Even three years later this is one of the most timeless videos in the "canon" of Air Force How To Videos. Thank you for helping me and countless others join the Air Force and I hope you are well, Sir!
Seriously how long were you in DEP? I went open mechanical/ open electrical and just got back from meps maybe 2 weeks ago. Wondering how long I might be waiting.
It's much easier in the Air National Guard. If they have a job open and you qualify for it, you're good to go if you want it. I did pick Fire Protection (funny how you mentioned it). Can't wait for my BMT and Tech school next summer!
Wait, so you fill out your dream sheet right after you take the ASVAB? Because when I got my results, the liaison at MEPS opened the envelope, explained it to me then told me I could leave. It's been like 3wks and no one has contacted me abt anything regarding jobs. And I scored very well. 😐
What if I literally only want 2-3 jobs but they FORCE me to put the required number? In that case, can i DECLINE a job opening that i was forced to put down and still wait for my top 3?
I have a friend that selected filling jet engine gas tanks. He did mention at MEPS when he enlisted about being informed about a limited amount of MOS. My friend didn't mention the options you had explained here. It wasn't his 1st choice but was eager to enlist. My friend lasted 1-1/2 years in the Air Force and left due to inability to adjust. My friend mentioned that the novelty of his MOS became old very quickly. Plus he had conflicts with his supervisor at the time. In addition to that, he missed civilian life as well. It all seemed very suprising to me because when he had informed me about being in the service over the phone, it was something that he enjoyed very much. That was July 1995 when he enlisted in the Air Force. My friend was at one time considering being in the Air Force for 20 years but unfortunately didn't materialize. Maybe if he waited for an unspecified amount of time he could have had a MOS of his top preference. Air Force is a small branch and that is my best guess that MOS selection is limited.
Are general aptitude jobs available often? The only reason I want to go into the Military is to go into Food Services, I need it for the career experience as well as to qualify to go into ACE at the Culinary Institute of America when I get out. Is there anyway I could be guaranteed Services?
Got an 81 on the ASVAB. I got in DEP, and 1 week later I picked my job - 1a0x1 In Flight Refueling - even though it wasn't on my dream sheet I decided to pick it because it seems very interesting. Shipping out Nov. 27th!
I have seen videos from other RUclips channels stating that you can say no to a job even if it's on your dream sheet if you want to hold out for something specific. I just want to make sure because you stated that it's obligatory to take it if it's on your list. If you could just clarify that for us I would appreciate it. Thanks in advance.
@TansFilms nope, a lot of people (including wildblue yonder) think that but it's not true. U just need to be assertive with your recruiter. Yes u can decline a job on your list that becomes available first only to wait for another that's on your list. But u will have to start the whole process over if u wait 12 months. I have been searching and searching and I have found 3 people who were able to do this. Just be assertive and say I will wait. I want to be a mental health tech. I will wait a year too :) if I'm signing my life away, I'm gonna make sure I get what I want
@TansFilms actually I asked s youtuber that was in the DEP, And another youtuber answered this question for someone else and a comment on his video saying g he had gone threw it.
@@_ileaj_ at meps after doing my medicals and taking my asvab, I put down 1. Paralegal, 2. Crew chief(I think).. 3. Security Forces. And score 65 on asvab. WildBlueYonder, great video as usual. I have a question: I'm currently in DEP right now with an ASVAB of 99, passed all my physical except the depth field, thus preventing me from applying for the RPA Sensor Operator or Geophysical/imagery intelligence position. My recruiter allowed me to put down 6 different jobs on my dream sheet instead of 10, as I really don't want any other jobs apart from the 6 I put down. However, at the end of my dream sheet, my recruiter also put down an open general code for the General aptitude, so that "I have a better chance of getting one of those 6 jobs." Was my recruiter being honest to me, or was he just trying to get me shipped out as soon as he could? Thanks for your time. You and BullyJuice are my favorite two resources for USAF related questions.
Thank you sir!I'm currently waiting on a medical waiver bc i had a job injury right before MEPS. at the moment I'm just waiting to choose my job... got a decent score on the ASVAB!

Hey! So I ship out next month, and I get that we really choose what jobs we want when we get to BMT? but when my recruiter said a job opened up, he said what opened up was "Admin Aptitude Area" that means when I get to basic id be getting something in admin for sure right?
Or another option, like my recruiter did. The job drop came, he offered me the job, it wasn't a job I had interest in so he only gave me one option, I either take the job or I get out of DEP, no other choice.
A few decades ago, you would pick your job with your recruiter and it was guaranteed. But that was not long after it became a all volunteer force and they needed folks.
Can you make a video about ideas on getting deployed? Like on how they are going to select people when the time comes. Btw I'm really looking forward to join the airforce. Your videos helps me a lot, keep it up!
I recently inquired about joining the USAF and I was told that I won’t know my job or what’s available until I get to BMT and will have to pick from what’s available from my Asvab scores..Is this new

Hey Wildblueyonder what are your thiughts on security forces. I signed a contract for it and a lot of people have different opinions on it. Just curious of your opinion.
My question is, If you qualify for the airforce but your admin score is higher than all the other line scores but there's no jobs available at the moment . Is it possible you can still process and get a job once you are in training?
*GREAT VIDEO* my recruiter is telling me that if I list “electrical aptitude area” that I will be able to select any 3 jobs that I qualify for and then from there I’m guaranteed 1 of those 3.... *is this correct* or am I setting myself up for a random job???
One question, the 10 jobs that you list on your dream sheet do they have to be under the same aptitude area or can you select different jobs from different aptitude areas?
Is it true that medical is very hard to get into?? I have four ideas but my recruiter said if I don't leave in a few weeks I probably won't get any medical careers I want when I want to leave next year. PLEASE REPLY THANK YOUUU
**i meant Four ideas In the Medical field (nurse, physician, preventative medicine, and aerospace medical service btw I scored a 70 on my Asvab and listed the general aptitude on my jobs list)

Um... If they call you up with a job on your dream sheet you DO NOT have to take it right away. You have the option of saying no which means that you will have to wait until something else on your list pops up.
Hey, quick non-airforce related question What is the flag you have hanging? Like where is it from? And what is the symbol on the necklace you're wearing? Love your videos man, you're the best airforce blogger keep it up edit: just did some quick researching and found that it's the flag of the State of Maryland, still interested in the symbol on your necklace
I haven't gone to MEPs yet.. they keep canceling and rescheduling my appointment.. but I only have 5 jobs that I am interested in.. can I put down just 5 jobs at MEPs??
I just spoke to my recruiter- I chose 9 careers OR a mechanical aptitude, my recruiter told me today that none of these jobs was available now, so I am going to BMT open aptitude and I should narrow my choices down to three careers and that I will get one of these jobs for sure. My question is: how likely am I to get one of these nine jobs previously listed if I am going in open aptitude?
Adrian Montgomery it really seems like a crapshoot. You can ask your recruiter how many jobs are available per year, how many they fill, and they will break it down to how many jobs per month or per squadron they have.
great detailed video bc I'm totally clueless and idk anyone for the million questions I have! I'm aiming towards the law field,I want to eventually become a lawyer in the Air Force. (Idk the proper term. lol) is that in demand anyone or a good choice?
Quick question. I did my asvab and medical to join the navy. But now i want to join the air force so I need to get my medical record from the navy to give the air force recruiter. How do I get my medical record?
Do you have to circle or write down your 10 dream jobs in the military? Can someone with ADHD be a military police officer or get military police officer training and do another career in the military like real estate
So what if you get a call and it’s your dream job but not your dream location ? Do you wait for another opportunity or you go where they tell you to go ?
So basically my question is, you rank your jobs on your dream sheet and obviously you want one more than others say your top five but number ten comes up. You are then obligated to go even if you really didn't want number ten, right?
Lii K I was told I had to list 9 jobs. I also had to list an aptitude. If one of those 9 jobs came up, or one was offered to me that wasn't what I listed, but was in the aptitude subject I picked, I had to either take the job, or they would write I refused to take the job on my file and would be less likely to give me a job or speak with me in the future.
of course there is that option, but i'm worried that they'll find my youth medical records while they're looking at my history when applying for a security clearance.
Prince Montanaa You have to contract as an officer. Enlisted can’t fly. You also need like perfect depth perception and can’t be colorblind. And there’s a whole other process for officers with more academics and a slightly harder physical. I believe officers have to go to the Air Force Academy when they are contracted.
I don't understand. While meeting with my recruiter for the first time, I was ready to tell him about my choices of jobs and careers I would like to pursue, and he stopped me from the beginning and told me that I don't get to chose. I basically tell him what I want and don't want, and my chances are slightly higher to get those jobs. I even had a whole list to show him that I wanted to put into my Dream Sheet, but didn't want to look at them. Please someone, let me know if he is telling me accurate information or is there anything I should know ? I was thinking about changing recruiters due to he barley gives me information and lacks any motivation and, I have got all my info from research online and none from him. I do want a better ASVAB score, so I do plan on delaying myself in the process so I can focus on studying and getting a better score, to get the job I want.
You have to score a minimum 72 on the General part of the ASVAB and score a 110 on the DLAB test. I take the DLAB next week. I'm looking to do Airborne Linguistics. Tech school is much longer than other jobs, but you are learning a language and hopefully have an interest in that. The only downside is base choices are limited. Both the ground and airborne linguist jobs are in high demand, so if you qualify it most likely will be the job you get if you want it.
How do you add your asvab score when taking the practice test to get the AFQT and to know what jobs you would qualify for? Military.com gives you a percentage rating on how will did for the sub category. Thanks in advance.
Camryn Daggs, Do I add the number of correct answer or do I add the overall percentage when using the website you provided exam like 95% I would enter 95 in the calculator box or do I count how many I got correct like 30 questions right so I would add 30 in the calculator Box. Thanks in advance.

great detailed video bc I'm totally clueless and idk anyone for the million questions I have!
How do I get my medical record?
the job that i want to do is aircraft mechanic
Wait so if it’s on my top 8 jobs and they tell me about it, I have to take it no matter what?
You've probably figured it out already, but for anyone else reading this. Yes, you need to take a job off of your dream sheet.
Do you have to circle or write down your 10 dream jobs in the military? Can someone with ADHD be a military police officer or get military police officer training and do another career in the military like real estate
You dont have to take the ASVAB at MEPS if you took the Picat correct?!
Picat and asvab are 2 different testa
So if u took the ASVAB before hand do u still take it a MEPS
Not sure if you got this answered. As long as you took the as an within 2 years if going to MEPS, you don't retake it
So...... can you just pick a mos and get it like the army and navy?
I want to do aerial photography i take my ASVAB tomorrow:)
How many jobs do you have to put on your dream sheet?
So what if you get a call and it’s your dream job but not your dream location ? Do you wait for another opportunity or you go where they tell you to go ?
YazzyJ15 you will go where the military needs you especially for your first duty station
So you mines well just go can't have your cake and eat it to
So basically my question is, you rank your jobs on your dream sheet and obviously you want one more than others say your top five but number ten comes up. You are then obligated to go even if you really didn't want number ten, right?
Lii K pretty much
Lii K I was told I had to list 9 jobs. I also had to list an aptitude. If one of those 9 jobs came up, or one was offered to me that wasn't what I listed, but was in the aptitude subject I picked, I had to either take the job, or they would write I refused to take the job on my file and would be less likely to give me a job or speak with me in the future.
I'm leaving on open electronics. Leaving in less than 2 weeks!
How hard would it be to be a fighter pilot
wait did you say you have adhd? it didn't disqualify you? or did you get a waiver?
of course there is that option, but i'm worried that they'll find my youth medical records while they're looking at my history when applying for a security clearance.

They won't find out unless you give them permission or reason to
if I'm in the dep and they offer me a job that was on my list can I wait for another job to open up or do I have to take that one
He literally says the answer to that in the video pay close attention.
Is it hard to get the mental health service job?
So why do uoubhave to take the asvab again if you already took it before you signed up
You don't have to as long as its within 2 years
What if you already taken the ASVAB before going to MEPS?
Did you get this answered?
do I have to take the asvab two times??
I don't know if I misheard or what, but my recruiter told me that they're not utilizing DEP anymore. Don't know if that's true or not.
that's not true at all
+Matthew Blancett Yeah, must've misunderstood then.
I heard if you talk to your recruiter you can actually have the job you want locked in is this true?
not anymore
Hey WildBlueYonder I was wondering if you could do a video about prior service going into the Air force
Is this before or after bmt?
How do you get to fly the jets? Do you have to take another test ?
And yes, I am eager to join! I do want to do a little more research so I can make sure I am making a good decision.

You don't need to give them medical records
how do you get a job in linguistics... i wanna join the air force but i want that crypthologic linguistics gig
I was trying to find a current arirmen channel, i think it was laffayettes life idk could someone help..
What if you only have one job that you really want and don't want any others?
You still have to fill out the list completely
is there an officer career for every enlisted career
wolfie kiester I doubt it.
How do you add your asvab score when taking the practice test to get the AFQT and to know what jobs you would qualify for? Military.com gives you a percentage rating on how will did for the sub category. Thanks in advance.
The website I use is www.asvabscorecalculator.com/
Camryn Daggs Thanks for the info, I'll check it out.
Camryn Daggs, Do I add the number of correct answer or do I add the overall percentage when using the website you provided exam like 95% I would enter 95 in the calculator box or do I count how many I got correct like 30 questions right so I would add 30 in the calculator Box. Thanks in advance.
Outstanding video!
