The first time I watched fedor was against semmynschilt. And I had seen Sammy many times before and fedor dominated him. I was familiar with herring and just saw fedor once. You don’t know until you know. Herring was tough as nails and fedor is just so damn good.
@@chakko007 If you look closely, Fedor is a biomechanical genius, instead of just throwing a punch, he throws his whole body into the movement, creating greater power. He also has great hips and moves like a middleweight which allows him to avoid danger by getting off the bottom and back to his feet, or moving quickly into submissions. The only problem I think is throwing those power punches makes you over commit too much sometimes which makes the opponent take advantage to counter attack, hence Dan Henderson. Cheers
Fedor's run in Pride was legendary. Can you blame Quadros and Bas for picking Heath to win? Heath was an improving, exciting and cool fighter! "The holland training" was a very real thing! Bas respected that. Heath only lost to Vitor and Nog! He beat Mark Kerr and Igor Vovchanchyn! He was perfectly respectable! You gotta remember, MMA info was still kind of hard to come by in the early-mid 2000s. I guess if you were active on sherdog and were really tuned in, you'd have more knowledge. I relied on sherdog stats and my older brother talking about the next big guy. Maybe he showed Heath Herring's busted up face! That's kind of how you knew who was good. Same thing happened with Cro-Cop. There was a picture of Heath's ribs caving in from a Cro-Cop kick, and it was like "DAAAAAANG!" Heath went down! Shocking to see at the time. Heath took some SERIOUS beatings for the growing sport. He was kind of like Yamcha or Tien, with all due respect! Tough guy, but gets beat by the elites. Next gen Gary Goodridge, Pre Cowboy Cerrone. "fight anyone anytime anywhere." That kind of guy. Tapes were starting to circulate and we tried getting whatever came out. We KNEW about Heath Herring from a bunch of PRIDEFC events, Nog was the man to beat. Fedor only fought Semmy Schilt, which I was under the impression he was more of a K-1 guy. I guess he was just a beast everywhere. I'm sure some older people knew about RINGS, we recognized T.K's name but heard it was a weird DQ! Arona was kind of boring, Babalu wasn't exactly a big name at the time.
Gotta give Heath respect for coming back like that in the last minuted of round 1. Pure will power. I'm sure he would have lost in round 2 anyway though.
This is high level heavyweight mma. Fedor is one of the GOATS. Give Herring credit too. Got the living shit kicked out of him n fought on. Fedor was just insane back then
Pride really, really, really wanted Herring to win this fight. Why was Herring being looked at by the doctors? Because he had some blood on his face? Does anyone see blood or a cut that is obviously interfering with Herring's vision? The ref and doctors are right there, and we just have a camera and you can see at 6:26 there is damage, but his eyes are clear. Pride was just giving Herring a break with the hopes he would win the fight. Their fight fixing instincts were hard to kick. Too bad Fedor was a brutalizing monster at this point.
His fight should have been stopped way earlier, they probably did some tests on Heth and he didn't pass, considering the beat down he was taking, it's not surprising that the fight would end like that.
see 16:22. Heath's eye is COMPLETELY shut, even after that long break and doctors trying to "fix" it. Also, "Pride really wanted Herring to win this fight"? What does that even mean? Do you have anything to back that up? Can you name one fight in pride where a fighter was damaged due to bad call from ref or from bad TKO stoppage? I'm just amazed that you see this as a bad doctor stoppage or something that Pride fixed in favor or Heath. It makes absolutely 0 sense to me.
@@oliverreno4734 I don't get why the ref paused the fight. Heath was beat up sure, but you can see his eyes aren't swollen shut and blood isn't leaking in them. There was no need to pause the fight.
They paused it to see if the cut was too deep. Blood in the eyes isnt the only reason to stop a fight from a cut. A cut being too deep is an equally valid reason and that cut was deep
pride not allowing elbows on the ground is almost as silly as UFC not allowing knees. I can perhaps understand banning stomps do a downed opponents head -- if you want to make a safety rule, that one is perhaps wise, as a fully perfectly landed heavyweight stomp could be horrific. Imagine if Mark Hunt's stomps attempted on wanderlai when he was down had landed as example. But I do wish elbows and knees were allowed always in all positions in MMA -- banning knees to a grounded opponent like ufc does seems to favor wrestlers a ton, doesn't it? Why do that and make your sport less exciting, and less realistic. If knees to grounded opponents were allowed, every shot wrestlers go for would be far more of a gamble, bc if opponents sprawls and captures your head, you're in extreme danger right away. Whereas now, in UFC, there's no consequence except the guy gets to put his weight on you. Also how can they still not have gotten rid of that 12 to 6 elbow rule when every single person in the world knows it's stupid and not real. How is it possible they keep that rule, when everyone knows it's total nonsense that 12 to 6 elbows are dangerous any more so than any other elbow. stupid rules still ruin mma. Pride was the closest to the real thing. And wrestlers had a lot more trouble there than they do in the UFC.
Everything i say seems retarded when i re-read it much later. I regret everything. Who am i, ufc coach spectacular? My past self is a constant crimge for my present self, and somehow i never like myself more. Youd think i learn and change and become less cringe. But perhaps my very nature, my core fabric is composed entirely of cringe.
Both the commentators were so confident that Heath gonna win the fight before it starts.... 1 minute silence for them..

😂
Lol they thought Fedor was his last name and Emilianenko was his first 😂
Odd to see them pick anyone over fedor
They obviously hadn't seen much of Fedor beforehand. Every time I see him fight I'm more impressed
I respect any man who can go 14 minutes with prime Fedor. You just fought the best.
Brock dominated that man
Lol. Of those 14 minutes he was on his back for 13. This was a mismatch...he didn't stand a chance.
@@hungryforlunch Yeah, but Brock couldn't finish him. Heath was not a top fighter overall though, so Brock beating him was no surprise.
@@billj4525his overall record is full of loses to name fighters. Heath was a journeyman at best and thats putting it nice lol

Straight up mauling by Fedor!
Fedor putting Kerring on his ass right after Heath was looked at by the doctor was brutal.

ofc this was his second ever fight in Pride

He "lost" to vitor
Heath had demolished guys in some of those Brazilian Vale Tudo tournaments. He was legit for sure...but Fyodor...other worldly.😮
Why they pick heath herring? Answer is simple. Because herring is american fedor is russian.
Fedor absolutely dominated, outclassed and destroyed him.
And Herring was a beast in his own right!
He could hit Heath's head with his eyes closed. I'm astounded at how accurate Fedor's striking was in this fight.
No disrespect to Heath, but even when he was on top for a brief period his punches seemed like child's play compared to what Fedor delivered to him.
Definitely a mismatch yes.
I forgot about the early Fedor fights. Before everyone knew what a beast he was. I first saw this back when I was in highschool still.
This was the first fight that indicated he was such a beast, and when he destroyed big nog the first time, everyone was terrified.
Heath was a problem back then but Fedor solved it
