Thanks for stopping by, Matt! Your artwork MAKES this set what it is. I would imagine every artist would dream of having their work showcased through such a prestigious display!
3 years later 2024. I have the Showa and Heisei Gamera box sets. Got them for $50 each. They are gorgeous!! Great quality, Arrow Video never disappoints. I am a huge Godzilla fan (33 movies owned) and King Kong 1933, love it. (5 King Kong movies owned). I had never seen Gamera, after watching the first 2 (Showa era). I’am already hooked! Great stuff! And now I own them all! 😸
I had the same reaction to the weight of the box when I got my copy yesterday. This set is easily the nicest blu-ray set that I own to date. It blows away the Criterion Collection Godzilla box set in my opinion. Arrow Video knocked this one out of the park and then some!
That Gamera box set is too legit to quit!!!! I lived in Japan for 12 years off and on and I NEVER saw anything this epic over there. I need a Mothra box set in my life!!
*knock knock* "Who is it? Come in!" had me laughing XD Thanks dude, I needed that. Listen, I have NO idea what Gamera is but this video was an absolute joy to watch. It was like Christmas, man! Your eyes just lit up when you unboxed it.
Ha! I guess I should have started with what Gamera actually is! In a previous unboxing video (the Criterion Bruce Lee set) my analytics showed me that I was losing people after seriously about one minute in, so I tried to cut straight to the goods here. Gamera is basically a turtle version of Godzilla. Japanese giant monster, fights other giant Japanese monsters (people in rubber suits). They're a lot of fun, and as the back of the box says, "Gamera, Friend of All Children!" Thanks for the laugh!
Mine is supposed to be delivered with my copies of Pitch Black and the Flash Gordon LE tomorrow. I still regret not picking up the Herschell Gordon Lewis box set and wish I could track one down for a decent price to go with my Severin Al Adamson set. I didn’t want to risk missing out on this one too.
Man I am just discovering Arrow Films and this box set....the secondary market price for this makes me cry. Congrats to anyone who got the initial release at a halfway decent price!
I know in the kaiju fanbase the hot button debate is "Which is better, this or the CC godzilla set". But to me that's a boring debate (Arrow and Criterion have 2 different mindsets for what they do, Arrow would lean more towards 'fan' mentality, and CC had to deal with Toho being Toho) For me the main topic is how did the price for this drop to 125 on amazon when godzilla only really dropped by like 10 dollars during its preorder window. I saved 50 bucks on this thing just because I preordered in february. Considering all it comes with I don't know how they justified that price drop.
Wow that is one beutiful set, I love whats happening now with physical media, it reminds me of the old laser disc days with very elaborate releases. I know nothing about camera and have not seen any of the movies, but I bought it after watching this video.
I received mine about 3 weeks ago (a plus from ordering from Diabolik). I've watched the first 3 so far and they look great. The extras are awesome too, especially the comic book. The package is heavier and bigger than I thought it would be. It will sit next to my Arrow Herschel Gordon Lewis set perfectly.
This is a beautiful set. I was on the fence about ordering it, but I’m so glad I did. And it was so heavy the person who delivered it just put it on the edge of my porch. I guess he couldn’t make it to the door like all my other deliveries.
Shame it wasn't sent with more protection rather than being loose in the box as I see your outer box suffered damage in the bottom corner I got the UK one and it was packed well by Amazon
Had to order from Arrow U.K. I cant believe how fast this sold! Didn’t anticipate having to spend this money atm but I am glad I snagged one before they start getting flipped for big bucks
Just got mine in today. I had Pre ordered it on Amazon but it got delayed....honestly thought they were going to cancel my order since it’s been so long. Super stoked!
Just pulled the trigger on one on Amazon through a 3rd party so hoping to get it the at the end of next week. Paid more but with you showing it off it was still well worth the little bit of extra cost. When Barnes & Noble had their Criterion sale I for sure picked up the Godzilla the Showa Era collection in that very nice book package. So the Gamera books will look so awesome alongside the Godzilla. I know they have a nice steelbook of Mothra but I wouldn't mind seeing Mothra get this treatment too.
I'm so pissed I missed out on this. I just didn't bite when I should have and didn't pay attention to the limited run. I had to jump on the individual standard sets they just released to make up for it. They're good little sets...but this thing is...man I'm jealous.
That's insane! So much awesome stuff in one set! I'm still in the process of collecting older TV shows and movies. Hoping the first series of GI: Joe gets a re-release in regular sized case packaging. If you're interested, season 3 of Garfield and Friends is being released on October 27th.
When I first saw this video 10 months ago, I could not order it online so when our first lockdown ended I went to every location of my favorite movie store in Ontario Canada and missed the last copy by 1 minute. I put my name down in case it came back. Well Saturday day I got a call that somehow during yet another lockdown they got 1 copy show up over an hour away from my house. Now that I got the last one in the province, possibly anywhere, I had to unbox it with past Heath
Have it pre-ordered on Amazon. Looking forward to it. Through years of GFest attending I’m friendly with several of the commentators involved and the awesome artist (Matt Frank).
Couldn't buy it, I was busy with other stuff. really love owning this set. BUT oh well, you said a second edition normal set coming out, I'll wait. that boxset is just SO AWESOME! dude. Arrow video did AMAZING work with that Gamera boxset. I still own the shout factory dvds I bought many years ago. awesome unboxing
I have always loved Gamera. I know the Godzilla franchise generally offers better movies but I just always found so much joy in that giant turtle. I couldn’t do this set because I did a killer Dawn of the Dead 4k import set. I have review screeners for the set though and can’t wait to dive into the movies.
Gamera movies feel...maybe "sweeter" is the word? More gentle? More wholesome than Godzilla? I'm curious where you got review screeners! We should continue this conversation via direct message or email.
@@CerealAtMidnight definitely sweeter is a good description. Part of it might be that I had a box turtle for years as a pet too lol. Sure, shoot me a dm.

It's an amazing set. Amazing! And worth the coin. But I have all the movies. So, as much as I love Gamera, even if I can find this, not sure I'd pick up. Of course, such decisions are subject to impulse purchase changes of mind in the middle of the night. 😎
I completely understand. I had all but the Heisei movies already, but the amount of love and attention they put into this thing made it a must-have for me. I didn't get too deep into the specs in the video, but the Heisei movies have been given new 4K restorations and a bunch of new special features. The older films also have quite a collection of commentaries, documentaries, and alternate versions/language choices too. When they say "the complete collection," they weren't playing around! I'm glad I took the plunge.
This box set is great. Known about Gamera for a while but never saw them till recently and I enjoyed them. A shame I didn't watch it years ago so I could find out about this box set. Prices online for this are pricey. Still, the two era box sets are available and take up less space.
I couldn't afford one of these right now, although they're very reasonably priced considering everything you get in them. My hope is in the near future Arrow releases a set of just the 12 movies without all the cool extra gubbins for around half the price or so.
My Amazon did not come. Arrow seriously underestimated the demand for this, and that’s a shame. I will not pay a scalper for this, as they are already in the high 3’s to over $400.00. Oh well, life goes on.
Wow! I preordered (hasn't yet arrived), but I thought it was a standard shelf-sized package. That's massive! I better clear out the closet to make room.

I bought the 4k collector's edition of Flash Gordon from Arrow & the Criterion edition of Bruce Lee's greatest hits & have the 4k Arrow release of Pitch Black on order - so I had to pass on this Gamera set. Hopefully Arrow will do just a regular set down the road & then I'll pick it up. The Mill Creek box sets of Gamera on blu-ray that I own will hold me over till then. Plus, I'm more of a Godzilla fan then Gamera. My criterion collection of the Showa era of the big G gets a lot of play. More so then my Gamera sets.

I was going to hold off for awhile but all your talk about selling out gave me some serious FOMO so I pulled the trigger today. Haha classic case of Heath costing me money!
D'oh! Not trying to cost anybody any money, but I definitely don't think this set is going to be around in a month. Maybe not even in a couple of weeks. I'm hearing reports of PRE-ORDERS being cancelled with no explanation.
Not by name, no, because I didn’t know he was the artist when I opened it. But he stopped by in these very comments and I let him know how special his art makes the set.
Rather have physical media than digital. I have seen so many movies and they sound and look so much better on a physical disc than watching it digitally. Watching movies the sound is low and quality is not as good as watching it on the disc.
Why'd the 'comic art' change the color of Gamera to green? Horrible! Deal breaker. And this 1990s-comic-style box art bears no relation to these live action movies. This isn't a collection of cartoons, as the box art seems to suggest. (When will this era of 'newly commisioned cover art' for Blu-ray/Dvd end? Give us the photo art that the Studios originally made). Too big for any shelf, it would have to be kept in storage (which would help hide that art).
another brilliant arrow release one my favourite company’s to collect for now got to get around the wife lol see if she will let me have it £109 on amazon another great video keep up the great work 🙏

It's been divided into two smaller sets now, but the discs are the same:
Gamera: The Showa Era amzn.to/3pnF4IQ
Gamera: The Heisei Era amzn.to/3pkez6Y
@@CerealAtMidnight yes but I really want it for the comic. You can easily find the dark horse but I can't find gamera lost hope anywhere
@@patrickmcguire451 just read it for free online, Matt frank released it for free long ago
I have an unopened one if still interested
Looks like a dc absolute
