Just used the video to clear out the weeds from the paving stones at the front of my house that have been driving me nuts for years. Looks amazing. Thanks for the video 👍🏼👍🏼
I’m using my Covid 19 time to extend and repoint the patio. Thanks for this Great short video. I love it when someone explains a skill in just a few mins. Well done.
Chris,Thanks for this video. After watching this you gave me enough confidense to dig out the terrible black and mouldy grout on an Indian sandstone patio and start from scratch ,thereby undoing the work from my installers. It took me 4 days to complete the job but it came out really well. The flexible bucket is a wonderful thing. Thanks
Thanks, that was the best vid I've seen with regards to repointing. A lot are complicated. I shall certainly be trying your mix and method on our patio.

This video gives me confidence to tackle this job. Only thing I will do differently is rake all the weeds and soil out before I make the mix, but only on a dry day.

Thanks for the instructive video. I know that it's not rocket science but, as an amateur at this game, this video was really helpful. Another of my summer tasks knocked off!
Thanks Chris .. just about to point a fair lot of paving around our house today, and this video has been really helpful .. thanks for spending the time making it for inexperienced DIYers such as myself :) And yes, loving life! Appreciated, Jonny.
My pleasure Jonny, it’s more of a challenge for most people this year but we must be grateful for what we have in life as things could be much worse! Happy pointing buddy 👍
Mate, i am just about start poiting my slabs and saw this video, awesome tips on how to get a top quality finish, thank you for taking the time to post this video.
Hey Chris, thanks for this video, I've spent the last 3 days chipping out the knackered mortar and re pointing using this video. I've just brushed the remnants away, I'm amazed at how good it looks. Cheers mate.
@@lauralaura2504 hi Laura, it's still perfect 👌. I suppose the best way to find out is to power wash the patio, which i need to do, but at this point it still looks awesome. We had a lot of rain in North Wales this past year, so i am really pleased with the job.
Thanks Chris . Very handy and straightforward explanation. I may even manage this tomorrow. Hope your keeping well and dodging the bullet! Take care and stay safe.
Hi Vikkie! Excellent I'm glad it worked for you. It looks like you, your Fiance, my wife and I have quite a few shared interests. We love getting stuck into things ourselves rather than paying others to do things for us. I also really fancy doing a camper conversion when I can find the time. Great work on your 2 channels! (We have a second one too 'Sailing Britaly'...) Cheers, Chris 😊👍
Thanks, I spotted! I subscribed to both of them earlier hahaha... we'd love a boat too lol. Well my slab video will be up on Sunday and have mentioned your video in case I don't show it the right way. Thanks for explaining it well 😀
Thanks Chris ... brilliant vid. I was about to give up on my efforts to re-point my patio when I found you. Simple, but so important tips - particularly how to get the mix just right and how to best use the thin trowel - transformed everything. And by end of play I had a refurbished patio,
Great video mate. Going to get this job done next week. I was reading up on it and I definitely would have added too much water if I didn't watch this video, so thanks!
Thanks Chris for the video, I have been stalling doing my patio jointing because I have already done some really badly. I am going to trust you and do a test run as I have 50 sq. metres to do. Wish you lived round here, I would get you to do it for me....thanks x
Nice video Chris - my only concern is the 4 to 1 mix. This is what I think roofers mix when pointing ridge tiles and it only lasts a few years before it starts to crumble, I would prefer to use a stronger mix - would there be any drawbacks in doing this?
Chris cheers for the video. I'm doing crazy paving ... Do you or anybody else here know if I'd use the same mix or do I need something different. A few of my gaps are a lot bigger than those ones
Hi Chris great video, very useful. I tried this yesterday and for the most part it worked really well, but some parts are breaking up already or don't seem fully dry after 24 hours. What did I do wrong?
BRILLIANT! Thank you very much. I had previously tried this job but with too wet a mix and of course got mortar staining all over the place. Now I've watched your video and have done a much better job....! The wonders of RUclips.
Needs excess mortar swept away from slabs then joint wet lightly with watering can. Then use a old bucket handle to finish pointing joint. Taught by the best old bricklayers for joints.....
Very helpful video Chris. One thing I have heard is that adding some Pva to the water will make the joint even stronger. What are your thoughts on this?
It’s 2018 and I just redid a slate porch using these tips and wow- looks great. I didn’t know about that leveling tool and it made a huge difference. Thanks for the video.
I have used this method a couple of times ie 4 parts sand to 1 part concrete, both times ( over a period of time) the mixture just erodes away, the sand washes away whilst power hosing the slabs, surely it would be better using a far harder mixture ?. Reason I'm asking is I have to re-point yet again this Summer !.
Cheers Chris. Easily one of the most helpful videos I've watched. Just a bit worried I may not have added enough water to the first batch as the second had a slightly better consistency. Should it make much difference?
Hi Chris. What is the diameter / size of your tuck pointer? The workman who put down my patio left only very thin gaps, but they are still enough for weed growth. Great video, really encourages people like me to have a go in the lockdown. :)
Great video and I followed to the letter. Even had a windy day! However the next day the joints were powdery and weak. How long should I give it to harden or does it need more water?

Tip notch video mate, I will be doing exactly this on my back garden tomorrow. Cheers. 😅
That’s given me the confidence to do all ours thanks mate
Mate, I appreciate your detailed explanation!
I tried just using sand but after 2 months some weeds went back. Im gonna follow your steps.
Cheers

I always thought this was a major job ... cracking video Chris, thank you!
The secrets in the mortar and not brushing off too soon....great tips, thanks.
Good consistency. I always use a drier mix that will still pack too. Too wet and it will stain the stone/brick. Very well done.
Cheers Ray 👍
Easy to follow video. I feel confident enough to try to point my brickwork myself. Thanks
My pleasure M'lady :-) Cheers, Chris
Great video thank you, you made it look nice and simple...great attitude you have my friend

Thanks for this. All the advice says not to add water but to water the patio lightly once the job is finished.
Very clear and helpful.

Chris that was great! I've done it before but stained everything now it was so much better and easier!

For joints that tight, I would reccomend using polymetric sand, has worked well on my patio for years.
