Honestly, though, if they make this some light-hearted kids movie with a "lesson" at the end where everyone hugs it out, I will demand my money back. That was good as a kid, but I'm an adult now. And my age group are what they're trying to market to, more than likely. All the hollywood reboots these days are trying to ride the nostalgia train. Plus, we already have the original MMPR Movie, one is enough, because they can never reach that level of awesome, since the 90s/00s are gone.
ChakatBlackstar well they don't necissarily need to have a lesson, at least not a blatant one as shown with the later power ranger series giving lessons without flat out shoving it down your throat. and some of it got fairly serious when it needed to. that was one of the cool parts about some of the seasons like in space, time force and RPM. the show knew how to get serious when they needed to. it was a legitimate display of maturity.

The Rotten Tomatoes score definitely put people off and Lionsgate made a loss. A lot of people tend to hate on movies based on tv shows and stuff unfortunately. What I see is a total revamping of the franchise, while still keeping the entertaining yet cliche elements of the original. Rita seems much more menacing than she did in the TV show, and that's commendable. All things considered, this movie seems to be geared more toward the original Power Rangers fans, being as we're all grown up now, and it seems to have much more...mature themes to it. I HOPE this movie however, does not try to be more than it is- A Power Rangers movie.

As they're all morphing, camera close up to Red Ranger's chest armor bearing the power rangers logo aaand theeeen... *cue ACTUAL POWER RANGERS LOGO *cue credits. You'll probably only hear the iconic "GO GO POWER RANGERS!" theme during the credits (nowhere else in the movie), but likely a heavily remixed version.
Maybe it'll come up in the fight scenes, after they've learned how to use their powers. It's been a while, but that Ron Wasserman song still kicks ass. The world needs more Power Metal.

I fear it will suck... it is starting with that really lame cliché of high school drama followed by discovering an alien device in the dessert followed by getting super powers... it looks like they do not even get to the fun stuff like the robots or the power suits till really late in the movie...

All the haters are looking at this wrong. I think its a good idea. You can't seriously have a remake of the original series in 2017. It just wouldn't work. The cheesiness of the original series worked in a certain time and place, but wouldn't work in a movie in 2017. This is gonna be a whole new take on the story. It won't be better or worse, it will just be.

Maybe killed it in the "It's not a kitschy kid's episodic show with only a need for a 'bad guy of the week', in which the actual fighting is done by cutting in sequences from another Japanese show", then sure! But what it's done is take people's nostalgia and seemingly add a Marvelesque flair to appeal to the actual adults who watched the original show. Trust me, no adult wants to see the actual same show again, or we'd just watch one of the old episodes, since they're pretty forgettable in terms of actual plot. You could watch the same one again in a week and have it be fresh again, too. If a movie was made same as the TV show, it'd only appeal to 7 year olds who don't know any better, not your current age range in the first place. And who don't spend actual money themselves anyway. It's all about profits, ultimately, and a movie made with the same production values and forgettable plots would have made no money from targetting 7 year olds. They needed to target the adults who watched the show as kids and appeal to their nostalgia while appreciating our tastes have matured too. Or should have. If your tastes are still those of a 7 year old, like I said, go and watch an old episode. Hell watch loads of them. There's more content than the movie's runtime anyway.

lol I remember when I was a kid, the black one was a black guy, and the yellow one was a asian chick, and no one had any problem with that. now they have to mix up the colors of their skins and of their costumes because of political correctness.
Well, the originals were that, but partway threw season 2 they made up 2/3rds of the cast that left. The replacements reversed it where the black ranger was an Asian guy (and is the third-longest serving ranger) and the yellow ranger was a black girl. And personally, I don't care if they get the character's races the same as their original counterparts, just so long as they make a good movie, because at the end of the day, that's the important part.

Finally, a dark gritty origin story movie based on an IP for children from the 80s/90s. edit: Oh snap, it is an origin story too! Thank the gods they will spent an entire movie showing us how they get their powers and learn to be a team, because otherwise this premise would be unbelievable.
Sadly... way higher probability than what I was hoping for which is a 30/30/30 split (with some room for added flavor). 30 minutes at most of "Here's the characters and their problems." 30 minutes of "Discovered powers, learn to use them." 30 minutes presenting the threat and how big of one it will be. probably a good 15-30 minutes of fighting against the main villain.
Cheapest way to make audience care about your characters : _ make them get bullied. _ be sure they are all nerds or hipsters. _ give them daddy / school / society issues. _ recycle all the musical clichés from this century.

To be fair, the original show had all of that already. It was also extremely cheesy, corny, and had quixotic costume designs (though to be fair that was just 90's fashion trends)

My point was that mostly the trailer shows angsty teen movie tropes. Jason's dark past... Kimberly being harassed by the other cheerleaders for missing practice... Billy being a socially awkward nerd... Angel Grove is a small slightly rundown rural town...then the slightly weird and not expect sci-fi stuff starts. My question and problem, How long till they suit up? How many non hero minutes of teen melodrama is there till the weird starts and how long until a power ranger movie starts? Trailers tend to show little bits of the movie. This is what they're showing action posing out of context and nothing that looks like the Original Power Rangers.
keeping up whit dragon ball superpowers and special effects was too much for db evolution, and they weren't able to successfully adapt a anime series to the theater. Power rangers isnt a cartoon, the directors of this project have lots of material where to learn from, LOTS, to learn what was succesfull in the power rangers series and what wasnt, im sure they'll make a worth awhile movie.

In later power ranger seasons, the rangers become enhanced when they get their powers. Or they are already mutants.. It's not the suits that give them their abilities, it's the power itself.. that's why, whenever you see a ranger transfer his/her power or loose their power, they look like they are about to pass out, because their bodies go back to their original state before getting that power. Hope that helps.
The reaction in the movie theater to this trailer was unbelievable. When the title came up, people were laughing, whooping and cheering, going "no way!" and a few people clapped. I had not seen a reaction that strong since The Dark Knight Rises trailer.

Episode after episode, season after season I knew in my heart they could do nothing that would ruin me being a fan. Today I am 36 years old, married 16 years, father of 3 sons and I know now what I knew then. I am such a fan that they can do no wrong for ME. I can't wait!!!

Maybe killed it in the "It's not a kitschy kid's episodic show with only a need for a 'bad guy of the week', in which the actual fighting is done by cutting in sequences from another Japanese show", then sure!
But what it's done is take people's nostalgia and seemingly add a Marvelesque flair to appeal to the actual adults who watched the original show. Trust me, no adult wants to see the actual same show again, or we'd just watch one of the old episodes, since they're pretty forgettable in terms of actual plot. You could watch the same one again in a week and have it be fresh again, too.
If a movie was made same as the TV show, it'd only appeal to 7 year olds who don't know any better, not your current age range in the first place. And who don't spend actual money themselves anyway.
It's all about profits, ultimately, and a movie made with the same production values and forgettable plots would have made no money from targetting 7 year olds. They needed to target the adults who watched the show as kids and appeal to their nostalgia while appreciating our tastes have matured too.
Or should have. If your tastes are still those of a 7 year old, like I said, go and watch an old episode. Hell watch loads of them. There's more content than the movie's runtime anyway.

It's been done. I believe it was Season 3, the black ranger was an Asian Guy, so this is nothing new.
Well, the originals were that, but partway threw season 2 they made up 2/3rds of the cast that left. The replacements reversed it where the black ranger was an Asian guy (and is the third-longest serving ranger) and the yellow ranger was a black girl.
And personally, I don't care if they get the character's races the same as their original counterparts, just so long as they make a good movie, because at the end of the day, that's the important part.

When did Power Rangers NOT LOOK LIKE HOT GARBAGE? I remember seeing the original show back when I was a kid, and looking back on it, it was always cheap looking with corny, cliché writing out of a Saturday Morning Kids show (which it was btw).Also, you can't possibly go to the movie theater to watch ONLY GOOD movies, because, you know, you're not psychic. You can't possibly know if a movie is going to be good before watching it or reading reviews made by other people. I do agree that a trailer can persuade you to either see or skip a movie, but I've seen movies that turned out to be garbage but had awesome trailers. Likewise, I've seen movies that turned out to be awesome but had crap trailers advertising them.

I didn't know the Power Rangers had super powers. I just assumed their snazzy Daft Punk helmets gave them fighting skills....
well, I'm guessing they're going with the kamen rider the first direction, where they have armor and transformations, but their powers are still usable as humans
IRC the suits gave them physical capabilities, but the fighting 'skills' themselves they had to train for.
In later power ranger seasons, the rangers become enhanced when they get their powers. Or they are already mutants.. It's not the suits that give them their abilities, it's the power itself.. that's why, whenever you see a ranger transfer his/her power or loose their power, they look like they are about to pass out, because their bodies go back to their original state before getting that power. Hope that helps.
It looks like their morphers enhance their natural abilities. And they probably don't know martial arts, from what the trailer shows.

The reaction in the movie theater to this trailer was unbelievable. When the title came up, people were laughing, whooping and cheering, going "no way!" and a few people clapped. I had not seen a reaction that strong since The Dark Knight Rises trailer.

Raximus3000 Kid-friendly, not low-quality. Everything's still just cardboard cut-outs and rubber monster puppets, even with how far other TV series have come in the way of costumes and special effects.
I mean do you think kids will care about that stuff tho? Why waste time and money trying to come out with so much new suits, special effects, and stuff when you can stick to the same thing people always liked since kids cant tell the difference anyways. I remember as a 13 year old kid just head over heels in love with the rangers. I thought I was Tommy. Episode after episode, season after season I knew in my heart they could do nothing that would ruin me being a fan. Today I am 36 years old, married 16 years, father of 3 sons and I know now what I knew then. I am such a fan that they can do no wrong for ME. I can't wait!!!
