So tedious to oversimply and pull the race card. As if that overrides the inept prosecution, crooked cop who bragged about planting evidence on Black men, contaminated DNA evidence. Is it only about race when Black people are involved?

It wasn't just three loud bumps kato heard, The walls of his guest house moved and his painting was knocked sideways. It's pretty disgusting how everybody's trying to smear this guy when he was just living his life. He didn't murder these two people. You have no information that he was a drug dealer or anything else. He was a witness caught up in this.

    • @Justicia007

He also ran 10 miles a day or 15, and didn't eat meat. He was kind of a health nut so I doubt very much that he was into drugs

I take it a step further and believe Kato saw OJ when he went back there. How could he not?? OJ was in shock and desperate and had Kato cover for him…and that’s why Kato buzzed Park in eventually. Kato needed a story as to why he was already out there, so he came up with this “earthquake” stuff which is comically bad. He clearly knew it wasn’t an earthquake if he went out back to investigate a singular area that rattled. Kato lies in that he only took a step or two and got scared. Also strange, why go that far to investigate then suddenly “get scared” at the point he would have seen OJ. OJ was also seen by Park coming through the front where Kato would have been. Kato also switched his story and became a hostile witness. How is this not obvious to everyone?

Kato should've just told the whole truth about OJ from the beginning, instead of dancing around the subject matter and giving shady answers. He claimed he loved Nicole like a sister and wanted justice for her and Ron, but his testimony at the trial didn't help anybody except OJ. Now, nobody believes him.
    Still. And they never will.

@@user-sx3cl8se9j The truth….that OJ knocked on his wall to get him to come out and stall the limo driver while he went in and got ready. Kato knew OJ was not inside “oversleeping”, and lied on the stand to protect the alibi. If you go back and listen to Alan Park’s testimony, he actually said that he saw “a 6ft tall black man” walking through the yard towards the house, AND he saw Kato outside at the same time. It’s kinda like, don’t ask, don’t tell, and we’re good.

If OJ wanted drugs he didn't need someone living in his compound. He could've had any number of assistants bring him whatever he needed. Kalin never used drugs. He was a strange free spirit, Hollywood hanger on, that floated around looking for places to live while auditioning for roles. He was a health-nut and still looks good today at 65. I don't think he was anything more less than he appeared to be at the trial. Holding on and spreading lies and rumors about someone 30 years later isn't good for the soul.
