Jagger was sick of the Stones ALL in such a mess for various reasons (Bill & Mandy Smith, Charlie heroin, Ronnie on crack & booze & Keith in no man's land etc.. )
Jagger wanted to get away from it & lots of his solo stuff is different & excellent!!
eg Wandering Spirit' is a brilliant album!
But it did not blow The Doors

Absolutely a masterpiece. When it was released, I figured "oh, well, it's Keith. Gotta be a few good songs." Hell, I played the album non-stop for weeks! It is still one of my favorite albums by anybody ever. It is the master template for riffs and rocknroll.

This is an old post I'm commenting on, but I've always thought that this video, of this song, by this band, is the total epitome of Cool. Saw the Winos in Vancouver. One of the best shows I've ever seen.
@Michael Yanagita Both Winos albums are excellent. Crosseyed Heart is one of my favorite releases of the past 5 years. Anything Keith touches is basically music gold to me.

Keith Richard is such a badass. One of rock's greatest guitarists. He wrote this song for The Rolling Stones but due to a fallout with Mick, he ended up making a solo album and recorded this song himself. Kickass tune. Oozes with attitude and swagger. I love this! Rock 'n roll is the best music. The right music.

I saw Keith in concert on this solo tour in 1993 at Massey Hall in Toronto. One of the best shows I've ever seen. I've seen The Stones about ten times, and Keith was always great. But this was a Keith night, and he was great! He and the Wino's were amazing. And Bobby Keys was there that night too, which was very cool.
Not only THE guitarist, he's also a terrific rock'n'roll singer.
I love his raspy, snarly voice, it just drips JD and nicotine. "Happy" is my fav Keef vocal. "I always took candy from strangers....". I just have this image of a bonneted baby Keef in his carriage, with his skull ring, dragging on a cig, ripping the candy out of a strangers hand and telling him to fuc* off....lol
He is a modern day maestro

The video is perfectly Keith. The song is a great Keef anthem, and the video...well, it's about as well-synchronized as Keith is in concert. It's reflective of his flexible relationship with the lyrics of the songs he sings live. The song is at point A, while Keith is at point B? No matter. You shouldn't take it so hard. Brilliant.

One of the happiest moments of my life was when I saw Keith and the Rolling Stones perform at Giants Stadium for the Bridges to Babylon tour. Keith Richards is one of those few people the can make the chandeliers shake when they enter a room.
