I believe they pay for the tuition but you will have to provide service, I am not entirely sure as I want to go into the Canadian Air Force. But it is great to see another woman who wants to go into this career.

What he is saying is absolutely true. I'm a tech school Instructor Avionics (right now). There is no greater sense of accomplishment then getting into these multi-million dollar jets and getting them to function again. If your in my career field you will spend time on the flight line as well as running every system the pilot does making sure that it works. Believe me it is nothing short of awesome.... PPE is Personal Protective Equipment. It covers more than just aprons, goggles and gloves. PPE can also cover Body Armor (Flak Vests) Chemical Ensemble, Helmet, Etc. I worked as a Maintenance Crewchief for 20 years. I loved my job and miss it to this day. Most of what you say is true but it is from a backshop point of view. Those of us who worked on the flightline spent most of our time out there.

jumper F22, If you are asking me personally... I am flightline avionics which translates to working avionics in the real world (for an airport or an individual airline) and is supposedly high-paying. I plan on doing a full twenty and, if I can help it, do something not-plane-related after I retire from the USAF.
I have being a reservist for 11 years in maintenance in E&E and love it. There are always regular office place issues and politics, but as a reservist you don't really don't have to worry about office politics. You get to learn how things works on aircraft and what it takes for an aircraft to stay up in the air and running.
@@danieldiazgranados468 Keep studying TO's and, at the very least, know where to find everything. Put yourself out there and learn everything you can about your airframe. Sometimes people will look to you as a subject matter expert since E&E has its hands in a lot of different systems. Some people think if it has a wire running through it, punt the job to E&E: "everything else"

Jake, I did a lot of research on loadmaster, it seems like it would be a really sweet gig. In the end the only reason I didn't list it as a preference is because I'm married and I don't wanna be away from my wife for potential 8 days at a time, I am now shipping out in May to do fire protection

+Jake Pellicer Yeah loadmasters load up C-130s, C-5s, C-17s, etc. And they fly with the aircraft to wherever the destination is. Then they unload or airdrop the cargo in the area. I wanted to be a loadmaster, it was my #1 job!

ChristoRJ Johnson it's been going good. I'm just pretty much in processing at my first base and I'm close to home. 7 hours away. In my honest opinion the only thing I hate about the maintainer life is 99% of staff sergeants are just very self centered and are more quick to tell you off rather than helping when you have a question about something .i see a lot of selfishness and no team work in my shop and no one is cool with each other

My name is Anna Tollison. 25 yro female with a strong passion for aircraft. I have adored them since I was a kid. I actually live close to an AF base. Before the pandemic, my grandparents and I would go and watch the Twin Prop Choppers (I beg of your forgiveness, I do not know their proper names.) One day, we were riding through, and we saw the strangest things(at least to us.) The twin prop was rising and falling kinda like suspended by a guide wire. It seemed as if the pilot was not sure if they wanted to take off, or if they wanted to land. However, we didn't notice just how close we were to their National Guard gates, and the guards closed their gates. It was amazing to watch the Twin Prop Chopper hover. I never got to see any of their planes take flight, but I have seen them off in the distance near a runway, and some in their hangers with the doors raised.The college I attend has a school at the base, and I do hope to attend their ACM program very soon(next semester, if things go well.) Just being up close to something that is so large, yet is somehow able to fly, fascinates me. I believe it would be a treat just to touch one of these beasts, but to be able to say " I had even just the smallest part in helping it take flight.....That sounds like a dream!" I have a saying :" I am a girl who love planes, cranes and trains(Choppers too haha.) You are so lucky to have such a wonderful job!

+Sam Smith I grew up working on my own bikes as a kid, then cars when I got old enough to drive (I was a hot rodder and owned a sweet '69 L78 Camaro in HS). After scoring in the 90s on the ASVAB, I got a guaranteed slot in 431x2 school. After graduation and six months of OJT to upgrade to a five level, I was an assistant then a 7-level primary crew chief on C-141s. For my second hitch, I PCS'd on a BOP to a SAC wing as a shift NCOIC of landing gear and flight control specialists on B-52s and KC-135s. I finished my second tour as a technical instructor (TTI) teaching KC-135 follow-on courses. After my second hitch I elected to rejoin the civilian world, but I very much enjoyed my AF experiences and would do it all over again. So yeah, if you have an aptitude for mechanics and can do well on the ASVAB, the AF will give you the chance to do things no one else will.

But from what I've seen, it's not as glamorous as they can make it sound. They always look kinda sad lol. If anyone here is a crew chief, feel free to leave your experiences

I was an AD (aviation machinist mate) in the Navy. I’m looking into getting into the Air Force reserves as a maintainer. But I don’t know which AFSC to do. I hear this hydraulics afsc (2A6X5) is pretty good. Any other suggestions?
Let me see if I heard you right, they now have the T.O's on computers, for years I had to lug heavy a** T.O.s out to the flight line, docks, etc. and then when I became NCOIC I had to maintain them suckers, what will they think of next. I went in in 1970, and retired in 2002, things have really changed.

What are deployments like as a maintainer? See any combat? Go on patrols? Or are you just on the flight line on base? Could you volunteer to go on patrols? Etc.

I might be going in as a tactical aircraft mechanic. what is life like for those guys? how is the work does it suck? do they work a lot of days and hours?
Tactical aircraft is more involved and you’ll easily be working 8-12 hour shifts. But you get to work on fighter jets and A10s and cool shit like that. And you’ll get dirty, so get used to showering, doing laundry, and smelling like jet fuel all the time. But it’s rewarding being able to fix a multi-million dollar air craft so it flies just like new. Plus you’ll get to work outside, so just hope the winters aren’t too harsh when they roll around.
+atasha hoffman It can be demanding, especially with changing schedules. But it's definitely possible. I'm currently pursuing a pilot's license, my Associates degree, and soon I'll be getting my A&P certification (which is more school). It's not impossible, you just have to stay focused and keep your head on your shoulders

I'd expect there to be low maintenance but a lot of learning and unfamiliar tasks because of the newness of the jet.. But there shouldn't be anything too difficult

No he's not E&E. No don't choose anything except for your AFSC. There are shreds within some AFSC's (like engine troops get certain engines, certain crew chiefs get certain aircraft.) You don't have choices in this.
Can you make a video about jobs new airmen will be able to work right out of bmt? Ive been told some medical jobs you have to be an officer in the Air Force but I'm putting off joining because I can't choose what jobs I'd be more interested in please and thank you .
You can’t have any immediate debts or court hearings pending while trying to join any branch of the military. Student loans are different, and the military offers ways of paying those off actually. At least the Air Force does. Just pay your tickets and go to your court hearings and you’ll be all set.

Crew Chiefs are janitors and they change oil and take tire pressure. Then they think they're the most trained maintainer in the world and claim that they are trained on all parts of a jet but don't actually know anything important. Basically, crew chiefs are pieces of shit and might as well work at jiffy lube changing oil, while claiming they are master techs. Lmfao. Fuck crew chiefs. IF you're a crew chief, don't be like the other 90% of them. They talk shit like they're untouchable. When in reality, all they do is marshal shit, service oil and tires, and sometimes fuck with some hydraulic shit.
Not specifically aircraft egress systems. The only way to market it in the civilian sector would to basically contract with a company that works on military aircraft. Now if you got mechanical maintenance or something, then you could easily get qualified to work in an airport for maintenance. The Air Force has the most jobs that can be marketed outside of the military. Just use it as a stepping stone for whatever you want to do. And make sure you have a backup plan just in case. Because the careers and job sectors change constantly. But we’re always going to need cops, doctors, and mechanics.

F15E crew chief here and yeaaaaa I love my egress inspections but 95% of my 11 career has been out in the cold in all elements. Not true that most of the MX gets done in the backshop for fighters at least. We always out there making AIRPOWER. Shoot we barley in the hangar unless backshop request it, their to use to the climate control backshop i.e. egress, hyd, fab..

Do you work 7 days a week often? I considered being a maintainer (prefer to work on RPA) but i dont want it to kill me.

+Sam Smith I grew up working on my own bikes as a kid, then cars when I got old enough to drive (I was a hot rodder and owned a sweet '69 L78 Camaro in HS). After scoring in the 90s on the ASVAB, I got a guaranteed slot in 431x2 school. After graduation and six months of OJT to upgrade to a five level, I was an assistant then a 7-level primary crew chief on C-141s. For my second hitch, I PCS'd on a BOP to a SAC wing as a shift NCOIC of landing gear and flight control specialists on B-52s and KC-135s. I finished my second tour as a technical instructor (TTI) teaching KC-135 follow-on courses. After my second hitch I elected to rejoin the civilian world, but I very much enjoyed my AF experiences and would do it all over again. So yeah, if you have an aptitude for mechanics and can do well on the ASVAB, the AF will give you the chance to do things no one else will.

I was an AD (aviation machinist mate) in the Navy. I’m looking into getting into the Air Force reserves as a maintainer. But I don’t know which AFSC to do. I hear this hydraulics afsc (2A6X5) is pretty good. Any other suggestions?

How hard is it to balance college while being a maintainer?
Let me see if I heard you right, they now have the T.O's on computers, for years I had to lug heavy a** T.O.s out to the flight line, docks, etc. and then when I became NCOIC I had to maintain them suckers, what will they think of next. I went in in 1970, and retired in 2002, things have really changed.
They're on iPads, now. The heavy book's batteries never died, though...

I might be going in as a tactical aircraft mechanic. what is life like for those guys? how is the work does it suck? do they work a lot of days and hours?
Tactical aircraft is more involved and you’ll easily be working 8-12 hour shifts. But you get to work on fighter jets and A10s and cool shit like that. And you’ll get dirty, so get used to showering, doing laundry, and smelling like jet fuel all the time. But it’s rewarding being able to fix a multi-million dollar air craft so it flies just like new. Plus you’ll get to work outside, so just hope the winters aren’t too harsh when they roll around.

+atasha hoffman It can be demanding, especially with changing schedules. But it's definitely possible. I'm currently pursuing a pilot's license, my Associates degree, and soon I'll be getting my A&P certification (which is more school). It's not impossible, you just have to stay focused and keep your head on your shoulders

hi I was looking at careers in the airforce and they have something listed as aircraft environmental and electrical systems. Is this your job? and if so how do you choose what discipline you specialize in, like egress or parachute packing?
No he's not E&E. No don't choose anything except for your AFSC. There are shreds within some AFSC's (like engine troops get certain engines, certain crew chiefs get certain aircraft.) You don't have choices in this.

You can’t have any immediate debts or court hearings pending while trying to join any branch of the military.
Student loans are different, and the military offers ways of paying those off actually. At least the Air Force does. Just pay your tickets and go to your court hearings and you’ll be all set.

+IM Æ A crew chief IS a maintainer who is generally responsible for an individual aircraft, and is generally trained on all parts of the aircraft. They also coordinate with pilots and facilitate their aircraft departing/arriving
Crew Chiefs are janitors and they change oil and take tire pressure. Then they think they're the most trained maintainer in the world and claim that they are trained on all parts of a jet but don't actually know anything important. Basically, crew chiefs are pieces of shit and might as well work at jiffy lube changing oil, while claiming they are master techs. Lmfao. Fuck crew chiefs. IF you're a crew chief, don't be like the other 90% of them. They talk shit like they're untouchable. When in reality, all they do is marshal shit, service oil and tires, and sometimes fuck with some hydraulic shit.

Not specifically aircraft egress systems. The only way to market it in the civilian sector would to basically contract with a company that works on military aircraft.
Now if you got mechanical maintenance or something, then you could easily get qualified to work in an airport for maintenance. The Air Force has the most jobs that can be marketed outside of the military. Just use it as a stepping stone for whatever you want to do.
And make sure you have a backup plan just in case. Because the careers and job sectors change constantly. But we’re always going to need cops, doctors, and mechanics.

F15E crew chief here and yeaaaaa I love my egress inspections but 95% of my 11 career has been out in the cold in all elements. Not true that most of the MX gets done in the backshop for fighters at least. We always out there making AIRPOWER. Shoot we barley in the hangar unless backshop request it, their to use to the climate control backshop i.e. egress, hyd, fab..
