I had always been a GM fan and a few years ago was looking for a '90's TA (never liked the style of the Z28). I drove a few then I drove a couple Mustangs(GT's, Cobra), and can tell you the 350 was awesome. But nobody ever mentions build quality. EVERY Trans Am and GM from that era felt like it was going to crumble around me, whereas the Fords felt they they were much higher in quality. I bought a '95 Cobra and am not disappointed, but I am a fan of all AMERICAN muscle!
I own a 97 camaro and I have driven my friends 99 mustang and I have to agree with you the mustang has superior build quality and they don't tend to rust as much as the F-Bodies
its a 4.6 vs a 5.7? the 5.7 is more then a liter bigger the 4.6 and the terminator can still hold more power without problems. Actually it doesnt make 90 more hp ? the cobra only had 9 more wheel then the maro in this video lol actually watch the video before commenting. And stock for stock gm under rated the ls1, it actually made 340 to the wheels like the cobra was making only a little bit more to the wheels. Either way 9 times out of 10 the camaro is staring at the cobras tale lights and when they arent is when they have to use the bottle... Win by half a car or 4 cars it makes no difference, winning is winning and thats something the camaros havent been able to do in a long time

The IRS in the cobra dates back to the old T-bird supercoupe, and half-shafts have been known to go in stock form if you launch hard enough. The 10-bolt is equally capable but a well known weak link in the 4th gen F-bodies. All the same, id rather drive a GT/Cobra or WS6 TA than anything from japan.

The cars that ls1 was built to race was the Mustang Gt with 265hp and 302 the 1 running 14s in the 1/4 mile.Even the cobras that where being made at the time couldn't take them down.It wasnt till after the Camaro was out of Production this beats of a car came to be In 2003.

@VirgoMentality Well from my knowledge, the gas is held in a tank located somewhere in the car and when you press your button to release the nitrous is goes through your system and freezes the air, making the air that goes into your piston much, much denser, resulting in bigger combustions
@RadOne83 also the 04 cobra in this vid really makes about 430hp not the advertised 385hp. ford actually came out and said they really underrated the cobra. but this is why on the internet you can find a full bolt on ls1 run right with a cobra cause they made 350 so with bolt ons it wasnt hard to break 400, throw heads/cam on there too and youll be close to 500hp
It could also be argued that mustangs wouldn't stand a chance without a supercharger. Doesn't matter what flavor it is, a power adder is a power adder. Ford just takes an extra step that car enthusiasts will eventually perform, in our quests for power; More fuel or more air. Ford just takes care of the forced induction for us.
***** Ford motors are more efficient. They make power with smaller cubes than dodge or chevy. Chevy uses a simpler structure that can be optimized by swapping parts here and there, more user-friendly. Dodge... Dodge just has a lot of cubes and a nice sound from the factory. This is coming from a chevy guy.
@SuRihtanil Btw just to let you know I am not just talking from what I have seen. I have personally run a 125 shot with a Nano setup, and progressive tune on a Stock SS LS1 and never had a problem, except I blew the rear end from running stickys on it with the Nitrous. I had it on a full throttle switch with the Nitrous Express Ash tray switch block. My Window switch was kept in the Glove box. But I never had any problems motor wise. So you might want to do a little research.
well I never said i was talking just about the termi, 99-01 is 55.5/44.5 and the termi is 57/44 if I'm not mistaken. I know that 99-01's have the best distribution out of the 4.6's, the 03-04's vary a bit but remember that they also have IRS, so again, that's more weight at the rear. All I know is that with a k member and battery relocation you can take a 99 to 50/50
People nowadays don't know how to have proper controversy smh. It doesn't matter that the termi is supercharged, if you'd look at the specs before the race you can see that both cars are pretty much evenly matched. True enthusiasts know that all cars are great and should give credit where it's due. I love Ford but I'm not blinded by biased opinion. The LS series hands down is among some of the best motors ever built. Both of these cars are amazing and I'd love to drive own both of them one day. @luvscience44 a roots style supercharger broadens the torque curve and can maintain a higher amount of torque over low medium and high rpms. the camaro may make a few lbs more but it will be at 4500 rpm and its torque curve will be spiked. just a heads up on the difference
I've Owned both, both are great cars. 11.70s-11.80's with drag radials and a 125 shot of nitrous on the Ls1. Pulley and Drag radials will net the same with the Cobra. Great vehicles. Biggest weakness is the 7.5" rear in the F bodys.
I’ve owned both. An 04 Cobra with the 2.76 pulley and exhaust and a 2000 Camaro SS with heads, cam, and 150 shot. My Camaro with its 600 hp would blow the doors off the Cobra with its 460hp as both were around the same race weight. For years the 5.7 shit on the DOHC 4.6....then in 03 the Cobra comes out and guys were adding pullies and exhaust only to get smoked by stock 5.7’s with a bottle. Power adder vs power adder, Cobra got smoked. Drop a forged 408 with TT in the Camaro and TT the Cobra with a beefed up input shaft and other supporting mods and then it’s an actual race.
They didn't "shit" on the 4v. The 4v was faster than the lt1 and was just behind the ls1. It was close enough to be a driver race edge to the ls. It was much more forgiving to bad drivers. What I mean is short shifting the camaro won't hurt it nearly as bad as doing the same in the 4v. So bad drivers make the 4v look bad. The 4v could absolutely hold its own against the much larger gm engines of the era. The camaro was a little heavier. Your camaro was modded alot more than your cobra and had another 150 rwhp at similar weight of course it would be faster. God some people are stupid. You're comparing a heads cam 150 shot 5.7 ls1 against a bolt on terminator. You can simply blower swap the cobra and spank that nitrous huffing heads cam 5.7. Of course this coming from some idiot who said the 5.7 "shit on" 4.6 4v for years. They had a slight advantage from 98-02 and were slightly behind prior to that.
Pullers and exhaust is super simple mods. The bottle running 150 shot is far from a simple mod. You're talking about building a forged 408 with nitrous to take on a tt stock motor 4.6 cobra lmao. God dude you are trying so hard to paint the camaro as superior and you're just failing miserably.
@TheZohaun the correction is that the s/c cobra was having alittle trouble beating the z28 w/o nos. then the camaro completely spanked the cobra with the 100 shot.
@WALL45tech If you have it setup wrong or are running too large of a shot of the specific motor then yes, of course your going to have problems! On an LS1 Motor(I am speaking from experience) you do not have to tune, or pull timing until you run a 125 wet shot or more! You can easily run a correctly setup 100 wet shot and down on a stock LS Motor with no problems. But once you hit 125, do some fine tuning and you still won't have any problems.
@josiahcuster97 Being an actual Mustang owner, I have to concur with mangekyouuchiha88 The Cobra's weight for 03/04 Cobra is as follows Coupe 3665 lbs. / Convt. 3780 lbs. This is direct from Ford's Spec sheets. GT Coupe weighed +/- 3280lbs, V6 +/- 3115lbs. The 03/04 Cobra is also heavier not just from the IRS, but from the Iron block that Ford went back to. Previous year Cobras (96-01) Were all aluminum.

@MetalRulesRapSux Only certain editions have slp packages genius like the SLP Edition! They are the ones that have the dual center exhaust that are together on the center of the rear bumper. That is a SLP Edition.
@RadOne83 Aluminum alloy wheels and a carbon fiber driveshaft will help you retain more of that power. Yet, getting those numbers with exhaust... I'm going to have to agree.
@shugknight412 Yeah and without the nitrous that Camaro was just on headers/exhaust. So for a 100 shot, headers, exhaust the Camaro actually did pretty well. Plus that LS1 had like maybe 1 grand in mods depending on how cheap he went put into a 8-9k car.
@SuRihtanil um no sir that would not be the case. you forget that the cobra bottom end is forged and gt internals are not. the two valve heads are a restriction and dont flow nearly as well as 4-valve heads. also since a GT isnt supercharged youre going to need all the little things like a complete fuel system to keep up with the demands of a 2.8 KB blower or the intercooler heat exchanger piping intake MAF...

Good race, true Mustang guys never underestimate the LS1, I own a 97GT with a 3v swap and a 5spd and even with bolt ons LS1's are usually right there with similar mods. Coyote swap soon though :D
92 Ford Escort GT 1.8. Had close to 650k on it. The guy that has it now drives it daily. That's 16 years of taking care of a car. The 4 years I had it I hardly ever drove it hard like most people do their cars.

Tell me, what's the difference between adding nitrous to an LSx and adding a pulley to a cobra, both are power mods? I do have a friend with a twin turbo 03 cobra with a built motor and nitrous who regularly gets walked by my sprayed 99 camaro. ;) Feel free to check my videos, none of it racing, but you can hear it running.
Yea that was a reply to someone, you should read his comment to understand why I mention that. The mustangs were on a losing streak and they finally redeemed them selves with a supercharged car, but Camaro's were already running 8 seconds before 03.

If you havent noticed the new mustang isn't really comparable to other muscle cars as it is more of a sports car now. The new mustang was designed to be able to beat a bmw m3, while stock around the track and at the drag strip. Even in the world of racing the mustang boss 302s are usually at the front followed by bmw m3's and camaros behind them. Also, the new gt500 can pull over 1.02g and has an acceleration to 60 time of 3.5 seconds almost as fast as a corvette zr1 and cost half.

Rite, but we are talking the terminator engine to the gt motor the gt motor should be lighter because it doesn't have a supercharger and inter-cooler with with the heat exchanger and all that. And shouldn't dohc heads be heavier than sohc heads also ?
Like i said before. It all comes down to the setup of drivetrain, gears, and etc! The thing about the drivetrain is how much HP you lose from the crank to the wheels. My SS dynoed at 316 to the wheels stock. So I probably have about 360-380 to the crank. So that means I'm losing about 40 to 60 HP through the stock drivetrain. I don't know all of the specs on the Cobra motors but if your making 400 to the wheels that means Cobras must be pretty damn heavy for me to keep up with them! with 320hp!

Sam Ace Rothstein You're a badass on the keyboard, Ls1 is physically smaller because its a pushrod ohv v8, the 4.6 cobra motor is a dohc 32 valve engine. And Jeremy, the 5.2 Voodoo engine is N/A and makes 530 Horsepower.
DevasionX good point, the ls1 is a pushrod v8, meaning it's older technology compared to your dohc. yet, it was more efficient, more powerful, lighter weight, and smaller than fords shitty 4.6. thanks for inadvertently supporting my argument. ls1 f-body cars were faster than GTs for 8 years after they were already out of production.

@VirgoMentality Well from my knowledge, the gas is held in a tank located somewhere in the car and when you press your button to release the nitrous is goes through your system and freezes the air, making the air that goes into your piston much, much denser, resulting in bigger combustions
@RadOne83 also the 04 cobra in this vid really makes about 430hp not the advertised 385hp. ford actually came out and said they really underrated the cobra. but this is why on the internet you can find a full bolt on ls1 run right with a cobra cause they made 350 so with bolt ons it wasnt hard to break 400, throw heads/cam on there too and youll be close to 500hp

Chevy uses a simpler structure that can be optimized by swapping parts here and there, more user-friendly. Dodge... Dodge just has a lot of cubes and a nice sound from the factory. @SuRihtanil Btw just to let you know I am not just talking from what I have seen. I have personally run a 125 shot with a Nano setup, and progressive tune on a Stock SS LS1 and never had a problem, except I blew the rear end from running stickys on it with the Nitrous. I had it on a full throttle switch with the Nitrous Express Ash tray switch block. My Window switch was kept in the Glove box. But I never had any problems motor wise. So you might want to do a little research.
well I never said i was talking just about the termi, 99-01 is 55.5/44.5 and the termi is 57/44 if I'm not mistaken. I know that 99-01's have the best distribution out of the 4.6's, the 03-04's vary a bit but remember that they also have IRS, so again, that's more weight at the rear. All I know is that with a k member and battery relocation you can take a 99 to 50/50
People nowadays don't know how to have proper controversy smh. It doesn't matter that the termi is supercharged, if you'd look at the specs before the race you can see that both cars are pretty much evenly matched. True enthusiasts know that all cars are great and should give credit where it's due. I love Ford but I'm not blinded by biased opinion. The LS series hands down is among some of the best motors ever built. Both of these cars are amazing and I'd love to drive own both of them one day. @luvscience44 a roots style supercharger broadens the torque curve and can maintain a higher amount of torque over low medium and high rpms. the camaro may make a few lbs more but it will be at 4500 rpm and its torque curve will be spiked. just a heads up on the difference

I've Owned both, both are great cars. 11.70s-11.80's with drag radials and a 125 shot of nitrous on the Ls1. Pulley and Drag radials will net the same with the Cobra. Great vehicles. Biggest weakness is the 7.5" rear in the F bodys.
I’ve owned both. An 04 Cobra with the 2.76 pulley and exhaust and a 2000 Camaro SS with heads, cam, and 150 shot. My Camaro with its 600 hp would blow the doors off the Cobra with its 460hp as both were around the same race weight. For years the 5.7 shit on the DOHC 4.6....then in 03 the Cobra comes out and guys were adding pullies and exhaust only to get smoked by stock 5.7’s with a bottle. Power adder vs power adder, Cobra got smoked. Drop a forged 408 with TT in the Camaro and TT the Cobra with a beefed up input shaft and other supporting mods and then it’s an actual race.
The cobras were pigs at like 3600+ due to the irs

They didn't "shit" on the 4v. The 4v was faster than the lt1 and was just behind the ls1. It was close enough to be a driver race edge to the ls. It was much more forgiving to bad drivers. What I mean is short shifting the camaro won't hurt it nearly as bad as doing the same in the 4v. So bad drivers make the 4v look bad. The 4v could absolutely hold its own against the much larger gm engines of the era. The camaro was a little heavier. Your camaro was modded alot more than your cobra and had another 150 rwhp at similar weight of course it would be faster. God some people are stupid. You're comparing a heads cam 150 shot 5.7 ls1 against a bolt on terminator. You can simply blower swap the cobra and spank that nitrous huffing heads cam 5.7. Of course this coming from some idiot who said the 5.7 "shit on" 4.6 4v for years. They had a slight advantage from 98-02 and were slightly behind prior to that.
Pullers and exhaust is super simple mods. The bottle running 150 shot is far from a simple mod. You're talking about building a forged 408 with nitrous to take on a tt stock motor 4.6 cobra lmao. God dude you are trying so hard to paint the camaro as superior and you're just failing miserably.
@TheZohaun the correction is that the s/c cobra was having alittle trouble beating the z28 w/o nos. then the camaro completely spanked the cobra with the 100 shot.

@WALL45tech If you have it setup wrong or are running too large of a shot of the specific motor then yes, of course your going to have problems! On an LS1 Motor(I am speaking from experience) you do not have to tune, or pull timing until you run a 125 wet shot or more! You can easily run a correctly setup 100 wet shot and down on a stock LS Motor with no problems. But once you hit 125, do some fine tuning and you still won't have any problems.

I have to concur with mangekyouuchiha88 The Cobra's weight for 03/04 Cobra is as follows Coupe 3665 lbs. / Convt. 3780 lbs. This is direct from Ford's Spec sheets. GT Coupe weighed +/- 3280lbs, V6 +/- 3115lbs. The 03/04 Cobra is also heavier not just from the IRS, but from the Iron block that Ford went back to. Previous year Cobras (96-01) Were all aluminum.
Yes 4.6l 32v and SVT actually says it's a 280 ,4601 cc's, but after it's supercharged it becomes a 6.5l.

@MetalRulesRapSux Only certain editions have slp packages genius like the SLP Edition! They are the ones that have the dual center exhaust that are together on the center of the rear bumper. That is a SLP Edition.
@RadOne83 Aluminum alloy wheels and a carbon fiber driveshaft will help you retain more of that power. Yet, getting those numbers with exhaust... I'm going to have to agree.

Yeah and without the nitrous that Camaro was just on headers/exhaust. So for a 100 shot, headers, exhaust the Camaro actually did pretty well.
Plus that LS1 had like maybe 1 grand in mods depending on how cheap he went put into a 8-9k car.
@SuRihtanil um no sir that would not be the case. you forget that the cobra bottom end is forged and gt internals are not. the two valve heads are a restriction and dont flow nearly as well as 4-valve heads. also since a GT isnt supercharged youre going to need all the little things like a complete fuel system to keep up with the demands of a 2.8 KB blower or the intercooler heat exchanger piping intake MAF...

Good race, true Mustang guys never underestimate the LS1, I own a 97GT with a 3v swap and a 5spd and even with bolt ons LS1's are usually right there with similar mods. Coyote swap soon though :D

@MulletRide dude your so right, the ls1's have so much potential. i have a tuned port injected regular old 350 and its so hard to get more juice out of it. i mean its a torque monster for being stock cam and heads and stuff, but you cant squeeze power out of it like you can the ls1's. thinking about carbing it, or getting holly's stealthram inj. eventually. should make things a lil better...

Tell me, what's the difference between adding nitrous to an LSx and adding a pulley to a cobra, both are power mods? I do have a friend with a twin turbo 03 cobra with a built motor and nitrous who regularly gets walked by my sprayed 99 camaro. ;) Feel free to check my videos, none of it racing, but you can hear it running.

Yea that was a reply to someone, you should read his comment to understand why I mention that. The mustangs were on a losing streak and they finally redeemed them selves with a supercharged car, but Camaro's were already running 8 seconds before 03.
I have seen a SRT8 Jeep run a 12.8 1/4. Next run on goes the NOS and BAM 11.8! Nitrous makes a huge difference. I want some

Im not quite sure what would be a fanboy comment is or who your directing this at but i would like to say I love camaros i really do but I just love the look of mustangs and the fact that they do come supercharged from the factory makes it nice to not have to do alot of modding to get good power but yeah i understand i guess still think its not a typical bolt on but I see your point!
If you havent noticed the new mustang isn't really comparable to other muscle cars as it is more of a sports car now. The new mustang was designed to be able to beat a bmw m3, while stock around the track and at the drag strip. Even in the world of racing the mustang boss 302s are usually at the front followed by bmw m3's and camaros behind them. Also, the new gt500 can pull over 1.02g and has an acceleration to 60 time of 3.5 seconds almost as fast as a corvette zr1 and cost half.

Rite, but we are talking the terminator engine to the gt motor the gt motor should be lighter because it doesn't have a supercharger and inter-cooler with with the heat exchanger and all that. And shouldn't dohc heads be heavier than sohc heads also ?
Like i said before. It all comes down to the setup of drivetrain, gears, and etc! The thing about the drivetrain is how much HP you lose from the crank to the wheels. My SS dynoed at 316 to the wheels stock. So I probably have about 360-380 to the crank. So that means I'm losing about 40 to 60 HP through the stock drivetrain. I don't know all of the specs on the Cobra motors but if your making 400 to the wheels that means Cobras must be pretty damn heavy for me to keep up with them! with 320hp!
