wait I LOVE THIS!! at first i was feeling as if she's this super cool girl that everyone likes, she's funny and extraverted, and we're just in the back looking at her have a good time, laugh, eat, do her makeup. she seems so careless and we sort of envy her, just sitting and observing her without being able to be part of the conversation. but when the drawing with makeup started i realized that she is also probably just pretending to be this way. well this is only my interpretation, cause i've had that happen in real life and this was so accurate to that!

This was so well executed!! The overall feeling of being in the back, looking at the "cool girl" in the driver seat. You think shes so effortlesly cool and secure in just being herself, but then if you really look, you start noticing all these little things indicating she's not being geniue, but rather trying to impress someone. The little hand thing thing at 2:53, when she goes to subtly touch his hand, and him pulling it away, but she's pretending nothing happened, masking it with just dancing and bobbing to the music so no one will see the rejection. Also the look at the person in the divers seat at 3:12 to check their reaction, really shows how its all an act to impress him, and not being her geniue self at all. Very very well done, at first glance its just the pretty girl you envy, but then its so much more layered when you look again.

i just had the nicest experience watching this while slumped over my kitchen table after a long day, just finished eating dinner and doing homework. i hear my mom in the other room working at her desk and my dog is napping on the floor just out of my eyesight while my brother rests after work in his bed down the hall. i sing quietly and watch this whimsical little lyric video and have such a nostalgic feeling that i snapshot this memory to think about years in the future when i think back about spring 2021. xoxo dodie i love u thank u for being apart of my little memory

This video is so perfect for the song wow it’s the whole I’ll do ANYTHING to be different than them part
as everyones already said, we're watching a cool girl - in awe of her - but when it starts to get weird at 1:56 we realise she's just doing what she thinks she has to, whats wanted of her; be be pretty and quiet and cool. e.g sit down and shut up and do what you're told. she keeps repeatedly eating and putting on her makeup because she thinks she this what is wanted of her, but its not what she wants and its not making her happy which you can see beautifully in dodies expressions. her makeup gets messy and weird as the character gets confused and her brain gets muddled up between changing herself to fit her love interest's wants, and being happy. when she eats the lipstick at 2:45 and looks at the driver, it's her trying anything to please him, is this what you want? even if it hurts me? she keeps letting things slide and being pushed around to be the girl he wants when its deeply affecting her.
She smiled like Dodie did as a kid at the end. I love her so much.
The whole video is beautiful, but honestly 1:55 is the most relatable

this is really excellent. i really relate to this (or at least my interpretation of it) - you construct yourself to become this 'cool', unattainable, distant, perfect person - nobody else can reach you. but when you start to slowly unravel; because you cant gain the approval of either yourself or somebody else, all everyone else can do is watch (the pov of the camera?) as you're just a source of entertainment to them. not sure. either way, you did an excellent job with this, jack and dodie!!!!!!
