This was actualy my least favorite camaro until i bought one and its the funnest car ive ever driven

Considering the 1999 SS is only making around 320HP Vs the newer camaro’s 420HP I would say that’s definitely a good race.
If its an automatic 2010 SS its only making 400 HP from the factory. But still a big difference. Plus the 2010 weighs a few more hundred pounds. But that LS1 pulls hard forsure. Def looked like a lot of fun!

I have an 01. 01-02 run a lot better. Ls6 intake, 241 heads. Have better parts. Just did longtubes, straight pipe, slp lid, tune, plugs and wires. Runs strong!

You can tell the 5th gen makes more horsepower when it starts to pull away after a few gears. The 4th gen has enough torque to match the newer camaro for a while, but the 5th gen would only widen the gap after 60-65. For a car that's ten years newer though, that F body didn't do bad.

The LS1 started it all. The F-body is lighter too. My 01 m6 stripper weighed 3339 lbs. shipped. I'm currently at war with myself over upgrading to a 6th gen SS 1LE or maybe a used C7. Dreaming mostly. We live in an awesome time of automotive history.

22chuman I know what stripper means. I would expect it to be lighter. My buddies '00 Z28 stripper came in at 3300 flat on the scale when we weighed it. Although the scale only weighed in the nearest 50lbs increment. I'm assuming yours is T56? 4L60E car would be a bit heavier

I have a 98 4th gen LS1/4l60 with full suspension. Stock other than a lid and cut out. It hits turns well and still gets up. I also have a 2017 6th gen LT1/TR6060 it's faster in a line but doesn't take turns as well.

Hells yeah. You ever notice how many people are just so damned pissed all the time? They act all hard like they want to fight. Once I had one guy do a fly by, I flew by in return, and the next time we met at a light we ran it. He took me by a couple cars. At the next light, he threw out his arms and was all "WHAT NOW SON. HUH? WHAT NOW! SMOKED YO ASS" Another race; this was against a truck but he challenged me and I'm always up for a run (whether you have a 1.4 liter or a 10-second supercar we can do a little run doesn't matter for me if I'm gonna absolutely smoke you, get absolutely smoked, or run it close). After I took him "THAT DON'T MEAN SHIT. This is a TRUCK FAM! WHAT DID YOU THINK! If I had my [whatever his other car he was claiming was] I'D SMOKE THAT!" T_T I almost never initiate the challenge and only race when somebody else indicates they want to run it and afterwards all I do, every time, is smile, give a thumbs up and if possible say 'nice run', win or lose. And I'll still, every once in a while, meet jackasses like that. Not regularly, but often enough. Warms my heart to see good-natured competition where the loser isn't puffing up like the winner just had sex with his wife in front of half the neighborhood or the winner isn't dancing around like a moron telling the loser he should stick to sucking dick and leave the driving to others.

BoxingWave you should look up what you can do with ls 1 engines.... The 02 ws6 trans am is amazing because of it.... Massive ram air hood paired with an engine that with some tuning can put out well over 500hp and up to 700hp

Unfortunately just about any 98-02 Camaro SS costs over $10,000 unless is whooped and about to break in half. However, I still like the 4th gen more, so screw it lol.
I had a 93 z28 with lt1..... Maybe other people had better luck but mine was a head ache. I wanted a full upgrade. I was able to get a 2010 ss m6 for $15000. I'm so happy with it. Great performance, great sound, rides great. Interior is in great shape.

but this race wasn't about the top end.. The first 3 gears are great, even 4th is great, but yea i wish they had a 5th with the proper gearing so it could get to 160mph without reving so damn high. I assume the 6spd 4th gens can get to a higher speed. Maybe a 5spd auto would take too much hp from the rear wheels.
I do enjoy cruising/idling around in 2nd.. and being able to get alittle chrip from 1st to 2nd after waiting at a red light.
I’d take that 1999 any day over a new camaro. The new ones are so hard to see out of. I hate driving them. They feel big and bulky. I have a 1995 z28 and it’s way lighter and easier to see out of. It’s not an ls but still gotta appreciate the 4th gens.

I miss my 02 Z28, that car would get up and go. Those LS1's are tough ass engines. I almost blew mine though. It was really cold out and this Pontiac G8 kept messing with me. We raced down the highway and I was dusting him going over 140mph. We raced for about 5 min as I kept walking on him. When I exited the car started to overheat bad. I turned it off before the temp gauge pegged. I was pisses thought I surely blew a head gasket. It wouldnt start back up and I thought it was ruined. Had no antifreeze in it at all. I left it there to sit and cool off for about 30 min as I walked to autozone to get antifreeze. Filled it back up and it cranked right up. Didnt have that problem again. It had 190k on it and was probably beat up on its whole life. Was one of the funniest cars that I ever owned. I also had a 94 300zxTT which was fun in a different way. Still nothing beat that sound of that ls1. Loved how it would crank right up when I started it. Wish I never sold that car, can always get another one.

I bought a brand new 1998 SS Camaro and never lost a race. Rolled out of the dealer with less than 5 miles on it.I ordered it in like February and didn't get it until August or something, because they were on strike. It sat on a trailer for months. but it was well worth the wait. There were only two of us around my area that had one and I bought mine to rule the streets and it did. Everywhere I went people wanted me to roast the tires or they commented "there's the SS". Those were the cars to have back then.

Nice race, I was really going for the fourth gen. The only thing that semi ruined the race for me was the driver of the 10 Camaro. The first minute of the video was nothing but him making a string of excuses. " I don't race" "He race all the time I don't race" "Hes a weekend racer, I don't race worth s***" "That car is way lighter" "He got Long Tube headers". It got to the point she had to shut him up by saying "We'll see" Because she got tired of hearing the excuses. Nice race though, big ups to the 4th gen.

When I stated about the older Camaro it was mainly how the guy/his woman was going on how they beat the older Camaro. Course i don't know full story of other guy running his mouth, but for a mostly stock Camaro to keep with a Camaro 11 years newer should say something.

Zabuza Momochi is this the LT-1 OR LS-1? I WAS UNDER THE IMPRESSION THEY RAN 350. OF COARSE MANY TIMES THE ACTUAL NUMBERS WERE DOWNGRADED TO LOWER INSURENCE RATES. ANYWAYS I WAS MAKING A GENERAL STATEMENT 25 HP ISNT ENOUGH DIFFERENCE WHEN OVER 300 HP TO MAKE MUCH DIFFERENCE

If you wanna ruin your 4l60-e maybe. Those transmissions aren't built to do that stock, and the shift points stock will be faster than going through them manually. You can't rev out a stock ls1 much past where the automatic shift points are without any supporting mods
Luckys Wheelz N Dealz on your shift column there should be an M all the way back and then you can access the paddle shifts on the steering wheel, turn stabilatrak on and smoke fools
I owned a 1999 Camaro SS that I bought new and it was a sad day when I sold it a few years later. Took a new job with a long commute and needed something more practical with better gas mileage. That was ages ago. I like newer Camaros a lot and almost bought a 2017 Camaro SS convertible with low miles. But I ended up with a Coyote Mustang GT and put a Borla S-Type catback exhaust, cold air intake, and Lund Racing custom tune on it. Was considering a used Challenger R/T Scat Pack or SRT 392 but could not find one that was to my liking.
I have an 02 pushing 856 rwhp Im pretty sure ill be gone on that 2010 ss.

Nice races! I always wanted to race a 5th gen against my 98 z28. Comparing weight and power on both cars this about what i expected the outcome to be. Ls3 engines are great just look at what kinda times a stock 08 corvette is capable of.
Based on the thumbnail I was thinking/hoping this was going to be a review video, comparison breakdown and such. Anyways kool video, nicely done by your passenger. If you and the other guy live in the same neighborhood you might aswell be acquaintances, no reason for Camaro owners to shit talk eachother, other than just joking some.
I have a 99 SS, 4spd, soft top, orange with black strips, extra trim along the bottom of the body. It's fun. Would be nice if it had a 5spd auto, the only thing that holds it back in 4th is it revs out. Another gear with the right gearing would send it beyond 160mph without reving it to nearly 6,000rpm hah.
My best time at the track is 13.33sec at 105mph and 13.39sec at 108mph. Would be fun trying a mile long track, I like the hiway, Camaro's handle great.

Haha 99 SS come with about 315hp, 335hp if it cam from SLP. Not sure of his mods other than long tubes and sounded like cutouts. Sad to say that if he is keeping up like that your mods may need some work! Especially if you started with 425hp + a tune.
Its the weight difference. The 99 with long tubes is prolly somewhere around 330-340rwhp if its an auto. The Ls3 with his mods might make like 370 or so but its also a few hundred pounds heavier.

A six speed manual would of taken in it in the 99. Plus if it was an 2001 or 2002 it would be walked him easy. 4th gens weigh around 3600 pounds. 5th gens are 4300. Ls1 2.0 were beasts!!

I dont research cars that I own. Please tell me what forums your going to and reading your info.Just because you think the manual traps higher then the auto...you think thats a win at the track? What about reaction time and cutting a good 60 ft...1.7 or better. Ive raced cars that out trap me by 6 or 7 mph hour but edge me out by a bumper up top. Or the guy that trapped 117 mph and lost to a car with a slower tap speed. Google wont put you in the drivers seat staging on the line now will it?
