Also, anyone else notice how dodes doesn't hesitate with the cake here? Where as before in say, in the middle, she had a beautiful monologue describing the worries of cakes at special events? I feel that's a huge metaphor for moving forward and getting better, and im so fucking proud.
She's playing up against the critics. From what I've read from the people that don't like her they thinks she's a childish bratty idiot who just wants praise. So she's kinda showing how stupid that is by playing on it
Ok new theory: this video reminds me of the glasses advert she did with Evan. Maybe because it's her 10yr anniversary on RUclips, all the videos for her album are an Hommage to old videos. Like the video I hate myself is maybe reminiscent of human video?
this song and video have such a specific feel to them. they encapsulate this feeling of sassy, confident, kid like behaviour in such an accurate way. and the car wash just adds to the feeling of being a kid. i feel like this is going to be a favourite of mine!
The outro with the repetitive, overlapping singing, instruments and laughter has such a frantic, exuberant, almost manic energy it captures the feeling of being young and utterly self-assured so well! Big main character vibes
OH MY GOD DODIE! the SERATONIN THIS GAVE ME! I haven't stopped happy stimming! Especially at the confetti part! Omg. This video shows so much charisma and sass and slight cockiness and just, absolute genius in a car wash, all the glasses, the party rings, its so fuckin British and so BEAUTIFUL I LOVE YOU SM!!
@@isabelberger9441 yeah that’s what’s i was thinking! specifically the line “and don’t say it’s genetics”, bc i always took that to mean “don’t say it’s something inherent about you/me”
I would pay a ridiculous amount for any of those sunglasses.. Also, loooove the hair movements mimicking the car wash movements at 2:56 and towards the end
I honestly can’t tell you how relatable this is to me. From the first line of the song, to the red heart glasses, to the long hair in pigtails, to the star stickers on the face, to the confetti, to the sprinkles cake... (even treating going through the car wash like a special event lol) these are ALL things I’ve done before/do on a regular basis. It’s like they had a camera on my life... 👀
I love the message behind this one. It kind of feels like commentary on how toxic being the person standing out can feel, while also somewhat attempting to reclaim the status you've achieved as a positive thing. As i'm trying to write this comment i'm just discovering so many avenues of interpretation and i love how complex the potential perspectives on this song are.
This song is the Blank Space of Build A Problem - the lyrics are likely very true to Dodie’s experiences. The attitude she puts on in this lyric video, the sassy, sexy confidence, makes me think of how Taylor Swift wrote Blank Space to be an over-exaggeration of the stereotypes people think she fits into, so maybe; this is Dodie fully owning the fact that her partners may not understand her due to childhood trauma and being made to be a “special girl time and time again,” and trying to make fun of it, even though underneath it’s painful? I don’t know - this is my interpretation, and I could very well be wrong, so take this with a grain of salt.
The car wash that special girl dodie went through probably intentionally ballooned their prices because they were jealous of all of those variously colored balloons in her car.
This is one of my favorite songs in the album, so I’m watching this video first! I have never had so many good videos to watch in one day. “sorry i just know the way that I am...”
The best music video in this collection. The slowed-down visual but still in time with the audio is ethereal and really just incredible. Well done Jack!
@doddleoddle oh my god dod I have been a fan for 7 years now and this is my favorite song you've ever put out. like the lyrics??? the SOUND???? the "oh well"???? THIS VIDEO????!?!?? but most importantly that line at 2:01 😭 literally I lost my mind alone in my car at that moment and just felt so proud of how far you've come!!! 💖 it also made me desperate for a haim x dodie collab for some reason
I’m so grateful that I had someone to look up to like Dodie when I was just beginning to find who I could be. I feel like she knows me. As an artist I know how creating art from your life looks and listening/watching these conceptualizes a lot of things I feel and seeing her create her it in a way thats sooo her own and so fucking well is something I deeply dream about and am beyond impressed with. I’m just so proud of her and us and can’t wait to see what she makes in the future.
The first time I heard this I didn’t like it very much but over time it has grown on me so much to the point where it’s my favorite song on the album. I feel incredibly confident and spunky any time I listen to it and the vibes are AMAZING. Keep it up dodie!
Yesterday I was almost overdosing on benzos, and this album was playing, I don't remember much of any song but this line stuck with me "Twenty four, I still count everyone I kiss", it seems so sweet, like somehow the teen girl in her is Alive
Oh my god I love all these videos so much! Its so clear how much love and passion went into this album and everything surrounding it!!! I'm just grateful I can experience it!!!!!
damn when dodie said 'put me in a car' they really listened
Hahahahah yeeees

You guys' friendship is 💯🥺
Aww, hi Orla. Hope you're having a nice day.
I love how smug and confident and sassy she looks in this one
Same, the confidence is OH SO ATTRACTIVE
Stevie really said "I love cocky dodie." And dodie said "say no more."
Also, anyone else notice how dodes doesn't hesitate with the cake here? Where as before in say, in the middle, she had a beautiful monologue describing the worries of cakes at special events? I feel that's a huge metaphor for moving forward and getting better, and im so fucking proud.
RIGHT I love it so so much
OMGGGG i hadn't thought about that!!
I DIDNT THINK OF THAT I LOVE THAT SO MUCH
YESSS
And this is why i read the comments
The imagination of dodie having to record this with the song playing like 2x faster in real time to record this in slow-motion is ✨pure serotonin✨
If you change the video speed to x1.75 you can see about how fast she had to have the song!
My thoughts the whole time 🤣
@@niamhkelly6859 OMG thats faaaast 😱
Only thing I could think about, I’m so impressed with this performance!
They do this in tonnes of videos guys haha☺️ it’s a v common thing in the music world xx
only dodie could go through a car wash and make a music video this good PLEASE

hot intimidating Dodie is not an energy i was ready for, but I'm 100% here for it.
WONDERFUL! Party Bus! (Also v clean on outside party bus!) xxx
dont be shy, release the non slowed down version🥺
you can see how it looks without being slowed down if you put it at 1.5x speed
@@basil116 actually 1.5 is still slow, I think its 2x or 1.75x
Bahaha ok
@@doddleoddle 👀 omg

1:17 the way she looks at the car wash thingy my god
Oof!
find someone who looks at you the way dodie looks at a "car wash thingy"
anyone else get the vibe this paints dodie as a villain in her own song?
omg yes! she almost seems like a bratty child at a birthday party!!!
@@thebookgoddess7380 villain arc tbh

Yes, absolutely!
i love that this song is so ironic. she's literally throwing herself a pity party in a car wash
Dodie’s storytelling abilities are truly a major part of what makes her songs unlike anything I’ve ever listened to before
2:16 I absolutely love the little "waah" in the background
I love how this whole album takes place in a car/cab ✨
Ok new theory: this video reminds me of the glasses advert she did with Evan. Maybe because it's her 10yr anniversary on RUclips, all the videos for her album are an Hommage to old videos. Like the video I hate myself is maybe reminiscent of human video?
Wait that's actually such a good theory-
Yessss she’s wearing the same stars on her face in the Evan vid as well
I think this one is my favourite!!
"heartbreak only means that it was worth it" damn thats genius

Ok I love all these filmed-in-a-car lyric videos but this one is DEFINITELY my favorite. So sassy in combination with the lyrics.
"you blew me up like a big balloon far too soon, i'm left a stuttering teen"
I really hope that you watched this back and fell in love with yourself the way the rest of us did
I would pay a ridiculous amount for any of those sunglasses.. Also, loooove the hair movements mimicking the car wash movements at 2:56 and towards the end
jack: how many sunglasses do you want?
dodie: yes
Omg the connection between all these is amazing
love Jack's little cameos in the reflective sunglasses
The Joni Mitchell influnece in this song is PALPABLE and I LOVE it!
adding this song into my “these songs give me too much confidence” playlist. i feel so suave listening to it
ok Sorry is a masterpiece but this is such a BOP
thought I couldn't love this video more and then she threw that peace sign at the end LMAO I love it

oh i just ADORE how this was recorded faster and then slowed down!! it works so well, I love how her hair moves and the balloons look so suspended :)
You can just see how much fun dodie had filming this 😂 so wholesome
The vibes emanating from this video are uncomfortably confident
1:04 that sorry sounds good!
I just came from Orla's "You're not special, babe" to this and I am spinning.
omg all of these are perfect omg
Omg the outside of the car being washed while inside Dodie makes it more and more messy XD I love it!
I never used to understand what it meant when people said: "That's a mood." Thank you for clearing that up for me Dodie.
This song is so experimental and fun. Of course I love a dodie sad bob but it’s so good seeing this versatility. Queen!!! ❤️❤️❤️
Thank you dodie for this visual representation of how a manic episode feels 🎈😎🎈
Omg the clarinet in this song is literally the best
Was anyone else worried she wouldn't have time to finish her bite of that first cookie before having to sing again?

She looks like she is having so much fun, though maybe that's just for the video. Either way its nice to see her happy!
would happily listen to the sweet sweet irony part on repeat until I die
This is my new favorite dodie song! The percussion is just sublime!!
this is the most enneagram 4 song and music video, i adore it

The car wash that special girl dodie went through probably intentionally ballooned their prices because they were jealous of all of those variously colored balloons in her car.
Nah, they were just satly she didnt share her cake. She deserves 1 all to herself anyways.
I am just so in love with everything about this album and these videos and dodie and her music and her writing ugh
The SASS level in this is insane
every time i feel a wave of self hatred or criticism coming on, this song plays in my mind. and suddenly, i feel more proud to be myself.
2 years... Dodie it’s been 2 years since you showed us a preview of this song and I waited this whole time and now I am finally at peace
this is just the right amount of chaos, i love it
oh my god this one is totally my favourite on the album, it’s INCREDIBLE
lol just noticed she doesn't mouth "lullabies" in the third line, looks like she say "lulla-vies". I like it.
2:06 the cookie snap lines up with the guitar percussion!!
