Sonnen brought a solid plan into that fight - let Fedor wear himself down by letting him punch him in the face repeatedly. Very solid stuff from Chael. Get punched in the face until Fedor can no longer punch, then IT'S CHAEL TIME!

I know this comment will go to the bottom of the list and never be read more than twice but Chael, I just watched that fight (Dec 2021) and agree with all you said. However I did not pick up that you were rattled after the first 5 sec. That's resilience. In this particular encounter I think you went in a bit quick and wild. You are one of my favourite fighters, along with Lyoto Machida, Roy Nelson, Mirko CroCop and GSP - very intelligent, well spoken, extremely tough (from attacks), no tattoos. As for that fight, it was a good plan, to let him wear himself down a bit, but I don't feel you were wary enough /careful enough of Fedor's incredible unpredictability and power. (Not many have his powerful ability to reverse from bottom to top on the ground). Thanks.

I have to be honest I hate trash talkers, but Chael makes it into an art, love you Chael, I am Russian and I have been following Fedors career since the inception, but I love your character, wit, and most of all your incredible sence of humor, will be subscribed to you forever, watched your fight with Fedor and the thought in my head was, man I wish I can see you both go at at your primes, that fight would be the fight of the ages, much love from Latvia you loveble American gangster!!!!

All those punches Fedor landed and Chael just had a drop of blood going down his eyebrow. Chael kept pushing forward the whole time and fought like a champ. Anyone "teasing" Chael about the fight would have gotten knocked the fuck out after the 1st bomb Fedor landed.

Hey Chael! I don't know if you ever read the comments, but if you do, I want you to know that even though I am Russian myself and a great fan of Fedor, I am grateful to this tournament for getting to know you. I have watched lots of your podcasts and can tell that you are a very smart and cool man. I think you deserve a decent management position in Bellator or UFC. And... you said you hadn't seen the punches coming. That's because they came during your own attacks and human's brain is arranged so that we cannot control two actions simultaneously, I.e. when we attack, we cannot defend ourselves. But it's just details. Anyway, I'm wishing you all the best, man!

Honestly except for the double leg take down the entire fight looked like a man fighting a boy.He was throwing you all over the place. It looked like he figured he's not even going to try to box you but instead will just try to waylay you with one good punch. And looking at Emelianenko it appeared he either didn't really didn't even want to be there or his best years were definitely behind him and it was showing.

Very honest recap. I think fedor is just super intelligent. His hands were down because he knows you were going to shoot non stop and he was throwing a sort of lead cross/uppercut that was catching you time and again as your head dropped for the take down. It needed no wind up and its impossible to telegraph. Your downward momentum along with forward drive meant you were applying the force for him, he just needed to tense up and give a little mini uppercut and it worked absolutely brilliantly. His game plan was spot on however chaels also correct fedor was gassing big time towards the end. I felt chael was starting to get the better of the grappling towards the end and if he made it to late in the 2nd i think fedor would have been gassed. But chael knew it was getting stopped so i still think he gave up

Chael : “ I can win this fight but I’m gonna just survive. I felt he got fatigue, he was breathing hard, he punched me 22 times straight, the ref warn me to move, but he didn’t see me move, then I just remember Fedor stop fighting because he was to tired. So I spoke Russian to him, to let’s keep fighting, but he was just out of shape. That’s my story”

very professional breakdown. I watched the fight and also thought that the stoppage was a bit quick as the majority of the punches were being blocked. Great protection of the melon ! However I would much rather see a quick stoppage over a late one. one of those nights , Brother. Call it a wrap go have dinner and put it in your rear view mirror.
