@@mylifefornickI can understand that partially, because humans are fascinated by the strength and speed of predators since the stoneage. So the TV does what gives them the views. Where it becomes problematic is when the sharks are just depicted as mindless killers instead of explaining how the encounter could have happened and how to avoid something like this in the future.

In early November, I was swimming with a friend about 300 meters offshore at Del Mar, California. A young white shark bumped my friend and then bit her in the thigh. The bite was not life threatening, but the puncture wounds were deep (up to 4 cm) and a couple were quite close to her femoral artery - it could have easily been much worse. I appreciate your excellent videos; I had watched them before this encounter, and I continue to do so. By showing these videos you show the whole picture - sharks in their environment. Your videos help destigmatize the white shark from its image of simply one of viciousness and horror. This is good. These sharks are an important part of healthy oceans, and they need to be respected as such. With regard to your videos of young white sharks near humans in the water, these help dispel the myth that sharks will invariably attack, and again help put this shark in a more appropriate context. However, we need to be aware that white sharks don’t have to be in attack mode to be dangerous to humans in the water. We don’t know why we were apparently ambushed and my swim buddy was bitten, but it may not have been due to aggressive behavior. It could have been defensive behavior (perhaps we were just too close - the water was murky, so we didn’t see the shark until it made its presence known). Or it could have been curiosity: many animals, especially young animals, investigate their surroundings by using their mouth; even children do this, and yet they are equipped with sensitive hands. In some of your videos, as you have noted, it appears that a white shark might just have been checking something out (such as floating trash) - with a bite.
Thank you for your insight and thoughts. I hope that your friend is recovering well. I understand that these young great white sharks stay in specific areas that change from time to time. Maybe Malibu Artist could tell us where these aggregations are in California, so that we could swim elsewhere!
@@evagonzales5349 Thank you. There is a research group at Cal State Long Beach, studying white sharks. They have found that the area from Del Mar down to just south of Blacks beach is a current spot where there are around 120 young white sharks. So, most of us now swim further north or south of this area of coastline. We are happy to let them have this area, undisturbed by swimmers :)
300m offshore? 😳 It's incredible that your friend was able to swim back to shore after being bitten by a GW. I hope she is recovering well.🙏🏊 thanks for sharing the story.
This video showed up in my recommended, and I'm so glad it did. I absolutely love sharks. Your footage is so stunning and your voice is so nice to listen to. Keep up the great work!
This is, hands down, the best video of sharks I have seen this year. The footage is incredible. This shows their beauty and how serene and graceful they really are. Just to watch them playing. They're not the mindless killing machines that they have been made out to be. They can control how hard they bite. They just want us to leave their home and space. People need to respect them.
As a life-long lover of great white sharks, I so appreciate what you and others like Scott Fairchild in San Diego are doing to bring these incredible images to us. Thank you so much!
It's not so funny when they tear your mother limb from limb just metres away from you. No idea why people are happy to be in water with a super predator, sure 99% of the time they won't touch you, but you never know when they'll decide to go off and DESTROY your body
I’m deadly afraid of sharks, but I begin to understand the effect that Hollywood movies and unnuanced ‘rumors’ of sharks have had of effect on my fear. Seeing videos like this one helps me reframe my fear and understanding of sharks. Thank you - keep up the good work!!! ❤
It isn't unhealthy to be afraid of sharks. It is impossible to truly know if one will attack you. That being said, they are not movie monsters, they are just animals. They don't deserve to be killed. Thank you for being open minded :)
Your fear should NOT be reframed at all. If you are in close vicinity to a great white shark, immediately vacate the water. They deserve their respect.
Very beautiful footage, and I have a feeling those surfers and swimmers weren’t all that afraid of them since they know that Great Whites almost never attack people. It’s the Bull sharks you have to watch out for.
Tell that to Simon Nellist and the other GW attacks recently in which they completely ate the people or ate limbs. Go ahead and put your trust in them all you want.
Will calmly and serenly shred you to pieces like a meatgrinder only faster but calmly and serenly. Totally not dufus brain machine like minded apex predators.
Back here, once again, In 2024. Your footage is truly breathtaking. I’ve been a great white lover since i was a wee one. While all the other kids perused to youth section of the library, you could always find me in the mammal/fish section, educating myself on the most interesting topic of great whites (specifically). Thank you for your (modern) contribution ♥️
I was stationed on Pendleton until 2016. I’m back on the east coast now but I’ve been following your channel for years and it always brings me back. While I was still out there, I went cage-diving at Guadalupe to see the great whites. Mindblowing experience
I have to hand it to you. Videos like this really help people understand Great White Sharks. The work you are doing here is a beautiful thing. Thank you.
I love that you are showing sharks as beautiful, intelligent creatures and not as terrifying, mindless killers! Thank you. That was a wonderfully done and well narrated video! 👍👍
I said I wasn't going to cry ... well, I can't help it. They are so majestic and your videos capture what we would normally never see. Wishing you the happiest of New Years. Thank you for all you do.
The views that the inception of drones has allowed us is nothing short of absolutely incredible. And not just over the seas. It’s allowed us to see things like african painted dog hunt’s where usually we could only see parts of the hunts as they often cover great distances but with drones we can see the whole hunt from start to finish from the air. It’s amazing.
Sharks playing with the kelp is just like cats playing with a ball of yarn!! Fascinating! This video is awesome and shows so much of how sharks really are when they are not hunting. Two thumbs up 😊👍👍
I absolutely love sharks. I’ve had a strong fascination with them since I was a kid. That said, the footage of the swimmer swimming with the shark just years away from him gave me chills. It conjures up the Simon Nellist attack. While attacks are rare, they do happen. So willingly going in again after you told him the Great White was in there is just dumb to me. I’d hate for the shark to be curious about me and take a nibble, because their nibbles remove limbs or tear out flesh wide open with ease. I’ll gladly admire them from the shore. 😂
The butterfly and the shark!! It took my breath away. One of the most beautiful things I've ever seen in my life. I love your narrative. Thank you for this! 🙏
Absolutely loved your video. Can really feel the passion you have for these creatures, which really displays their beauty in the right light - not the conventional ways of today. Beautiful!
I’ve always been terrified of sharks. Still am. I guess more just open water than anything. But man there’s no denying that this was an incredible video. Seriously had me in tears at one point. Thank you for this. This was amazing.
Despite their reputation as carnivores, the bonnethead sharks were able to survive when in the experiment they were fed diets of seaweed growing on the ocean floor. The study, led by Samantha Leigh, a doctoral candidate at the University of California, Irvine, was based on research conducted ten years ago that examined the contents of the guts of these creatures. The study revealed the presence of large quantities of seaweed. In some small sharks, scientists found that more than 60% of the materials in their gear were plant-based. To determine whether the sharks were intentionally feeding on the plants or accidentally entered them, Leigh and her colleagues fed captive sharks 90% kelp diets for three weeks, with the final 10% squid.
You sir, are the Jacques Cousteau of great white sharks. I can only hope you continue your amazing work for years to come. Their uniqueness has always captivated me and continues to do so to this day. Thank you for sharing your incredible work and insight.
this just helps prove how uninterested in humans sharks are. this type of thing (close encounters by unaware humans) happens thousands of times a day across the world, and yet how many shark attacks occur?
@@pepedeltoro6647 yes, bears kill people too. so do mountain lions, and wolves. Hippos kill people too, and alligators. Did you know Zebras are one of the most deadly zoo animals? Elephants kill people too. But you know what kills more people than all of those combined? other humans. Heck even car accidents kill more people. But you take those chances every single day. You're more likely to die of a natural disaster than a shark. But teeth are scary, the idea of being food for something else is irrationally terrifying, i get it. But talking about the odds while taking far higher risks many times over every single day is not logical.
logical? odds? wild animals? natural disasters? I dont live in Africa or swim in the ocean..so. my odds are logistically 0% of anytime of attack. i also dont live near any natural disaster areas, so thats another 0%..I'm not the only 1 either, so, statically speaking, none of that makes 0sense. before, I replied I tried looked up dying by a natural disaster to dying by a shark attack.. that is a ridiculous comparison 😂, there's nothing comparing the 2. I won't even get into the details of that 😂 it makes 0sense.
This video just brought back a small shred of hope for me, that not all humans have turned away or stopped caring about the beauty and importance of all natural things, even the predators people usually fear. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for caring about these beautiful magnificent creatures! I may be crying now but it's a good cry, one of hope for the natural world 🖤💗🥹

This is beautiful. We are so lucky to live in this earth and share our so short lifespan on this existence surrounded by such magnificient creatures and landscapes
So beautiful. My father taught me to appreciate all creatures, including predators…unusual in the 50s and 60s where sharks are concerned. When he fished he always had a very long rope for the fish he caught. He told me that he did it for his safety and to prevent a shark hunt, which on the Gulf Coast always meant a frenzy of shark killing.
Thank you, MalibuArtist for the beautiful footage! I appreciated the narration and facts I've learned from watching your channel! Drones certainly have changed how we see things! Happy New Year and thanks again!

I spent a lot of time on Lanzarote (Canary Islands). I'm not a diving guy, but had the pleasure to meet with sraks two times. Once on Fuerteventure - went to the beach, but it was closed due to smaller sharks (probably young blue sharks) coming to the shore. I took a few pictures, they were about 100-120 cm long and 3-4 meters away from me. The second time was even more fascinating as it was the first time a rented a smaller boat to sail the waters alone. Got a tip about a place where dolphins are spotted fairly often but instead of dolphins I managed to see a whale shark near the surface. After that I visited a fish farm where I spotted a larger shark - either a great white or a tiger, the size would fit them booth but it seemed it had a few faint stripes. Fun fact: a friend of mine bought her first villa there in the 90s and spent a feew weeks or months a year there. She swam everywhere, got in the water everywhere. Never knew that there are sharks near the islands, she was terrified when I told her about the closed beach :D
Reminds me of that scene in Hunt for Red October. "I know Ramious. Hes a legend in the submarine community. I met him once at a consulate dinner once. Have ever met him general?"

This footage is just as the author narrates, "Nature as it is", observed from a distance. The narrator does not impose his opinion and allows us to try and understand more about these magnificent creatures.
THIS is what should be playing during shark week. Beautiful footage mate, looking forward to seeing more
I bet your one of this putrid hippy greenies who who rather a human die to save a putrid shark
@@JulioAragao-nr5esif u call this boring u have to be stupid 😅
Right? They focus so much on shark attacks.
So true!!!
This might be the most beautiful content about sharks that I've ever seen. It actually made me cry. Thank you for sharing it with the world.
I'd never swim in the ocean and I'd be scared to hell knowing they could swim under me BUT I still respect them and recognise the importance of these beautiful creatures in the circle of life.
Beautiful footage and beautiful words!🩷
I really hope there is a trend to peaceful coexistence with sharks. Very inspiring and positive. Much appreciated!

Great perspective - thanks for posting.
Bro just needed a Lil taste test, just a nibble.
Also, if you don't kind me asking, how big was the shark?
300m offshore? 😳 It's incredible that your friend was able to swim back to shore after being bitten by a GW. I hope she is recovering well.🙏🏊 thanks for sharing the story.
Every now and again something really special is recommended to me on here. Thanks for providing such a beautiful portrait of great whites.
This video showed up in my recommended, and I'm so glad it did. I absolutely love sharks. Your footage is so stunning and your voice is so nice to listen to. Keep up the great work!

@@TheMalibuArtist Thank you.. Stunning footage.
Simply stunning footage. Thanks for everything you’ve shared with us all this year. Looking forward to more in 2023😊
First of all, the footage is absolutely amazing. Secondly, how the hell are people so calm around these apex predators?!
Absolutely beautiful but still very dangerous!
Simply, most of them don’t realise a shark is near
Sharks usually don't attack people.
@@BlameNate Usually is good enough reason for me not to swim with one.
@@SephirotHeReyeah he actually was. There are roughly 5 deaths per year caused by sharks, so it really is an exception
No idea why people are happy to be in water with a super predator, sure 99% of the time they won't touch you, but you never know when they'll decide to go off and DESTROY your body
until one bite you
I’m deadly afraid of sharks, but I begin to understand the effect that Hollywood movies and unnuanced ‘rumors’ of sharks have had of effect on my fear.
Thank you for being open minded :)
ya jaws did a number on sharks but bull and tiger sharks are aggressive i wouldn't swim anywhere near them
@@auston781Oh best believe I have no intentions of going near either 😂
Your fear should NOT be reframed at all. If you are in close vicinity to a great white shark, immediately vacate the water. They deserve their respect.
Very beautiful footage, and I have a feeling those surfers and swimmers weren’t all that afraid of them since they know that Great Whites almost never attack people. It’s the Bull sharks you have to watch out for.
And the tiger sharks 😳
Greet wihte shark if he hangry he can eat the human
Tell that to Simon Nellist and the other GW attacks recently in which they completely ate the people or ate limbs. Go ahead and put your trust in them all you want.
Stop spreading false information great white sharks do kill people often enough don’t test your luck
@@Steve24_7 they were just really hungry man, usually it never happens
I have loved and respected sharks ever since I was a child, so for about 30 years now! Thank you for sharing this footage.
So beautiful and majestic. Not hardly the monster predator some make them out to be. They are actually so calm and serene to watch. Gorgeous footage
Dude, 3 people died in an Egypt in just 1 week due to shark attack. Not monsters but definitely carnivorous predators.
Its okay to be afraid. Respect them as one of natures feared killers. Tell them to all the sea lions thats hunted by them that are calm 🤣
Definitely a predator
Will calmly and serenly shred you to pieces like a meatgrinder only faster but calmly and serenly. Totally not dufus brain machine like minded apex predators.
love this type of footage. Where we get to observe by not disturbing them at all. Exactly how it should be! Beautiful

Thanks a ton for watching and for your support!
How long is the boat ride?
I have to hand it to you. Videos like this really help people understand Great White Sharks. The work you are doing here is a beautiful thing. Thank you.
I'm not going to lie, after seeing this, I don't think ill ever be going in the ocean again.
Lots of people said the same in 1975 after watching JAWS 😂
I felt the same way after seeing Jaws. I will not go past my stomach at the beach 😅.
I barely got in the bathtub after seeing Jaws as a little girl 😂
I love that you are showing sharks as beautiful, intelligent creatures and not as terrifying, mindless killers!

Beautiful footage. Many people underestimate the intelligence of sharks, but in reality, they are much smarter than we often perceive them to be.
Extraordinary work, really beautiful. I've no idea how you've made me truly appreciate sharks, but you have
This is the most wonderful footage I've seen in quite a while - I'll admit, I cried.
Two thumbs up 😊👍👍
Absolutely beautiful these are very gentle and loving creatures who pose very little harm to humans in reality
Are you high???????
Then you woke up
I absolutely love sharks.
Your videos are what finally convinced my husband that I wasn't crazy for loving sharks.
Same here, open water is scary and sharks sort of terrify me. But they are beautiful creatures worthy of respect.
You play at your own risk as animals are unpredictable. They could be sick or hungry and act out of the ordinary.
I wasn’t really until I watched that guy get eaten in Egypt last week. Going to be a while before I get into the ocean again
@@Whocares1987 yea being at the mercy of the shark, it decides whether it wants to attack you or not
Hi. Have you ever seen ocean Ramsey? Check her out, she swims with sharks on a very regular basis. It's amazing.

@@SoloRenegade I saw a video of a man being eaten alive by a white shark recently. It literally ate and killed him. So i won't take any chances xD
I won't even get into the details of that 😂
it makes 0sense.
This video just brought back a small shred of hope for me, that not all humans have turned away or stopped caring about the beauty and importance of all natural things, even the predators people usually fear.
Thank you for showing us the beautiful and harmless side of sharks we never knew 🙏

@@TheMalibuArtist have you tried viewing further up the coast? like the big sur area or anywhere between San Simeon and Monterey?
