    • @blackspace007
      @blackspace007 8 лет назад +20

      I wouldn't take that as racist. Back in 1965, martial arts was very much an unknown art outside of the Asian population, and even than it was only some people who studied it. Bruce Lee caught a lot of flack for teaching it in the U.S from the Masters in China, so back than, very much a big deal to even be in a class learning it. Now there's McDojo's all over the place, handing out black belts in 6 mos. Improperly calling it Karate whether it's Chinese, Korean, Japanese etc styles. That was 1965...not 2016

    Bruce Lee wasn't about "teaching how to kick ass", he was a highly philosophical and spiritual man. This just seems to make him look like some street punk teaching aggression, not self defence. What the fuck is this?

    • @TakeOnNE1

      He was wildly arrogant before meeting Yip Kai-man. After that he learned what taught him to become the martial arts figure the world knows only through movies.

      In fact he was fighting against other TRIADS at the time that his father send him away to USA. Just like nowadays when kids in HK got send abroad to seek enlightment. SO he is definitely arrogant!! But his skills are worth the arrogance he displayed!!!

    • @danielhill3261
      @danielhill3261 7 лет назад +5

      I can promise you that the fight looked nothing like it does in this trailer- what with the monk running up the wall and then cartwheeling over Lee's head.
      This "based on a true-story fight scene" is so obviously inspired by the "Matrix" fight scene between Neo and Morpheus, that I wouldn't be surprised if Yuen Woo-Ping choreographed it.

    Bruce Lee as a philosopher first before a martial artist... he isn't a douche bag, or a showy guy. And also, Bruce Lee hates big movements because it makes you slower. His Jeet Kune Do is minimal movement with maximum effect... not this flowery BS this film is showing.

    • @7srchoed
      @7srchoed 8 лет назад +24

      Yeah, that's my point. Adding a third perspective because you can't have the two leads be people of color. "Too Ethnic." Major studios constantly do this, they can never tell the story of people of color through their own eyes. They are never allowed to tell their own story. Maybe the studios are right to have such low opinions of the majority mainstream audience that they can't relate to a character outside their culture. They have to add a white face to basically play "the viewer".

    • @7srchoed
      @7srchoed 8 лет назад +6

      Wow, so many words on the basis that you assumed I'm white. Damn it, those movie studios are right and you're their target audience. "The Last Samurai" was your fault.

    • @KingNefiiria
      @KingNefiiria 8 лет назад +8

      Yo Yo The Last Samurai was about a white man who had to adjust to a new culture because he was taken in as their prisoner. It could have been about any other non-Asian culture and it would have made just as much sense. Brad Pitt got the part because he's famous and people like him.
      Again, chill the fuck out. You assume a lot about a culture you seem to understand very little about.
      The equivalent of this is China making a film about boxing and they want a Chinese lead. America is still predominantly white, and Western Culture is still predominantly white. If you have a problem with that, *feel free to move to any other non-western country that provides you the same convenience and freedom to complain about something as **_stupid_** as what you are complaining about right now,* while not getting punished for it. SJW's only exist in the Western World because our laws provide them the freedom to spout their dumb-ass rhetoric all day long with no repercussions.

      normally i'm totally on board with booing out this whitewashing thing. like when they make a movie about another ethnicity and cast them with white people. but in this case, it actually kinda makes sense, as it has been said, that the fight occured because the chinese community of san francisco didn't want bruce lee to teach kung fu to non chinese. check out bruce lees wikipedia page. it's written down there.

      William Weaver Oh so you admit you have no proof then why should all of the people believe what you say then? You pretty much stated you have no proof but yet you call me an idiot..BTW I saw your edited comment so no need to hide it
      Also you stated that Kindle's quote has no proof even though it was from bruce lee's own daugher who knew him, and you back that up by saying we should get a dictionary..My god the idea of backing up your statements make little sense
      Anyway, If it is in his book, show a quotation from it since I'm positive you read that book with your heart and are willing to back your statements with it...What documentaries again show some proof..
      People that met bruce lee? While I do not deny that a lot of people did meet bruce lee and document his info from him, but the issue here is that, these kind of statements will always be taken with a grain of salt since anyone could claim such a thing especially on the internet.
      Again I'm trying to prove myself wrong here and be educated by someone who is willing not to pull crap out of thin air, but I guess you aren't taking that chance

      That was a great film, quite stirring, and very much in the spirit of what Bruce meant to us all. But, but, but no one watches that film anymore. Certainly not today's younger generations. So, any new film will be like a necessary history lesson at worst and a great film at best.

      jason singh Wrong. BL was a Philosopher (he literally has a degree) and a student of fighting arts. Anytime he fought (as an adult) it was not this cocky "I'm perfect) kind of way this trailer makes it out to be. As you learn Jeet Kun Do, one of the lessons he teaches is to not go into a fight thinking that you are going to win, but to focus on the task at hand. This version of BL goes into every fight thinking he will win.
      He only challenged other styles and masters because they told him he was crazy for being free thinking with his martial arts. He offered a challenge to them yo test their theory that his style was bad. The other masters lost.
      In fact, most of what the monk is preaching in the trailer are the things that BL was actually preaching to the Old Chinese Masters and masters of other styles.
      I have studied this my whole life. This movie is a disgrace to put BL's name to it...at least from what the trailer shows.

    Again this is awful how they distort from reality. In the movie Dragon' The Bruce Lee Story (1993) Won Jack Man becomes responsible for Bruce Lee's back injury, for in reality Bruce Lee did a bad barbell move when training his back. In this they make won a hero and Bruce a almost villain. Bruce was well know for his short temper, but in his life he was for every one a role model after his crazy years as a teenager, he had become a very respectful person. He was real competitive and mostly demanding on himself, but he was respectful for his teachers, something Dan Inosanto still tell his audience in seminars. So what is this movie. I believe that the fight between Bruce and Won might have been more then the Lee clan tends to tell I believe Won most probably gave a better fight, but that Bruce did win. None were seriously injured from the fight and Bruce won the respect of the Chinese community has a real Kung Fu teacher. This BIRTH OF THE DRAGON movie is mostly fiction and his a disgrace to the memory of the man and genius in his own way that Bruce Lee was. Read the Tao Of Jeet Kune Do, do a few martial arts styles for a few years then practice some of the Jun Fan Gung Fu (The form of Jeet Kune Do that was taught in Bruce Lee's kwan). Then you will understand how much Bruce understood the human body when it came to the possibility of using it martial arts. Otherwise it is just gossip when it comes to judge Bruce Lee. I practiced mostly Karate and Taii Jutsu with some Japanese weapon. I would never give up on my Tai jutsu techniques, but my way is no way so I incorporate like JKD philosophy suggest. I did some Jun Fan Gun Fu, but for me reading the Tao of Jeet Kune Do was more instructive, yet practicing JKD was good for learning real sparring skills with some contact fighting. I would like to learn more of Jung Fan Gung Fu, but the schools are a little expansive in my region. Jumg Fan Gung Fu is a style, where JKD is a philosophy. You can say I have my own JKD with very little Jun Fan Gung Fu in it

      The barbell exercise was Good Mornings. He put too much weight and did not properly warm up prior to the exercise thus seriously injuring his back. Also read The Art of Expressing The Human Body, the fight, according to the book states that Bruce spent most of it chasing the other guy around getting winded, as a result, he changed his training methods to include more cardio. He was ALWAYS studying and looking for new and innovative ways to improve himself.

      And the accounts of that infamous fight is not even clear.
      The popular belief was Bruce made Won give up.
      Some claim it was a draw after the two became too exhausted from all the wrestling. That's why Lee was so disappointed.
      Lee also did not have a studio in San Fran. It was in Oakland .
      He did study some Filipino weaponry.

      And oh, Won was a waiter in a restaurant in Oakland .
      Bruce was a waiter in his late teens in Seattle.
      After their fight, Linda and Bruce actually had dinner at a restaurant Won was working in. He couldn't show his face to them after realizing they were there, as the story went.
      He definitely was not a Monk who happens to speak English very well. lol

After this fight he had with Wing Jack Man, he changed his way of fighting and thinking. Hence the title "Birth of the Dragon." This movie is not tarnishing his legacy. It is helping people remember how a legend was born.

    • @AERNIGH

      The US takes actors and gives them a crash course in martial arts. Asia takes martial artists and gives them a crash course in acting. If you actually want to see good martial arts, the US isn't the best place to look. We may have a few standouts, but you're better off going to the source.

So bruce told him they can settle it in a fight, if wong wins bruce will stop teaching. The fight lasted about 2 min and bruce was only hit twice before wong begging to give up

      Yeah. Based on Meo S. I did several research on Bruce Lee a while ago. If you want to know if the story is correct, then, no. The only thing correct is they fought, and the names. First, Wong Jack Man, a San Francisco Chinese martial artists, challenged Bruce Lee to a fight, if claimed victory, Bruce would have to stop teaching marital arts to non-chinese and caucasians. The fight only lasted for 3 minuets, stated by a documentary. Wong Jack Man did not "TEACH" bruce lee about "self discipline" and "limitation" Bruce Lee was dissapointed with the fight, thinking that he could have betten him faster, but back then he was only using Wing Chun, and sees many flaws with his fighting style that only "LIMITS" him to one way of fighting, and realizes,
      "Using no way as a way; having no limitation as limitation."- Bruce Lee.

    Oh wow! Phillip Ng, student of Bruce Lee's Wing Chun brother Hawkins Cheung, is the perfect person to play this role. If you've seen the movie Once Upon a Time in Shanghai you'll know what I mean. Awesome martial artist and this looks like an awesome movie. As for the naysayers who will say "That's not how the fight happened"...well...nobody knows. Wong Jack Man has his side of the story. Bruce Lee had his side, which Linda Lee repeats. Each side has a vested interest in his/her side being "right." I'm glad they made the movie so that it respects both martial artists.
