I’m going to be baptized in two days. In my country, Japan, people don’t know the existence of Orthodoxy. So, few people go to church. Nikolasまっち welcome to the faith nikolas. As a Greek Orthodox I’ll tell you. The hymns of our faith have been sang in Ancient Greek since the beginning of Christianity...I hope one day you’ll make it to Greece and go for a Divine Liturgy there!
I'm a Roman Catholic, and I attended an Antiochian liturgy for the first time last week. I had become convinced, through dozens of hours of debates, talks, and a couple books I read, that the Orthodox church is the true church. Actually attending the liturgy was amazing. It was beautiful and everyone there was so friendly. My wife's coworker is Greek Orthodox and she came with us to walk us through what to do. She was upset because she said she liked that Church better than hers. She said you can really feel the love there. I can't wait to go back next Sunday.

I'm sorry, but you are wrong. The first seven ecumenical council and the Church Fathers clearly teach the Papacy, filioque, divine simplicity and purgatory, that is the doctrines that the so called "orthodox" church rejects. Catholicism is true, and orthodoxy is false. One must be a Roman Catholic to be saved.
I converted about 10 years ago. I'll never forget the first time I stepped into the church. It blew my Protestant mind. Glory to the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit! Subdeacon Christopher😇

One of the best liturgies i have ever attended was at a Serbian, even if I speak no Serbian, it is all the "same language", and they all were so welcoming.
When you spoke of icons and the church being a heavenly realm. I felt that during tonight's service. The roof opened up for me and it was beautiful. I only started coming to church last Wednesday and all week this week I've come to every night service for holy week. I have been moved to join orthodoxy and to work towards catechism. Pray for me brothers and sisters I want to humble myself to the Lord and offer myself to my church. I have never been baptized never felt the urge to join a church but Jesus has saved me from myself a few years ago and I believe coming to the Orthodox church this week has changed me and I want to start my journey till the end of my days showing my love and thanks to God.
I’m a baptized Protestant but have attended an Orthodox Church the last two months. First Divine Liturgy I went to definitely felt “foreign” to me and was unsure if I would come back. When I saw that next Sunday’s Gospel reading would be the Women at the Well, one of my favorite passages in the whole Bible, I decided I’d try again. Now Im reading Father Coniaris’s book, Introducing the Orthodox Church: It’s Faith and Life, and I am seriously considering converting.
I've been an Orthodox Christian believer for 6 years (former protestant evangelical). I hope you find a parish which is not "foreign" (ethnic). You will get used to the foreign sounds of the songs and chanting. Persevere and it will be worth it!
Jerry Benjamin Well, that, or in my case, I found an “ethnic” parish of my own: Western Rite Orthodoxy. As the Anglo sub Rite of Saint Tikhon, and à British priest, it is very English, too.
Such a shallow church so focused on externals. I was an atheist I met the risen Lord was baptized in a Baptist church realized certain aspects of that tradition were wrong, such as denying the real presence of Christ in holy communion. But I did not over react by doing what some of the people I met who imagined this group of churches in the east had no shortcomings in their tradition. We all fall short and what we need in the broken body of Christ is humility and the capital O Orthodox churches need it too. The security of God is hidden in the insecurity of the cross, not pretty pictures or music with or without instruments and whatever else people get wrapped up in.
I attended my first Divine Liturgy yesterday and it was very much like coming home and I certainly felt like I was looking into heaven. What the abbot said about the old lady in the wheelchair reminds me of a dear old man who was there with a walker - when it was appropriate he sat but otherwise he got on his feet for our Lord and it inspired me not to let my aching feet and calves distract me.
Growing up Protestant, I have always admired both the Orthodox and Catholic Masses. I have always felt that Protestantism is both empty and in most cases simply wrong, and have felt strongly about converting for many years. I also have been recently acquainted with the idea of how in Orthodoxy you are encouraged to experience the faith with not only your mind, but all of your senses. I am a Protestant, but there are many issues in the Church (mostly America). We have little respect for God’s Holy Church Service, No respect for God’s commandments, No respect for good works that Christians should do. But they also get some things right, like Faith alone, Prodistantism in other countries are much more correct, and right.
I was a Protestant for several years as well before coming home to the Catholic Church. Praise God you are discovering the heritage of Christianity. I’d urge you also to prayerfully look into the Catholic Church and especially the necessity of the Visible Church to have a visible Head. Pax Christi
I was baptised Roman Catholic about a year ago after spending a couple of years as a catechumen. I am undergoing an internal struggle within myself between Roman Catholicism and Eastern Orthodoxy. I pray that Christ leads me, chief of sinners, to the right path
As a former Roman Catholic, it was a blessing to come from that background because I didn't have the hang ups that many converts have (like about saint veneration, icon veneration, Theotokos, etc...). For that I am thankful. Once I made my decision, I was able to dive in head first with no second-guessing or hesitation. It took a while to make that decision though, what a spiritual battle that was.
This was so good for me. As a fairly recent convert to orthodoxy in my 70's..I have always been afraid to venerate or bow down to someone that was not Jesus Christ. I've wanted to, but I haven't had the go-ahead in my spirit. Now I'm pretty free to venerate and thank the Saints and the holy virgin..Really thank you!!!
What really made me understand veneration of icons was when someone explained to me that it is really no different than bowing to or kissing a living person that you love or respect, or kissing a picture of a deceased loved one.
Pharyn Gealized Our saints are our brothers and sisters in Christ. We venerate them out of love and respect. We ask them to pray for us, and they do, and God likes to see our mutual love. Don't we ask our friends to pray for us? It is the same thing. AND we know that it's more likely that God will answer prayers of saints. The Bible makes it clear that those who are just or righteous are heard by God, so the prayers of the saints have a power and efficacy which may not always be the case with those of us who are still steeped in imperfection.
Thank you for the advice! I am 19 and come from a non religious family, and just discovered Christianity this past year. This December I started attending an Orthodox Church, and the priest has graciously let me attend Catechism classes despite not yet being a catechumen. I know Orthodoxy is the truth, and i sincerely hope to be baptised one day!
Please pray for me brothers and sisters. I’ve been living and working in a country without much of any Christianity/no orthodox churches around. But I’ll be moving home this year with my wife and are excited to go to an Orthodox Church for the first time.
Having recently discovered Orthodoxy, it has renewed my Faith and love for Christ. This video was like an open invitation to me and I believe that if there were an Orthodox Church within a 100 miles of me, I'd already be a convert. For the time being, channels like yours are my spiritual lifeline to Orthodoxy. Thank you for this video interview. It was extremely helpful. May our Lord bless you and this channel for the many spiritual gifts offered here.
Hey Jeff...glory to God! May He continue to guide your steps. In case you're not aware of this site...perhaps it will be helpful? -> orthodoxyinamerica.org/ Good strength!
I am a convert to Orthodox Christianity, was Chrismated at a OCA church a couple of years ago, I appreciate the Abbot Tryphon's wise advice, I am glad he is looking out for us.
I belong to a very small church. Tomorrow I will remember your wise words...our church is "PACKED" God bless you Father Abbot Tryphon Mnohaja I Blahaja Lita Vladiko!
I’m currently discerning an irrepressible call to the true Faith of Christ and His Church and am leading my family in this path as well. We are preparing to make the switch from Anglican Church which has blessed us immensely and has become a kind of home and family for us. Nevertheless anytime we attend the Divine liturgy or vespers we are moved by the authenticity and beauty of the Church. Pray for us as we embark on this homecoming
Me and my household were chrismated 12/25/21. We went for eight months and sadly left because we thought we had second thoughts about Orthodoxy. On prodigal son Sunday, we came back this year. I'm glad to be back, but I wish that I had never left to begin with. I'm just glad to be home.
Hello I'm a Russian Orthodox Christian who is a convert to the faith, I too had a couple of times when my envelope became undone. God help me through those times and got me onto the road back to the Church. It truly is a struggle to be a Christian in this world. I trust God to guide me in my walk with HIM.
My respects to the Abbot.....How true he is!!!!! Being Greek orthodox..I know and understand where he is coming from...and as for the part where he said that the church is full of the icons of angels and saints..very true!!!! I have often been in my church when no one else was there and yet I never felt ALONE>>>>you never feel alone in the orthodox church, because it talks to your soul and that is JESUS talking!!!!!!
I can tell you that they have. I have gone to different churches here in America and nowhere I have felt the way I felt in a Orthodox church. The other churches seem sterile, cold, and unfinished. They give you the feeling that they are ready for renovations and you need to hurry out of it.
This video is very true and right. It is very easy to become a Pharisee as Orthodox Christians if we do not focus on truly changing ourselves to be more like Jesus. I am a convert of just over 35 years and it has been so healing but even now I need to struggle to stay on the path. Satan attacks all people continually and we are fighting against power that only God can defeat. This requires us to be engulfed by a life in Christ. The life of the saints is very instructive.
I've been studying about Orthodoxy for over year and attending an Orthodox church for six months. I've spoken to a priest and a member, am speaking to the priest for a second time about becoming a catechumen. Glad I did not rush my interest in converting from the Anglican Church and spent time learning about and observing the divine liturgy.
Please pray for me that by grace of God I can finally come into the orthodox church. It would indeed be a homecoming. Most holy Theotokos remember all those seeking to become orthodox 🕯️🙏🛐☦️
@@nathanjonesbaldhead8523 It started by my reading the Church Fathers. Then I began to attend an Orthodox church near me and asked questions. They have been wonderful

I was raised denominational protestant, then went to non-denominational protestant churches, became Roman Catholic then Byzantine Ruthenian Catholic and now Orthodox. Got Chrismated a few months ago... i am finally HOME!! Glory be to God!
St John Chrysostom advised that its best for converts to be tested in the faith before being placed in any position of leadership or responsibility. Wonderful video. If I needed spiritual advice I wouldnt hesitate to approach Abbot Tryphon. My father was Greek Orthodox and my mother Irish Catholic.
A great teaching ,I did exactly the same in monastic life ,and after a while I became UNGLUED .the ego is very clever at fooling our conscious childlike being ,it is the ego that brings us down with self righteous anger at what others do .it was never about other people but our ability to sit patiently with our own thoughts and not be pulled down to judgement.
I am Apostolic Pentecostal yet I am intrigued by what I see in the Orthodox Church and I can sense the effortless ascension into adoration in some of the worship experiences I have seen recorded. This was a fantastic presentation.
Thanks for your message, Preston! If you're interested in the Orthodox understanding of Pentecostalism, you might find our book of interest: protectingveil.com/in-peace-let-us-pray-to-the-lord-an-orthodox-interpretation-of-the-gifts-of-the-spirit/
I'm AG and attended a Vespers service this past Saturday. There was a reverence not present in my church and the atmosphere felt holy for lack of a better adjective to describe the service. I did feel lost with everything going on...kind of like attending a line dance and not knowing the moves. Probably a very poor analogy so forgive me if I offend anyone for that's not my I intent. I will be going to Vespers again this Saturday, btw.
Kevin Schwartzkopf my sister came up from Texas and came to liturgy with my family. Just to mess with her I would scratch my nose or bend over and stretch to watch her try to keep up. Don’t worry nobody cares glad to see you is all!
As one in serious contemplation of conversion to Orthodoxy this video is gold. Very insightful and helpful words. Thanks 🙏 for posting this and the other interview snippets.
@@dimazanya2568 It is prohibited to create images and worship them as God. However, it is not prohibited to create images generally. We Orthodoxs do not worship the Saints and Mary. The worship is only for God. The use of the holy icons is the same as for the photos today. The photos from your beloved persons. Your feelings you have for your son or for your daughter are coming from the iconized person and not from the paper or the plastic or wood by which the icon is made. Why do you need to have the photo from your beloved person? Because it helps you and once you take in your hands, you feel them closer to you. We do not venerate the Saints or Mary as God. As they continue their life closer to our God, we are expressing our gratitude because they are our mediators in front of God. Expressing our respect and love to them, does not prohibit us to love and worship God as God. So, the Orthodox Church does not worship Saints and Mary as God. This is the Orth. Church’s position for 2000 years now. Sorry for my bad English …. :-)
Abbot Tryphon thank you very much for your beautiful talk on Orthodoxy. I’ve recently returned to the Roman Catholic Church and I’ve learned a lot about the Orthodox Church and the similarities we have. May God bless us all!
I am Roman Catholic and would love to attend an Eastern Orthodox service unfortunately my town is very small and we don’t have an Orthodox church :( but I won’t give up hope I know I will experience it one day! Maybe I will even convert to Orthodoxy!
There are so many stories of humble and simple people that their eyes of soul were opened to see what is happening during the divine liturgy. They have seen the church absolutely packed with angels, so many that you can barely move. They also have seen Christ himself as the High Priest performing the liturgy and the prayers of people rising as light beams, joining together and move towards the sky.
This is exactly how I feel!! My first vespers I just had this wonderful sense that this was THE STUFF I'd been looking for my whole life and I could lay my burdens down and just immerse myself in whatever this is for the rest of my life. I would go to church every day if I could! I've never felt that way about a church before. Orthodoxy forever! ☦️
I’m becoming a catechumen. When orthodoxy found me I instantly knew I was Home. I just visited a very beautiful monastery, I was lead by God to this Orthodox Church and I immediately invited to a Monastery and Helped them build. It was super over-whelming. I met a Man named Fr. Barsinufius. He made my prayer rope, his eyes reminded me of my grandfathers. He spent a good bit of time with me going through Holy Relics. It’s been a life changing moment. I’ll never forget the feeling I got when I first met him. First time I ever felt the real Holy Spirit. I’m weeping just thinking of it. Christ Is Risen ☦️
I'm not orthodox but I was deeply touched by what he said about the liturgy is entering a realm were the church in heaven combine with our worship as a body of believers on earth. That is profound. We are entering a foretaste of heaven in our corporate worship. What riches the orthodox have to us who love the Lord Jesus and want to serve Him in truth. Glad to hear this interview with Bishop Tryphon.
I had an old woman come up to me one of my first times in the church and she was so special it almlost brought me to tears. From the instant she said hello i just knew that woman wanted only but the best for me, she wanted me to at home there. It meant the world to me
I always like hearing Abbot Tryphon ever since I heard him about 30 years ago at Most Holy Trinity Orthodox Cathedral in San Francisco. I remember him talking about riding a bicycle and the wind separating his beard. Thank you for this video.
This is at least the second time listening to this. It gets better every time. What a wonderful and insightful explanation of the Liturgy. There is far more heavenly action going on than we may have realized. I wish I was near to attend regularly.
I loved the commentary on the Divine Liturgy. I also wonder why so few people at times in church. I guess it goes back to following the narrow way into heaven. I love the Liturgy.
It depends where you live. In the Eastern Europe the churches are so full on Sunday's that people have to worship in the hallway or outside, even though there are churches everywhere.
I always enjoy listening to Abbot Tryphon. Such a kind man. His comments about the great cloud of witnesses, those saints now in heaven attending the liturgy really increased my understanding and appreciation. I haven't been able to attend for a long time, but I'm sure I will in this life always be in wonder of it when I'm able to go.
Wow! I really appreciated what Abbot Tryphon had to say about the Dahlia! Very good description about having the variety of humanities in God's church to worship Him.
Not ez to say- this video brought tears to me , I am 60 and haven't been to church for years . Recently started reading and looking at vids like this . The spirit is there , don't know if worded right . I been " seeking" and can see it's not just a Sunday thing but a life ,,and read enough so far that this is a very disciplined religion ( lifestyle) and overwhelmed if I have what it takes . Trying to work up the , whatever , to go to a local one ,but think I will first look to speak to someone local and take the next baby step .. I can't stop reading , watching . Thank you for these vids ,and the saying about its like Catholicism on steroids made me laugh ..I have a couple relatives that are Catholics, but what I'm seeing and learning is not for the spiritually timid ( Lack of better way to say it ) but much much respect , especially in this world .
As a Protestant that is currently inquiring into Orthodoxy, I highly recommend you try to schedule time with a local priest. I recently found one that is local to me and he was gracious enough to meet with me and my wife and was able to endure the barrage of questions we had with an incredible amount of patience. It really was well worth our time and I suspect it will be worth yours as well. If I could give you any recommendation, it would be to write down all the outstanding questions or potential objections you have, then research them to see if you find a satisfactory answer. After that, take whatever remains to a local priest. I think you will be pleasantly surprised by the visit. For the record, I am still very much in the “inquirer” phase of this journey, but it is becoming more and more difficult to unsee what I have been exposed to and I think conversion is likely inevitable. May the grace and peace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you on your journey.
You're God's child created in His image, you 100% have what it takes. We're all going to be tempted to turn away from God whether we are actively living Christian lives or inactive until the day we die. I'm praying for your journey! There is so much peace, even in tribulation, through our Savior. God bless you brother
Roman Catholic here. I've become disillusioned with how fractured the church is with beliefs between each archdiosese, the homilies being so watered down into a modern feel good message, many strict traditions that I havent seen since my late teens, not to mention how soft the standards have become for the congregation to follow. I'm becoming more conviced that the Orthodox Church is the best path for me to regain faith and live a more Godly life. Any former catholics here that have converted?
Wow!!! Abbot Tryphon is so wise, so very, very wise. I have attended Russian Orthodox services in Russia and I couldn't understand a word of what was being said or chanted, BUT, just being there was amazing! The Abbot is right, the Divine Liturgy creates a place where time stands still. Sadly, the nearest Orthodox Church to me is around 300km away so I don't get to experience the Divine Liturgy unless it's on RUclips or a CD.
You know, what I have noticed in my personal experience, is more humbleness in orthodoxy, specially coming from the monks, nuns, priests or leaders. Or less focused in politics or authority or power. And I like it.
Godspeed, brother...may God continue to guide your steps! If you haven't already, you might find our recent book on Orthodoxy and Catholicism helpful: protectingveil.com/two-paths-orthodoxy-catholicism-romes-claims-of-papal-supremacy-in-the-light-of-orthodox-christian-teaching/
Thank you so much for this! I’m from another tradition and have recently come into contact with yours, and what the father said really struck home- it’s such a living tradition 🙏
I'm not even christian but I feel very drawn towards Orthodoxy. There is only one Greek orthodox church I have found in my country (Panama) but ever since Covid everytime I walk by it's closed! :( Hope I can attend mass soon.
I love the video it was very informative and he did a really good job of explain what can happen when we first join in the church and the differences of what we might be used to and how we should be humble going into it.
I am not orthodox but your message is clear across all followers of christ, except the radical "churches" very good point about a solid follower of christ and not seen by man but by God
I am Latin rite and I am honestly curious about Orthodoxy. I've been to Tridentine masses and I've been to Novus Ordo (though I do not like the latter) but I have been honestly curious about Orthodoxy for a while and respect how Abbot Tryphon explained it as "Catholicism on steroids". The part that got me was when he told the story of the old woman, and the level of reverence that is honestly not seen in many churches, especially Novus Ordo. The issue is that I live in the Evangelic bible belt of mega churches and thrashing on the ground "catching the holy ghost". But when he explained the level if reverence, apologies it honestly spoke to me, I just couldn't help but well up a little.
I like that as I inquired into the Church, all I did was stand at the back, and yes, I watched people! It felt right, but I didn't know what to do, so I just watched what the old women did, haha, and copied them! Once, I arrived late because of the snow, and could only find a seat near the front. I knew what to do by then for the most part, but then an old woman said to me later in a hushed tone that I was crossing myself too quickly, and too small! She said in the most broken English "*Do it big. Big, so the devil may see!*" I always remember that.
When pressed, I always hear that you don't pray TO the saints for things but only pray that they would pray for you, but you said it, and it's the truth. Who needs Jesus and God when you have the saints? A multitude of gods, one for every need.
Getting father Tryon I am almost heading towards my cremation and I'm going to class today and making it through it and going through everything I can't wait I'm so excited I'm almost finished and I'm working hard on it too
I had the opportunity to meet Abbot Tryphon way back in the early 1990's. Very good preacher and kind person. "God is the God of the living not the dead." Sound familiar?

I was a Protestant for several years as well before coming home to the Catholic Church. Praise God you are discovering the heritage of Christianity. I’d urge you also to prayerfully look into the Catholic Church and especially the necessity of the Visible Church to have a visible Head.

I was baptised Roman Catholic about a year ago after spending a couple of years as a catechumen. I am undergoing an internal struggle within myself between Roman Catholicism and Eastern Orthodoxy. I pray that Christ leads me, chief of sinners, to the right path

I am Roman Catholic but have doubts about the papacy etc
You are correct. I do not want to leave. The holiness of Orthodoxy which reaches me up to God fills my soul.
Welcome home to the original church of christ
There is no veneration of icons or saints. Reverence yes, but veneration is only for God and Jesus. They are 2 different things.
Sterian Burghelea You are a bit mixed up. Veneration is fine, worship is for God only.
I'm 19 looking to convert to Orthodoxy as well!
Please pray for me brothers and sisters. I’ve been living and working in a country without much of any Christianity/no orthodox churches around. But I’ll be moving home this year with my wife and are excited to go to an Orthodox Church for the first time.

Good strength, Jill...thank you for sharing your story...may God continue to guide you!
The Lord Jesus Christ loves us, and will always be there for us in our hour of need.

"Oh my God! I've come home." Yes, thank God. And for the old man in a walker, who always sat in front of me, bent over and exuding joy.
Praise God!
Thank you, Abbot Tryphon!!! I wish you good health, so you can continue to share with us what you have learned and experienced in Orthodoxy.
Am catholic.. but i will try to step in an othordox church for the first time and attend a mass. Thank u. I want to feel this
May God continue to guide your steps! Thanks for stopping by!
Do not abandon the barque of Peter. I like eastern spirituality as well, but you can find it in eastern rite Catholicism.

Thank you for the information that you shared. I’m a former Roman Catholic getting confirmed on Palm Sunday at St. Barbara’s Greek Orthodox Church.

It is prohibited to create images and worship them as God.

What such wise and blessed man. I learned a lot watching this. I’m from Brazil and proudly an orthodox.
I haven't gone to church in a couple of years.. But I remember feeling at home when I went and great spiritual power as well.. I miss the Liturgy...
God protect and have Mercy on him. Especially in these times.
Like Father, when I first went to the Orthodox Church, I too said “I am home” ☦️♥️ Glory to God Most High!
I’ve just took interest in the Orthodox Church earlier this month. It’s nice to see that this man here, Abbot Tryphon, is from my very city too
This is exactly how I feel!!

This is at least the second time listening to this. It gets better every time. What a wonderful and insightful explanation of the Liturgy. There is far more heavenly action going on than we may have realized. I wish I was near to attend regularly.
Thanks to God...glad you found it helpful, Craig!
I loved the commentary on the Divine Liturgy. I also wonder why so few people at times in church. I guess it goes back to following the narrow way into heaven. I love the Liturgy.
Alas...it is a difficult saying that we need to always remember!

Thank you for these vids ,and the saying about its like Catholicism on steroids made me laugh ..I have a couple relatives that are Catholics, but what I'm seeing and learning is not for the spiritually timid
( Lack of better way to say it ) but much much respect , especially in this world .
Thank you, Abbot & Protecting Veil, for sharing this.

Abbot Tryphon is a very wise and pious man. I learned a lot from this video.
Christ is Risen! Indeed...thanks to God!
That's brilliant what Abbot Tryphon says about becoming icons.
Thank you for this video andnthank you Father God for leading me here. You counsel the lost and lead the blind with grace. Amen.

I really like his comment about the need for humility and the host of saints in any church.
You know, what I have noticed in my personal experience, is more humbleness in orthodoxy, specially coming from the monks, nuns, priests or leaders. Or less focused in politics or authority or power. And I like it.
Glory to God!
Father Tryphon is extremely insightful and deep. Based on my quite limited experience he is one of a kind.

I loved it. Perfectly simply stated. God is love.
Christ is Risen! Thanks to God!
